As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

We are doing a Land/Sea package in December and staying at the Polynesian. Last year, we didn't leave on the Disney bus from the Poly until 12:30 and got to the ship around 2. My husband was very disappointed as he prefers to be onboard his cruises as early as possible.
My question to y'all is: What is the most efficient way - in your opinion - to get to the port from the World? Have you taken a taxi and how much did it cost? Did you rent a car for a 1-way rental and how did that work for you? Did you hire a car and how much did that cost?
In the past we have either rented a car or taken a town car. It depends on how many of us there are. Renting a car for the day is usually about $60. Taking a town car (which holds up to 4 people) is about $155 plus gratuity. If there are alot of you a van (which holds up to 10 people) would be about $170 plus gratuity.
The convience of a town car/ van is great. They pick you up at your hotel and take you directly to the pier. If you rent a car you have to pick it up and drop it off yourself.
Last time we rented a car and left it at the port (it was a 4-night cruise). Next year I think we'll do one way rentals, as I don't want to pay for all that parking at the port

Only thing to consider with a rental from WDW to the Port is that the rental car agencies are not at the port. This could be a major issue with getting to the rental car location and then back. I know in LA Enterprise had a shuttle to and from their rental location. I don't know if they do the same at the Port as I have only used Budget..... Just a thought.....
Three of the rental agencies currently offer free shuttles to the port. Fortunately, the layout at Port Canaveral isn't like it is in LA - the rental car drop-off and shuttle are quite easy.

We found the one way rental to be least expensive for our group, and it was pretty easy. Then you arrive when you want to. One cruise we rented from Budget at the Double Tree Hotel at DTD (they picked me up from POR in a free shuttle van) and returned at the Budget at Port Canaveral (DH dropped us and used the free shuttle to return the car.). We paid about $40 for a full size for the day with Costco discount.
When we do the return trip, Port to MCO, the car runs about $60 for some reason.
In anycase about half the price of either limo/van or Disney transfers.
We did 2, one-way rentals from Budget (MCO to Port Canaveral and reverse). It cost us <$100 Total. I'd do it that way again. Budget has a free shuttle to and from the port.

MCO to Port Canaveral we always rent a car. Miami and Fort Lauderdale we take a taxi. LA (San Pedro) and Long Beach we usually take Super Shuttle to the hotel and the hotel shuttle. Hint, hint. We always fly in the day before.
We had a long-term rental van as ours had broken down, so we drove. The parking cost was $45 in advance which is what we planned for (Thanks Dave!). I overheard another passenger complaining about the cost as he was NOT prepared for it (maybe he thought it would be free). Since we had a car there, we were able to leave any excess stuff there -- I made sure that I tossed any open food containers -- they had trash cans close by.
I did have to pay the tolls, but the directions were easy from the Poly and I was prepared to pay -- thanks again, passporter for the warning!
"he was NOT prepared for it"? I'm pretty sure the documents tell you where to park and how much it will cost. I've got some from RCI sitting in front of me and they have explicit directions on how to get to Port Canaveral from MCO, including tolls, and where to park and how much to pay.
