As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). How difficult is it to get seating at CP without doing the package? Would like to see it, but not planning on eating at the restaurants listed from last year. TIA.
From what I've read its not that hard as long as you get in line VERY early. I read someplace that you might even want to get in line 1-2 hours before.
Make sure you line up early. Granted, we went two years ago, but the theatre was packed and not all stand by's made it into the show we attended. I really liked the show. It puts you right into the Christmas spirit!
Last year we walked by over 2 hours before the first showing and people were in the standby line already. Even in the CP dining package line, people were there an hour (or more) early. We got there a half hour early and we were waiting in front of the Morocco building (and we weren't the last people in line either). I'm not sure how long the standby line was when they finally starting allowing us to enter.
I have to say I disagree -- it can be quite difficult to do standby for seating at the CP. Even with the package, you need to be standing in the "package" line about 45 minutes before the show or risk getting a seat way in the back or on one of the sides.
I've seen people who stood in the stand-by queue for more than 2 hours and still didn't get into the theatre -- and this was during the first two weeks of December, not even close to the Christmas crowds.
The CP is very popular with locals and the weekends are far busier than week nights. However, I'd still recommend the package -- or be willing to walk up and find a spot outside the theatre during the show to just enjoy the music. You can hear very well without having to wait in the long line.

I think it's very hard as well. The lines I've seen for standby are horrendous and we've seen long lines two hours before the show. I would really go for the package if you want to be guaranteed of seeing it.
I agree with some of the others. Its quite hard to get seating doing standby. On our trip last Christmas we were at Epcot on Christmas Day and walked passed the theatre around noon that day and someone was already there waiting in the standby line. That theatre can and does fill up fast.
I agree, those stand by lines tend to get long really fast! both times we have been in the past two years we saw people in the lines up to 2 hours in advance, we got in the package line about 1 hour in advance and were pretty far back at that time and we HAD the package! 2 years ago it was absolutely POURING rain and yet we were not in front at the 1 hour and 15 minute mark for the package line and the stand by line was very long already!
If this is a must do for you, then I really suggest that you do the package and find a place you are willing to eat at to guarantee you a seat cause it is spectacular and nothing I mean nothing is like it anywhere else! It is so awe inspiring, of course you could stand outside and hear the music and narration but it is so special inside the theater suroounded by the spirit of Christmas!
