As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

To those who are familar with Southwest policies, I have a couple questions. I generally fly Spirit as I get a lot of $9 fares. But I just had a situation where I was a little frustrated with them. We have had a trip planned for months, before the school schedule came out. We leave Oct 2, and found that Oct 1(Monday) is now a professional development day at my kids school, so there isn't school. This info wasn't available when I booked. So, we could now leave as early as Friday night. Sounds great, right? 4 more days in Florida!! But nooooo. Spirit charges 60.00 a person for non-refundable fares. So, inlcuding the slight fare increase for our travel dates, it would cost us close to 400.00 to switch, and 240.00 of that is stupid fees.(and this fare wasn't a $9 fare to begin with)
So, it bummed me out. And now I am sourcing airfare for Feb and decided to start looking at Southwest. I t appears that they do not have the fee for changing their itinerary. Is that correct? So, if cheaper fares come out after I book, I can get those without a fee? Or if our dates change? If so, does the difference come in the form of a travel credit or do they credit you back with the method of payment?
Also, is there a cancellation fee? Or can you cancel and just get a voucher for the amount of the tickets?
In a situation with Spirit, if you cancel, you would still need to pay the 60.00. So, anyway you slice it with the non-refundable fares, you are getting socked with that 60.00 charge.
I just want to make sure it is as it appears with Southwest because this last time with Spirit has really changed how I approach the fares. It stinks that it will jsut cost too much to alter our plans because we could have several more days in Florida.
Wow, this is a long post.
Thanks everyone!

If you change your flights within 24hours you get your money back. If you change/cancel after 24hours, you can get a credit to be used within 12months. If your fare, for same exact flights drops, you can get your money back. Make sure you check out their Ding program. They send you notices of fare sales. Most of us have saved this way. I just booked airfare 3days ago, and realized I did it backward! I called and got it switched. No problem, within 24hours. Then I booked it the correct way. Came home the next day, got a Ding notice, and got another $170back on credit card because it was the same exact flights, just cheaper! I love Southwest. Just remember you don't get seat assignments.
I think the crew are happier and it shows in the service you get. I know I would be happier in dockers and a polo shirt than skirts, stockings, and high heels!
It appears that they do not have the fee for changing their itinerary. Is that correct? Correct - there is no fee or penalty to change your itinerary.
So, if cheaper fares come out after I book, I can get those without a fee? Yes, you can rebook without a fee (provided the lower-priced fare is available and not sold-out).
Or if our dates change? No fees involved, even if your dates change. However, lower-priced fares may not be available on your new travel dates.
If so, does the difference come in the form of a travel credit or do they credit you back with the method of payment? Difference will be issued in the form of a Southwest Ticketless Travel Funds credit that is good for one year.
Also, is there a cancellation fee? No - no cancellation fee. Fully refundable fares will be refunded back; any other type of fares will be credited with Ticketless Travel Funds.
Or can you cancel and just get a voucher for the amount of the tickets? Cancellations of a non-refundable flight will be a Ticketless Travel Funds credit.
Simpliest way to check, after purchasing your ticket, is to go to the Travel Tools section of Southwest and click on Change Air Reservation. Enter your confirmation number and you can see your flight information. From there you can choose a new date or time or keep the information the same and see if a lower price is available (and what the fare difference would be). If it's more (or the same), simply cancel out of the change. If it's lower, process the change and get your credit.

Thanks you guys, that is really helpful. I really loved Spirit's fares but sometimes life happens and not being able to even add a couple days without paying these fees seems unfair. We are still flying spirit and still going to the same place etc etc. I can accept the pay per bag idea.....but fees where they try to charge you for something that really doesn't affect them seems silly. They don't even have to make the change themselves, we do it online. So, it sours me a little on spirit and warms me to SW...lol.
Thanks for all the info.
Today I had a Ding Fare for my travel dates and it is less than our original price, so can I call Southwest and see about rebooking with the ding fare or do I can I only rebook those fares online? I know some of SWA's fares are only good if you book online.
You can only rebook Ding fares online. What you do is open up one browser window and log in to the SW web site and go to travel tools. Open up another browser window with the Ding fares, choose your new flights and go through the purchase process all the way to the page where you input your payment info. There should be a button that says "Use Ticketless Travel Funds" - go back to the first window and click on Cancel My Flight. Go ahead and cancel your flight. Then go back to the second window, click the Ticketless Travel Funds button and enter the confirmation code and name on the credit card from the flight you just cancelled. Those funds will be applied to the new, less expensive reservation and you can use what is left over towards future flights!
