Dining reviews Just got back one week ago - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Pepper market at CSR- one word to describe this is expensive. We ate here the very first day that we arrived since I had not made an adr for anything. Two of us had the chicken fajitas which were okay. Our kids had chicken strips, with chips and juice. One roasted chicken and a burger with fries. This meal was over two hundred dollars.
That's ridiculous!!!
We ate a PM a few years ago and loved it and I thought it was actually a pretty good value using the dining plan. But to be charged over $200 is a crime! Obviously not a good deal to pay OOP.
Thanks for sharing your reviews - I enjoyed reading them

I was inspired to respond by this one though:

Holy smokes!! I just went to look at the menu on All Ears, and that is awful! We stayed at CBR last time, so I did a comparison, and their most expensive CS entree is 9.99...I'd be hard pressed to find anything less than $10 at PM. Plus those are the most expensive CS kids' meals I've seen; often the TS kids' meals are less. Wow. Who'd'a thunk it?
Thanks again for taking the time to do the reviews.

Hoping to book for February 2011 to check out Hogwart's
I stayed at CSR back in 2003 and ate at the PM many times. Although, never for dinner. It was always breakfast everyday and a couple of times for lunch. Alway table service for dinner. I like to go to good places for dinner. I don't remember the PM being that expensive. Although, not cheap. That's ridiculous. Maybe you were overcharged on items or some doubled. Might want to check your receipts if you still have them. Somethings not right!

Hey maybe your right but We paid cash on that day and didn't even question it. We had just arrived and were very tired. I remember my husband also getting a desert. It is was it is. Funny cause we were verycareful to check all our meals especially to see if gratuity was included before we added a tip. I guess traveling with two kids all day got the best of us. I agree with you though something is not right with the price. just so everyone knows I loved CSR and would being going back again but next time watch my pepper market receipt closely

If you were on a dining plan of any kind then the tip is included. Since it's counter service, I believe 10% is added on to the cost before sales tax. Always figure out the tip based on the cost before sales tax, when paying cash. You can do it on the total cost when paying by credit card, but you don't have too. It's up to you. On the receipts now, Disney includes suggested tipping, based on 18 or 20% in table service restaurants and lounges too before sales tax.

So how many of you in your family ate at the overly expensive meal at the Pepper Market? Hopefully, we can try to make some sense of this?

Thanks for your reviews! I have booked Tony's for our upcoming 'free dining' trip in august. My goal was to see the parade and fireworks after dinner. I am glad to hear it was not horrible and that the kids liked the atmosphere.
Anita Answer had a great "Answer" for the reason why the Pepper market at CSR is soo expensive. Take a look:
My sister and I recently stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort and ate daily at the Pepper Market. We noticed from visiting the different moderate resorts that the prices at the Pepper Market were always $2 to $3 more and that was before the 10% gratuity was added. We checked out the prices when we got home on the AllEars.Net web site and noticed the same thing. Why is this?
First, it's located in the only moderate resort that caters to conventioneers. They're a captive audience, as they're busy at meetings in the hotel rather than visiting the rest of WDW.
Second, the restaurant isn't run by Disney like the other food courts are. Pepper Market, along with the six other food and beverage outlets at Coronado Springs, plus all convention food and beverage services at the resort, are owned and run by Springs Food Services. Springs Food Services is part of Palmas Services, which also owns and runs the San Angel Inn and Cantina de San Angel in Epcot's Mexico pavilion.
That's quite interesting regarding the prices at PM. I found them a bit pricey when I stayed there 6 years ago, but not overwhelming. Maybe they've gone up more in regard to other eateries in WDW during this time. Didn't know it was run by an outside company.

Thanks for all you wonderful reviews. We have never eaten with the princesses before because my boys are afraid of "princess cooties" however on our next trip my niece is going with us so I am trying to sneak in one on this trip. I enjoyed reading your reviews of CRT & Akershus. My boys will be 4 & 5 yrs old on the next trip, did your son prefer one of these over the other?

My ds has a little sister so has seen many, many princesses. Actually, he was quite star-struck at lunch at Akershus, and the princesses made a big deal over him. He also liked CRT, the wishing ceremony and the sword keep it interesting for boys. (They're still giving out the swords I think?) I have a wonderful pic of ds in one of the "thrones" in the waiting area/entry at Akershus, which is more rough mideval-ish castle-y, than the fancified Cindy's castle. For boys, I'd say, 6 of one, half-dozen of the other...whichever suits your plans/tastes better.
