Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

travel agent and magic your way tickets

Disney reservations operators must be very busy. Thought I'd get advise here before tying up their lines. Used a travel agent to book 9 day trip for april 08. Three on site hotels with myw tickets (park hoppers, etc). Noticed the confirmations from each hotel list '3 day ticket' (added together they equal the correct 9 days). Was that more expensive for tickets than one hotel charge being for 9 day ticket and the other two just regular charges? Thanks for your time. I feel better knowing people answer at their leisure rather than me asking a overwhelmed (but happy to do their job) 'reservationist' first.

Hi and Welcome to the Boards

If I understand your question- then yes- it was more expensive to do it that way.
The least expensive way would have been to put a 9 day ticket with your first reservation and then Room Only reservations for your next two resorts. However- you do not mention whether or not you are on the dining plan? If you are- you need to get at least a one day ticket at each resort since the only way to get the dining plan is with a package (or if you are a DVC member staying at a DVC resort).

Hope that helps a little.

marisag, thanks

Yes we are on dining plans. Have 3 hotel stays, park hopper and will try to drag husband to pleasure island. Noticed the tickets were not park hopper and more. Thinking about no expiration. Love my passporter. Even husband is beginning to browse. Thanks

Thanky to colexis

Glad to be here but probably wont post much. Sure do enjoy all the reading though. More info on my original question: I think that only the travel agent can do any rearranging of my plans. But this way I'll be able to get back to them with sensible worded thoughts. Thanks so much for the welcome.

Only your TA can make changes to your reservations. If you are on the dinning plan, then yes you have three seperate stays. It would have been much cheaper to buy a 9 day ticket, and then just do room only for the other resorts. Since you have the dining plan though you could not do that.

Thanks paradox

Think I should have controlled myself and stayed in one hotel if we were going to have dining plan. Much more $ left then. But there are so many hotels and only two of us and maybe 3 decades of visiting remaining. Which probably equals only 3 more visits. And then the food, the food. Thanks for the input.

I would reccomend against the no expiry option...the cost level it puts the tickets up to, esp. for 9 days, would compete with an annual pass for how much it would cost you to get that option....and then with the AP you'd get the discounts that go along with it. We did no expiry once, and because we go every year it wouldn't be a good payoff for us....and if you're not going for another several years, you're probably better off just getting a ticket that expires....the cost to go from a 5 day to a 9 day is not that much at all, so don't feel like you're "wasting" days if they don't get used...chances are at that point they're only costing you five or ten bucks per day.

One thing you might want to think about is dropping the dining plan from your itenerary, that way you could do a 9 day pass and still stay at your three hotels that you would like to. A 3 day MYW pass is going to cost you $216.20 (price from Deb's Unofficial Walt Disney World Vacation Information Guide - WDW Planning Guide - Walt Disney World) ...while a 9 day MYW pass is only 237.50 (same price source). Yes...twenty dollars more for 6 more days on your pass....so three MYW passes are going to cost you almost $650.....I don't know about you, but I don't think the dining plan is worth $400 per person. Oh, and adding on the park hopper option is only $45 per ticket, no matter how many days. No expiry for a 9 day ticket is $165.08

Your choice if you want to stay with the dining plan, but I'd check with your travel agent on the pricing and see if you're really being charged for three 3-day MYW tickets. It might save you a ton of cash to NOT go dining plan, and just get one 9 day ticket. Of course, the one wrench in the plan is I know Disney has a pretty good deal going now on resort plus MYW tickets, I don't know how much if any it would save you, but I know prices were about $200-300 off the "list" Disney website package price when I was pricing out my 5 day visit in March....so depending on when you're going, and if there is any sort of package involved, it might work out to be cheaper...tough to say.

The other thing you could do is just stay at one resort....there is no saying you can't go and visit others for the dining, ambience and to get a feel for what the resort is like. I don't think you can use the rec. facilities, but at least this way one resort will be "home" and you can still get a cheaper ticket rate....and stil do the dining plan if you stay at one resort as well.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

Tim

Much thanks, Tim.

What a great ( but scary idea). Giving up the dining plan but saving SO much. Loved your input. Discussion Boards are a money saving trip planning YES. Thanks. Now I must stop being lazy and do the ground work like its recommended. Will probably gain weight just listing the food choices.....wait...is that WDW table service food I smell?

Thanks.
