Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The Jakes Awesome (and rainy) Trip!

OK, I think I'm ready to try my first trip report. I'm new to these boards so be gentle!! We just got back from WDW and had a wonderful time. Like everyone else that traveled in June, it rained A LOT, but that didn't dampen the Disney magic that was everywhere!
The Cast:
Vicki - 47 (vocal teacher)
Jake - 49 (speech and drama teacher)
Tori - turned 12 at WDW!
The Dates - June 15 - 26
The Place - Port Orleans/French Quarter

Day 1 - off and running
Our scheduled flight time out of the Quad Cities Airport was 5:10 p.m., but we just couldn't wait that long to get to Florida, so we decided to try flying stand-by at 6:00 a.m. We showed up at the airport about an an hour and a half early (makes for a short night!) and had no problem getting three seats aboard AirTran to Orlando. The connections were wonderful and we arrived with no problems in Orlando at 11:03. a.m. WDW here we come!!
One of our favorite before-we check-in things to do is go have lunch somewhere "Disney" to tell ourselves that we are really here. We didn't need to get our tickets ( annual passholders) so, we headed to Animal Kingdom for food at the Tusker House. AK has the best park-food in all of WDW. It rained hard on the way over, but seemed to clear up when we entered the park. After lunch it was time to check-in at the Port. We have stayed there several times--I really like the intimacy of this resort. One of my favorite things is to rent a bike-surrey and ride over to Riverside and back, or just take walk along the river. Such a pretty resort!

I had read up in my Passporter about faxing special requests and you all had great advice! The fax to the room coordinator worked like a charm and we got the building (#3) and the room that we wanted.(Room 3232-right on the corner as you walk out of the lobby) It was only 90 steps to the foodcourt, swimming pool and gift shop! (we counted them one night in the rain) Everything was perfect! Well, ok, the rain started again after we got unpacked and stayed with us all evening. We ran and got some take-out Chinese and headed to bed, ready to hit the parks tomorrow!

Day 2 - the Jakes do all 4 parks!
A fellow teacher friend was in the area and we arranged to meet her, her daughter and husband to take a whirlwind tour of WDW. Barb (our friend) and Laura (DD) had been to the parks many years before, but Chad (Laura's DH) had never seen anything. We decided to hit the biggest and best Disney had to offer until the parks closed. Woooo Hooo! We had breakfast at the Tonga Cafe at the Poly. I had heard so much about Tonga Toast from these boards that I couldn't wait to try it. WOW--what a yummy breakfast treat!
First up--Magic Kingdom. We headed to City Hall to get Laura a birthday button as she was turning 27 today. Cast members greeted her all day and really made things special for her. We were experts at the Fast Pass and were able to hit all the mountains before noon. The crowds really weren't bad, but it was Sunday and Father's Day. Then, as we headed toward the Haunted Mansion one of the cast members spotted her birthday button and porceeded to lead everyone within earshot in the singing of "Happy Birthday!" Very fun! After the Haunted Mansion, the rain started again so we ducked into Columbia Harbour House for a quick lunch. We love sitting upstairs and looking out at everyone. Great food--even if we were a little wet! Off to the Animal Kingdom to see if we could hit the 2:30 Lion King show!
Animal Kingdom felt more crowded than MK, but I was determined to get to the Lion King so we power-walked our way directly to Camp Minnie-Mickey. We did not "pass go" and we did not "collect $200." and walked into the theatre just as the show was about to start. This show moves me everytime I see it--the ending is absolutely wonderful. The singing is phenominal and we get all sorts of theatrical ideas to take back home. I t's always fun to watch the faces of friends as they see this show for the first time. All three have been involved in music and theatre and loved it as much as we do. As we were headed to "It's Tough To Be A Bug" the Jammin Jungle Parade was crossing in front of us. What a fun, upbeat, parade! You can't help but start dancing and moving to the great music! We were singing the songs all the way to MGM. We had ressies at the Prime Time Cafe at 6:30, so it was time to move on to park #3. There were so many other things we wanted to do at AK, but time was not on our side. They are just going to have to come back again!
We really don't do Disney this way, but we wanted them to at least get a taste of every park. So. now that I've worn you out reading this, I'll continue tomorrow!
