Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Smile 1st time cruiser

Hello fellow Disneyheads! I am planning my first Disney Cruise for next year. I am not sure how many days I want to cruise, but I do know that I want to do a Caribbean Cruise or a Meditteranean Cruise. I will be a single traveler and I know that I will have to pay the supplement , but I am willing to since I wanted to do my first cruise by myself . I am thinking about cruising either in June, July, or December 2010. If anyone has any special pointers or suggestions, please send them this way!

Well, you won't be able to do a Caribbean cruise in June or July. There are no 7 nights available. You would only be able to do a Bahamas cruise - 3, 4, or 5 night, since the Magic will be in Europe for the summer.

I went on my first cruise a last month and had a blast!! Of course I did not do it solo, I just could not afford doing it solo.

A shorter cruise may help if you don't know if you would become seasick or not. But What I did is I took Dramamine 2 and had no problems. My original plan was to just take it for a few days, but ended up taking it the whole week. I figured I already purchased it, so may as well keep taking it lol. I did do the 7 day as I felt for me the 4 night would go too fast.

In my opinion the 3 night would be way too short.

As for what time, June and July are during hurrricane season, though I would not let that stop you. Cruise ships are very aware of the weather and what is going on weather wise in the area and are good at avoiding storms. You may have to skip an island or change the itinerary around though. December would be nice with the holiday season and all. I heard the decorations for the season are very nice.

I took my first cruise on a 4 night last December solo (kind of). It helped that that was the Mousefest cruise. I had a fantastic time, and it seemed too short.

You'll find lots of tips on this board...but I can't stress getting the Passporter guide enough. It helped me immensely!

I'm going in December 2010 on an Eastern Caribbean cruise. If you choose this one, jump on our meet thread.

Here's my trip report to give you an idea of the fun!

Forgot there are no 7 night in June or July, so yeah, you would have to do the 3,4 or 5 night.

Thanks for the information. I have not looked at the Disney Cruiseline website yet. I knew I should check here first to get an unbiased opinion. I think that the 4 or 5 day cruise sounds great. Maybe I will go in December once hurricane season is over.

Thanks for the tips. I will purchase a Passporter's guide to cruises. Decided last week that I wanted to cruise. Now I need to research.

I would also suggest the 4 night. A general trend of thought is that a 3 night is ideal way to try it out- however, my experience and those of others that I know- that on a Disney Cruise, you often disembark thinking the 3 night wasn't long enough- which is why I would suggest the 4 night.

Please also consider travel documentation requirements- if you don't already have a passport- I suggest getting one as soon as you are able.

A good working budget as you begin your planning is also a good idea. Be sure to consider within the budget the extras- things that are not included- alcoholic beverages, shore excursions, etc.

Planning is half the fun! The Passporter DCL forums have lots of experienced cruisers to help you "navigate" your way onboard. You'll have an amazing time!

Just a heads up, since your dates don't seem to be locked in. The best deal price-wise I found to travel as a single is for the Westbound Transatlantic cruise in September 2010. Including DCL air and transfers you can do a cat 9 for just under $3000, which I thought was dirt cheap for a 14 night cruise. It may be too long for a first-time cruiser, but it's inexpensive enough that I wanted to mention it.

I think that I will try a four day cruise first and see how that goes. I might not be a single cruiser anymore because my best friend wants to go with me and bring her children along. I think that will be great since I will not have to pay a single fee.

We just got back from our first cruise. We did the 4 nights and it was great for a first timer to try things out. We did had so much fun that we booked a 7 nights for 2010. You will have lots of fun. Happy cruisin!

You'll love cruising with Disney. As others have said, the PassPorter for the Disney Cruise Line will be invaluable to you as you plan.

I agree that a 3-nighter is too short. Just when you get settled, you would have to re-pack to head home. Can't really experience the serenity and beauty of the cruise ship in such short time.

First time cruiser going for 14 days, transatlantic? Not a good choice. The Caribbean cruise will give you the opportunity to understand how your body will react to the motion. If you like motion rides at amusement parks, then just bring the Dramamine/Bonine along. If you don't like motion rides, then start taking it the day before you leave for the cruise.

Mickey never disappoints.....you will have fun and be ready to re-book!
