As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I don't mind sparkling wine, but avoid true Champagne like the plague. Like mentioned before.... Worst. Hangover. Ever. After only 2 glasses of really good French Champagne.
I'm really interested in this thread, I love Champagne very much , but please excuse my ignorance, I have a question. Do you guys over the pond call most sparkling wine Champagne . I'm curious because here in the UK we only call Champagne, Champagne when it comes from the Champagne region of France.
Another favourite sparkling wine of mine is Cava from Spain, but we would not call this Champagne. I'm really interested, thanks for all your interesting replies, I've really enjoyed reading them and have learned about some brands that I have never heard of but I shall look out for in future.

Unfortunately, we "guys over the pond" do have a tendency to call most sparkling wines Champagne. BUT - there are some that are marketed and labeled as "Sparkling Wine." Neither of these should be confused with "Sparkling Grape Juice," which, of course, is non-alcoholic.
I believe that I read a while back that France and the US were arguing in court over the naming of wines. Of course, the correct way to name them is by the grape variety or by the region. If they do not have the proper percentage of the variety, or if they do not come from the region, they should not carry the name. When they were being produced initially over here no one paid any attention to that, and our tendency to call things what we wanted took over. I'm not certain how that little legal argument came out, but haven't seen any name changes coming down the pike!
As far as liking Champagne, in light of the reminder above, I don't know! I've never had any "real" Champagne. I like, but don't , sparking wines. Most are too dry for my taste. My very favorite wine is icewine!

Mostly we (here in the Canadian prairies, anyway) call almost any sparkling wine "champagne" (with a small "c"), just like we call pretty much any tissue "kleenex" regardless of the actual name brand, or how some people call any soda pop a "coke" even if it's a Pepsi. I think, however, at least here, that we are starting to get better at recognizing that only Champagne is true Champagne and that sparkling wine is sparkling wine and we are starting to get a bit more specific in what we call it. Clear as mud?

I was speaking to DH about it a little earlier and he said that in Europe Champagne can legally only be called Champagne when it comes from Champagne if you see what I mean? It's called 'Protected Designation of Origin' according to Mr Brainy Pants .
Mr Brainy Pants also said if you don't like very dry sparkling wines you could try it with creme de cassis, I personally haven't tried because I love very arid dry wine but Allan really recommends it.

The only real champagne is from the Champagne region of France. Sparkling wine from any other EU country is just that . . . sparkling wine. The rules applying to calling things Champagne only apply to EU countries--so our dear friends in California are legally allowed to call their bubbly Champagne (but it isn't) I love Champagne and bubbly from all over the world. We broke out a bottle of Tattinger Rose as a celebration for my having cleaned the kitchen. ( we drink champagne at the drop of a hat!) I love all things bubbly and really really like Proseco (sp--I've been drinking champagne) one of the Italian versions. My favorite bottle are mostly Rose, but I've been known to drink anything that has bubbles in it . . .

Mr. Brainy Pants is correct - creme de cassis + Champagne = Kir Royale, and is a yummy, yummy drink! (even if you just use champagne or "sparkling wine" it's still yummy)
In my book, all sparkling wines and champagnes here are the same, there is no diff. Now, Champagne - there is a diff. I can taste it.
And, yes, I love to drink them. I don't get hangovers, but I get quite bubbly and tipsy myself after just a glass or two. So I don't drink it often.
