As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

DD caught the pin bug at the end of our trip, and I want to get her some for Christmas to trade at DL when we're in CA this winter. I know that CMs have to trade with kids, and I was thinking of putting permanent backs on DD's "special" ones that she's not allowed to trade so she doesn't trade them by accident. I'm looking on ebay to get some not so special, but really cheap, ones for her to trade, and I know to look for the copyright info. Any other tips for first time traders?

My biggest tip would be to recommend to your DD to not be shy and ask people that she sees in the parks wearing lanyards to trade pins. However, caution her that not everyone trades, some people just like to wear their pins as jewelry. But, it never hurts to ask!
I my self would say leave the "not to be traded" ones at home. then that way they are not traded or lost. And also watch when she dose trade because I have seen storys where the "die hard" adult pin traders have tricked kids about pins. (a 20.00 pin for a 2.00 pin and so on)
Someone I can't remeber who or where I seen it but the disney stores are starting to sell them again also. If you have a disney outlet by you you may get some there also.
Hope she has fun with it. You would have to check into it, once again I am not a pin trader, but do have some, but I seen some where that some CM's have diffrent laylards or something diffrent to stand out that they are only allowed to trade with kids.

That sounds like what I was thinking. She wants to show off her "keepers", so I'll buy more locking backs for those. I was also thinking to stick with CMs. That's how I approached her with it when she showed interest, was to ask CMs that had a pin she liked. Also, I'm bidding on a few on ebay, with someone who has 100% positive and over 12,000 sales, so I'm thinking they're ok. I just hate that I'm at work and don't have access to ebay!!! I can access my mail and see that I've been outbid, etc, but can't do anything about it. Oh well, I'll look again tonight!

I bought a bag of locking back at DL last year. There were something like 10 for under $10. They're really worth it, but don't wind them too tight - I popped the backing off our Mission Space pin!!
I'm looking at some pins being sold by thewill on ebay. They have 100% feedback, so I'm feeling pretty safe. I'd like to buy DD some nice ones to keep, and some boring ones to trade when we go to DL Jan 1st. So far I won a pretty Prilla fairy pin for $2.42. Lots of them are listed at $0.01 to start, and I don't want to pay too much for boring/trading ones, so I'm watching carefully. They have shipping listed as $2.75 for 1st pin, 50 cents added for each additional, and you can take up to 14 days to combine your purchases/winnings. Sounds pretty good to me.

WHY ARE SOME CAST MEMBERS WEARING GREEN/TEAL LANYARDS?
Disney Pin Trading is fun for people of all ages. However, kids, ages 3-12, get an extra trading treat. Look for Kids Only lanyards - Disneyland® Resort uses "teal" lanyards and Walt Disney World® Resort uses "green" lanyards. This means that Kids are the only Guests allowed to trade from these special lanyards. Kids can also trade from Cast Members wearing blue lanyards
I am really excited about the locking pin backs...DH and i collect pins and we wear them at the parks but we have never traded we just love every pin we have to much to want to trade them...but we have lost a couple with the rubber backs...so i super excited about the locking backs!

Try buying at your local Disney Store first! Before our trip we went into our store and they have gotten some GORGEOUS pins in for sale! They are price pointed below park cost, but are just as detailed. They even have sets. There was a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs set that when split up was less than $3 a pin! And you know they're aucthentic. I also went to the outlet when I was down last week and you could get pins on sale from $4 to $8 a pin. They didn't have any sets at the time, but they did have the medallions and lanyards. They even had some special events pins and 2006 pins. We just have the girls trade with cast members to be safe. WE also got a small purse for the girls to wear that has pages inside to put your pins on. That way if the backs came off, the pins didn't fall to the ground and be lost. IT zippers all around and kept them safe. They also had hip pages on a strap like the
CM's wear for about $5 at the outlet. HAve fun!
I don't know if they still have these "pin trading events" at the resorts but when were there a year ago there were days when they had Disney pin trading at the Contemporary and All Star resorts (can't remember if it was just one) in the evening.
My son loved it, because you could trade 4 pins at a time and make a selection from a big board with many pins on it. There were tons of kids doing it.

They have a similar board at the pin store in DTD - only it's only open at select time, you can only trade one pin, and you have 30 seconds to choose a pin and give them a pin in return! The girls loved it.
They also have a special pin trading session twice a day at The World of Disney Store in DTD. You take a card from a deck of cards and that deermines when your turn will be. When your turn comes up you can trade two pins from their book.
