Anyone else's kids have major tooth/mouth problems?? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

If you don't mind I have a couple of questions and then a little story.
How old is Abby?
Of the 11 teeth that Abby lost what was the reason of loosing them and over what period of time?
I have heard that different children loose their baby teeth at different times and sometimes severel during the same time period, later. I only recall a couple before I was 9 but I am sure it must have been more. At 9 I had to have a tooth in front pulled because one was growing infront of another two, like a double roll and the 3 looked like an odd shape triangle. After pulling the one tooth the other teeth fell in correctly by themselves. Years later, one on the other side, in front, turned sideways.
When my grand daughter was 3 or 4, her mother told us that my grand daughter had a dentist appointment to have a rotten tooth pulled. Believing one (1). When my grand daughter came to visit us she said, look grandpa, all of my front teeth are gone, see? Her dentist had told her they were rotten and had to be pulled---8 of them, all at the same time. I think the dentist was a quack as no one saw any cativies or rotten teeth and they were disposed of before we could see them. I think I know who one of the quacks was as see did not get a second dentist opinion.
You would never believe how a three old could remove corn from a cob with no front teeth, as smooth as pealing an orange. The 8 teeth eventually grew back.
So definitely get a third opinion, or fourth opinion. I, myself, do not personally believe that your dentist is informing you of the full problem which I sense from your inquiry to us. Specially since you can not get answers to question you ask.
Start from scratch, say nothing for now, and take advantage of a free dental exam which appear in newspapers or other pamphlets. See what they have to say. Ask questions.
Good luck and keep everyone informed.

My niece has a couple teeth that need to be straightened. My sister took her to the orthodontist and he told her it would be about $5000 for the braces and such and she must have it done now. My sister talked to some people she works with (whose kids have braces) and they told her to try taking her to the dental school. So for a 2nd opinion she took my niece to the dental school to see what they had to say. They told my sister that my niece still has at least 1 1/2 - 2 years of growing to do before they would do anything. And she still has baby teeth. They also are only going to charge her $3000 for everything that needs to be done (that includes all of her appts). My sister is thrilled because now she only has to save up $3000 instead of $5000. She has seen pictures of kids that have gotten their braces at the dental school and she says they have beautiful smiles now. My niece is really happy with this decision too.

I don't mind these questions.
Abby is 8. And the 11 teeth that are missing - they weren't lost. They're permanent teeth that never developed. She has lost 8 teeth naturally - with 5 of them growning back fine, 1 coming very slowly and crooked (she lost the tooth almost a year ago now but the tooth still hasn't come in fully) but the dentist isn't concerned with that one yet and 2 just not there to come back.
If I didn't like this new dentist, I certainly would get another opinion. I never told the new dentist anything about Abby's mouth or anything the old dentist recommended so I know the opinion he has is his own and not biased based on something he heard either directly or by heresay. And what he's going to charge to do the work is much much less than I'm pretty sure the other place would have charged. Plus I guess it all comes down to trust. I trusted the first dentist to screw me over and leave me in the dark, that's why I didn't want them doing any work on Abby. The new dentist I trust to tell me the truth and answer every single question I have, even if I repeat myself (which he has done). The new dentist definitely treats us like we matter, not like we're just a number to get in and out as quick as possible.

As an addition to lonereb's reply above it reminds me to mention that there are many professions out there that have schools of learning that offer free services, to a certain degree, or cheper fees, to customers as "guinea pigs" for there students to work on, such as the dentist mentioned.
Prices may range from free to low cost and higher depending on the experience offered. Remember that while students are learning that professionals, the teacher, supervises the "student" and any adjustments are crrrected.
I had attended barber college many times to save money. In the barber college they had many "chairs" in a line with the inexperience, those starting and learning, started at the back of the room. As their experience improved they would advance to the next chair and finally to chair number one for gradulation. A customer could sit at any chair they wanted to dependinng on what they wanted to pay from free to increase in prices as you worked forward to chair number one. Supervisors would check the haircuts for final cuts, trims etc. before the student getting an okey for the that haircut.
The homeless, hobo's, etc. would always go to the back chair to get a free haircut. Actually the less supervision a student needed he advanced forward to the front chair. But, all haircuts were inspected.
The free ones might be a thing of the past but you can save money.
Such as dentist, barbers, hair dressers and other occupations. So use your imagine and ask around.
Good luck Abby and keep those precious teeth chean.
A lot of people don't realize that teeth do get cavaties both inside the teeth as well as outside.
Not due to non brushing, but, I have always wished that I had white teeth like 99.999999 per cent of the people do. For some reason mine have always been colored a pale off white, light yellowish like being unclean. I have had cavaties and two crowns last December.
Except for two wisdom teeth pulled 50 some years ago the remaining 30 (of 32) can say Happy 74th Birthday this March.
