Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: WooHoo! Wonderful (but wet) Trip!!

Thank you so much for the interest. I really appreciate it. Sorry for the delay in the conclusion of my story. The sudden tragic death of my parents' 5 year old Great Pyrenees in the vet's office has taken away some of the magic. I will finish the report in hopes that recalling the magic will help me get through this. Sorry. Thanks.

Sue

Sue sorry for you and your parents on the dog's death. We had to have our cat put to sleep, she was 21 and our dog at 17. Even though it had to be it was really hard. I can imagine not expecting it would really be awful. Sending prayers and pixie dust to you and your parents.

Re: WooHoo! Wonderful (but wet) Trip!!

Finally, the concluding chapter!

Friday June 21

We put off MGM Studios for last in the hopes that the rain might break and we could possibly see Fantasmic. As soon as we got into the park, we marched right up to Guest Services and made ressies for the dinner-Fantasmic show. I wanted 50’s, but that is not one of the restaurants included, so we settled for Mama Melrose for 5:30. Then off we went on our last park’s journey. Our intention was to grab a FP for Star Tours, but they weren’t giving any out that day, BUT we were able to walk right on the ride!! Next, we walked back to try The Great Movie Ride. I like that one! Again, we were able to walk right on it, too!! WOW, this was too easy! OK, so then we pick up a FP for Millionaire and walk on down to BackLot Tour. We got right in line and got stopped at the front of the line (oh well, can’t just walk on everything! LOL). A CM came over and asked us if we wanted to be in the demo. DH wanted to, bad, but I didn’t. I remember from back in ‘96 that it contained water and lots of it. I had enough of water at this time. Oh, BTW, did I mention that it was raining on and off again? Or need I mention that fact at all? After a short wait, we saw what would have happened (Pearl Harbor) and I’m really glad I didn’t participate!!! Don’t want to give it away, but it was hilarious. Our demo people were very entertaining. If I had volunteered, I would have used my umbrella! As soon as the Tour ended, it was time for Millionaire. I couldn’t believe we were getting into the attractions so easily. See, there is some advantage to a week’s worth of rain, the crowds stayed away!! At this point, I was wondering if we’d run out of things to do before Fantasmic (if the rain would stop!) Afterwards, we got our pictures taken in the Castle scene. I asked if they had one with rain instead of sunshine, but she said no and maybe they should look into getting one. HAH! We couldn’t just walk on Little Mermaid, so we picked up a FP. It wasn’t a long wait, so we went to visit Walt Disney One Man’s Dream. I enjoyed it very much. I learned a little about Walt Disney that I never knew before. OK, on to Little Mermaid. This was really cute and I liked it except for the fact that I was already wet and a little chilled from the rain…need I say more? We checked the times for Beauty and the Beast and found that we could get in a little shopping before the show. I did pick up a few items and had them sent to be held at the front gate. I find this a very good option. It sure does beat carrying it around all day (not to mention keeping it dry from the rain.). Beauty and the Beast was beautiful. I was disappointed that I would not be able to see Hunchback because they were dark that day. We went past Tower of Terror…..We have been having this discussion on how we want to go on this ride, but we both have bad backs. DH really wanted to go on ToT, but I was so afraid our backs couldn’t take it. Question: When you hit bottom, is it a gentle stop or an abrupt stop? I really didn’t need compressed discs to end our vacation! So, again, we did not ride ToT. Was this a mistake? Last on our list before Mama Melrose was Muppets 3-D. We walked right into this, too. Well! Now it’s suppertime. I had the 4-cheese flatbread (pizza) and DH had some shrimp pasta dish. Granted, the pizza was not like we have here in Chicago, but it was different and tasty, too! After dinner, it was still raining, so we continued shopping. Finally, the rain stopped and the sun actually came out! We moseyed on down to Fantasmic at about 8:15 and went in the “secret entrance”. The sky still looked iffy, but it was not raining. We had ours fingers crossed because this would be our last chance at seeing Fantasmic. There was a 10:30 show that night, too. WooHoo!! It did not rain and the show went on. It was great, well worth waiting for!! We really were lucky to see it! What a wonderful ending to a fun trip. After it ended, we returned to CSR.

Re: WooHoo! Wonderful (but wet) Trip!!

Saturday June 22

Sadly, today was our last day at the Magical WDW. How fitting that we woke up to thunderstorms!!! We packed and went to breakfast at Pepper Market. Since we didn’t get very many pictures because of the rain, we hoped that the sun would come out this morning. It finally did. We were able to get pictures around CSR. It really is a beautiful place. The Mears bus picked us up at 1:15 and we sorrowfully waved good-bye to WDW. At the airport, our plane was delayed because the plane before us could not land because of the (you guessed it) rainstorm. We finally took off and arrived home a little late. I’ve already started planning our next trip for 2004!!

Just a few thoughts on our wonderful, but wet trip:

Even though it rained, we still had a good time. If you can’t change something, then deal with it.

I like being there with lesser crowds.

I like walking onto the attractions.

I like leaving the kids at home.

I still feel the MAGIC of Walt Disney World.

Thanks so much for listening to my story. It helped to live out the Magic a little longer. I can’t wait to read everyone else’s reports!

Sue
