As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Nope - haven't tried that yet, but I should! We've got tons of junk around here that needs to go!
Sarah wants to have a big old yard sale to sell off all their old toys. She wants the money to buy "cool girl" stuff - CD's, butterflies, anything teenager style (SHE'S 6!!!). She wants to get rid of all her old Disney princess stuff. [img]graemlins/cry2.gif[/img] On a happier note, she does seem to like Tink right now!

Oh Tina I'm with you.. I sell a ton on Ebay & usually finance a good portion of my WDW trips...
I have a wholesale business so I can buy brand new items dirt cheap & sell them for over 75% profit ( most of the time).
My biggest sellers are my Disney videos & kids stuff.. WOW!!!
I've been going to thrift shops & getting some great items to re-sell on Ebay too...
I also sold my CAR on Ebay a couple months back.. so almost anything goes there!!
I consider this my second income...

No, we had no idea the puzzle was a collectible when we put it up for auction, so it was a fun surprise. The pieces were shapes of people, animals, lamps, etc. There was no box, a piece missing and some pieces with wearing edges.
And let me tell you, puzzle collectors are DIE HARDS! She had 4 or 5 bidders emailing her throughout the auction asking questions about if other bidders had contacted her directly and if so-and-so had contacted her. The lady who finally won told her specifically to not give her name or address to anyone!!

You HAVE to start selling on Ebay. It is my second income and sometimes I make more on Ebay in a month than I do at work!!! I buy the kids clearance clothes at the end of the season (name brand Tommy Nike Old Navy Gap, etc.). They wear them, and then I end up getting almost all of the $ back when I sell them on Ebay. You do have to keep the clothes in pristine condition, though. I know how to get out about any stain!!
Just last Sat. I listed 16 or 17 items on Ebay. They will end on Sat. Jalen's pajamas alone are 6 of the auctions and combined are already over $50! This is our Boston Passporter meet spending money [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
I've also sold BIG things, like Jalen's old Exersaucer for $59 (I think I bought it for $70 and he used it a lot)
I got my mom and sister hooked, but my mom takes the prize for selling. Get this: She had this old wooden puzzle in the basement that we had put together in 1982!! It has been sitting on a piece of cardboard in her basement for over 20 years. She decided to clean house and put a bunch of stuff on Ebay including this puzzle. She started the bidding at $5 with no reserve, because we really had no idea the puzzle was worth anything, just that it looked cool. So a few days later we got out to lunch and she is all excited to tell me it's up to $50. I was in shock! $50 for puzzle?!?
The day the auction is the end, I go over to her house. We check the auction before we go out to lunch. It has 6 hours left on it. It's up to (GET THIS!) $761!!!!!!!! We were dying, this was so exciting. So of course at lunch all we want to do is go home and watch the auction. By now, my sister, her dh and all his co-workers are watching this auction, too. About 1/2 hour before it ends, I keep pressing refresh on the auction and it's still sitting at $761. My mom is set that this will be the ending price. 30 seconds left in the auction. I refresh, still $761. 5 seconds left, I refresh, auction has ended at $1,265!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone sniped it up at the last second. The phone immediately rang, it was my sister. Her and her 6 year old were jumping around all excited. My mom is almost passing out. My heart was beating a million miles a minute.
THAT is by far our coolest Ebay experience. !!

Fascinating story Tina! Did your mom ever wonder why that puzzle was so desirable? It obviously must have been something collectable. Did you know it was a collectable item?
I have never bought, sold, or even been to E-bay! Don't have time, spend it all here!

There was a "history detectives" show on PBS the other night that included a wooden puzzle made in the early 1900s. They were trying to find information about it, as it was unusual. Anyway, they visited a couple puzzle collectors and it looks like wooden puzzles are a VERY big collectors item. Your Mom is so lucky that a real collector found it and thought it worthy of so much money! What a GREAT story you have there! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] Thanks for sharing it. -HiddenMicky
