As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Married couples
We dated 3 months. We spent very little on the wedding because we called our parents and told them we were getting married the next Friday. I rented a kneeling bench and bought her a bouquet. He mother made her a veil. She wore a dress she already had and a pair of shoes I sold her (I worked in a shoe store) before we started dating.
Cost of wedding must not mean much to longivity of marriage....next April will be 40 years.

Re: Married couples
engaged 9 months(had to wait to get married till I turned 18!LOL!!)
Wedding cost 7,000. Big discounts because church was free(my church I grew up in) and had reception on the base, so it was cheaper...
Has lasted 15 years, so I guess it was a good investment!LOL!!
I got my dress on clearance too. 100.00. The veil was actually more than the ddress!@!

Re: Married couples
Hmmm, the first time I was engaged it was for three years before I called it off. I had gotten my dress on sale for $99. Our bridal shop in town was going out of business. Originally it was $1800. I gave it to a childhood girlfriend who had like no money when she was getting married. I wanted nothing to do with it after I broke up with the guy.
The second (and much better) time I was engaged, we dated for 1 month and were engaged for 9 months. The whole wedding including dress, food, cake, decorations, etc. was around $4000. My folks paid for nothing and DH's folks paid for the food at the reception, about $1500 for 350+ guests.

Re: Married couples
I forgot to add cost! And it's my favorite part!
I honestly don't think our wedding cost more than $1500 to $2000...and it was HUGE (500 guests)!
*We bought my dress on sale: $300
*The church was free (and gorgeous)
*We had the reception in the new banquet hall at the camp I grew up in
*All our flowers were given as a gift (and there were TONS of flowers!)
*Our limo was a gift
*The FOUNTAIN at our reception was loaned to us
*Rehearsal dinner was a gift and it was held at my church so that was either free or inexpensive
*People volunteered to provide much of the food at the reception
*I made my own cake (I do that as a hobby)
*Jason's tux was a gift from the same lady that did our flowers
*My best friend is a photographer and he did all of our pics
*My roommate was our pianist, in exchange for the wedding cake I'd done for her two weeks before
*Our musicians (and I was sooo picky about music: had to have or be in pursuit of a music degree...I didn't want my guests to suffer!)were friends
*We rented a massive arch thingy for $150
Hmmm...I think that's all...and the funny thing was, no one asked for any of this and none of these people who gave things or services knew each other! It was truly a blessing...I think for all the wonderful things my parents have done for people in the past!
My dad's brother said something kind of snotty about having such a big wedding and going into debt. Daddy just smiled and told him the truth!

Re: Married couples
We were engaged for 11 months and the wedding cost around $20,000-25,000. It was worth it because we both really enjoyed the entire day and I felt like a princess.

Re: Married couples
DH and I dated for about a month before I asked him to marry me. We were at a tatoo party at his boss's house when I popped the question. DH was hospitalized the following day for emergency gall bladder surgery. We got married about 13 months later. I didn't want to take any chances that he'd think I was bad luck and head for the hills!
The cost was minimal. I have a list much like Lanie's.
- Cake - a gift made by my Aunt Verlo (Ruth).
- Photos - a gift from my Aunt Tandra.
- Dress - a gift made by my mother.
- Flowers - got a friend's employee discount at A.C. Moore for all-silk flowers, who then arranged them as a gift to us. $200
- No limo - DH and I preferred his truck as our getaway car.
- Reception for 100 guests - a gift from my dad. $800
- Food provided at cost as a gift from DH's friends who own a Pizza place and catered the wedding for free.
- DH's tux - $100
- Ceremony - a gift from DH's friend's dad, Judge Whitesell.
- Hall - $300 - same hall where both of our parents had their receptions - the Pen Argyl Community Center.
- DJ for the wedding and reception - a gift from DH's dad. about $500.
- Hair (for myself nd DH) - done by my Aunt Jody and DH's brother's girlfriend. The only 2 stylists we know.
I think that covers everything.

Re: Married couples
Dated for 3 months before I asked her, but knew she was the one within a month. Then it took her a month to make her mind. Can you believe that? Make up her mind over me? She came to her senses and we were engaged for 8 months.
We paid for most of the wedding ourselves but, I have no idea how much we spent on it.

Re: Married couples
Another donated wedding here!
We got married at 18 (Craig was kind of on the way ). We actually got married twice in one day, once at my church, and then at his.
Paid around $100 for my dress, which was purchased the same day at the mall as the $30 bridesmaid dresses.
The reception was in my church's fellowship hall - the music was LP's played on my stereo.
Flowers - donated by bridesmaid's mom
Cake - donated by other bridesmaid's mom
Food - some purchased by my parents; most made and donated by the ladies at church
Pictures - taken by maid of honor's boyfriend, and their gift to us
Honeymoon - two nights at the Marriot here in Pittsburgh, but Andy had to work the day after the wedding, so I sat and watched Pink Panther cartoons. He also read a book about coachroaches.
The wedding was fine as is, but I think I'm still owed a honeymoon! 25th is coming up in 2005!
