As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I won't allow my dd 12 to use either site. I feel she is too young and she has never given me a hard time because she rarely has time for that kind of stuff between school and sports. I just added text messaging to her cell phone and that made her happy for the moment.
As a mother of two teenage daughters, I was reluctant to allow my kids to go online. I myself have Myspace but there are so many concerns a mother has to face. And rightly so...I had given in, made sure I had all the passwords, no "adding friends" that she didnt know personally from school or our neighborhood, lots of frequent questions "who is so-n-so", etc. Kids can be careless and do make mistakes. I had found my daughter actually posted some personal information in her profile and I cant tell you how fast her world came crumbling down. We took everything away and drilled into her the dangers of strangers. She has earned our trust again, yet only to a point. As a mother, I highly recommend for anyone with teens to invest in some Guardian software. A simple search online, a quick download and youre able to read all emails, all passwords, anything viewed or typed. Not to mention I now have figured out how to save all her chat conversations from our desktop computer to a little folder on my laptop via wireless networking. You can never be too careful when it comes to your children. As for Facebook, I have to say, personally, it doesnt matter if its Facebook or myspace or whatever. There is danger everywhere and we cant be looking over their shoulder every second. Or so they think! *winks*

My kids are not allowed to sign up for any online profiles.
My DD has lots of friends with profiles on pages including Facebook. I just don't agree that it's a good idea at all.
Just an aside---
One of my DDs friends from scouts was online at the family computer that is in their kitchen in plain site of the parents. I looked down to see what the girls were looking at. They were on one of the sites looking at her friend's page and I noticed there were some unusual login names asking to be her friend. So, I asked her who they were. She had no idea. Then I looked at her profile and saw that she has set herself up as a 16 yr old (she was 12). I was horrified! Her mother then looks to see what's up and I showed her. She was even more so.... Especially since she said she'd forbade her from joining any sites. DD and I left quickly.
So her parents thought that just because she was in full sight of them at all times, that she was doing what she was allowed only.... Nope.
You have to be in highschool - and have someone at your highschool varify that you attend the school you say you do. Having said that my son is on FB and I have his password and I regularily check it. We have had conversations about what is ok and not ok to post. FB has been banned as an aceptable website by our school district and the kids have no access at school.
I also use FB and although the novalty has worn off somewhat, it has been nice to be in contact with old friends and people I haven't spoken to in a long time. I think caution is the key here. I do know of an instance that a young person was fired from here job after complaining on her FB page openly about her boss (I say young person but she was in her 20's). Choldren, including teens make poor judgment calls online and it is our job to monitor our teen online use. My son accepts this as part of online access in our house and he is fully aware that I spend a few minutes daily looking at his account.
well said. One of the perks of both of us being online is I get to see what my girls and their friends talk about. in fact a lot of their friends have added me as their "friend". you kind of get a fly on the wall view into their lives. plus when im out of town my girls and i keep in touch through comments and mail. they post bulletins *kind of a quick blog* & its just nice to see "everything" going on that maybe they wouldnt come to talk to you about on their own, they you can casually ask "hey whats that about?" i think myspace has been a blessing for us. so long as the rules are followed and the girls have strict monitoring.
