way to deal with fall's leaves?

Although not part of my original plans, I spent part of yesterday giving the yard its last mowing of the season - made necessary when my neighbors tackled their yard! Since my grass catcher is not working, and the discharge chut is sealed by the non-functioning grass catcher, the clippings - including a large number of leaves - ended up in neat little rows on the lawn. I had to go over them several times, until they were finely chopped and able to drift down into the grass.

All of this made me think of the many ways in which leaves can be disposed of - mulching, raking, blowing, composting, bagging, etc. One year I even ignored them, but had to reseed in the spring!

My favorite way to deal with them is to suck them up with my blower/vacuum (which I still have to do with the deck, garden, and patio leaves) and put them onto the compost heap.

What's your favorite way to deal with fall's leaves?

We use the leaf blower to make piles of leaves. They are then raked into garbage cans and taken to the garden where we then proceed to turn them into mulch.
I just cleaned the entire yard on Friday and by Saturday morning it was covered in leaves again.

I live in an apartment and don't have to worry about that. They just built them and so we don't really have any big trees, just the small ones they put in when they completed all the landscaping

Usually we don't have to do much - there's usually some wind around to help disperse them. This year, we did get some piles of leaves, so I swept them up.

We just let them blow across our yard. It's too big (2 acres) to rake, and we don't have that many trees. Plus it's always windy since we're on top of a hill, so they just disappear

We raked them all up, piled them onto a huge tarp and dragged them into the forest in the back (many, many trips!). We took the tarp away, but left the leaves in a huge pile. Now the deer are sleeping in them and eating them.

DH takes care of the leaves, but his method of choice is the backpack leaf blower. The front yard leaves get suked up by the city, and the backyard leaves go into the mulch pile.

DH uses the mulcher mower and then puts the leaves in the yard waste barrels for the city to pick them up. If he runs out of room in our barrels, he fills yard waste bags and the city takes them. Everything is brought to the city compost station for use by citizens for 'free'

My dad uses his giant lawnmower to blow them into the woods or natural areas. He did that about twice this year. Last year we spent a whole day raking and stuff, but he must have figured out a better way this year, because no one raked, not even once.

My favorite thing to do with leaves is play in them though. When I was a kid, I loooooved jumping and hiding in the giant piles in the ditches at my grandma's house. I kind of had to sneak and do it, because she didn't like us doing that - she thought it was too close to the road and also was worried about ticks and such. Never so much fun was had, though!

DH does that. He has a mulching ride-on mower, so he's happy.
Our deck was built AROUND a tree (it sticks up right in the middle of the deck, so it's always shaded - but I can't get my table and all of the chairs on it well). THOSE leaves, I just sweep down to the yard and then they are ------ DH's Problem!!

We have about 2 acres to mow so DH uses the lawn tractor and mulches/collects them and dumps them into a mulch pile. We use it the following year for fertilizer in the flower beds.

None of our trees shed leaves so that's my favorite way to deal with leaves.
