I have spent about 8 hours over the last thee days getting my grass cut. I didn't have time to cut it before I left for vacation, and it has rained ever since I got back Do you know that wet grass fills up the grass catcher faster than dry grass does? And that when the grass is 8 - 10 inches high it does not cut cleanly? I have had to go over the entire yard at least twice, and in some areas three times, just to get it to look decent. Unfortunately, I think I pulled a muscle in my back during the process! But the yard does look beautiful, at least until the next growth spurt!

Have you ever arrived back from vacation to find that something has gotten out of hand while you were gone?

Yup! DH tries to mow our grass as close to our departure date as possible. We go for 12 days so by the time we return he's definitely taming the beast!

Thankfully we have a nephew who runs his own lawn mowing service so he takes care of the yard while we are at WDW.

We had that experience just last weekend. We couldn't believe how high the grass had grown - fortunately only about four inches or so, but it was a nightmare to cut.

Yes, usually the lawn We try to cut it right before we leave, and usually come home to a meadow When we went away for 2 and a half weeks in 2006, we paid the neighbor's kid to do it for us while we were gone

We've come home to extremely high grass. We've also come home to find the pool close to overflowing when there have been a couple of big storms.

Usually my backyard grass. I have a nice neighbor that'll mow the front if it gets too hogh.

I need Cam's nephew this August! None of the services around here want to work for only vacations...and the neighbor kids aren't interested. They would have a booming business around here if they were. Us and our neighbor to the right are the only two on the street and almost the whole neighborhood who cut our own lawn.

Yes we have come home to the same problem. Usually when we come back from our spring break trip we have lots of yard work to do!
But - summer time is usually a time dh can't get time off from work, so he usually is home to do the yard work. I feel bad leaving him all alone in the summer to go to WDW and have fun, with him home working hard and then having to come to mow 3 acres! But, I must not feel too bad about it, I am doing it again!

We went to Niagara Falls a few years ago. My husband got the pool all cleaned up before we left and accidentally left out a bucket of chlorine, which promptly was struck by lightening and caused a gas cloud in the neighborhood while we were gone. The entire neighborhood and part of the highway was evacuated at 2 in the morning! While strolling around a lovely town in Canada, I get a phone call from my mother who lives in another state. It made the internet news. Gas cloud in Maryville! I was so embarrassed and so very glad no one was hurt. Needless to say, I did alot of friendly neighbor help for a few weeks upon our return!
