As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I thought I read somehwere recently that Disney has "relaxed" the rules a bit in the dining rooms at dinner time. I thought shorts and jeans were OK now - just no bathing suits. Is this true?

It depends on the cruise. The longer the cruise, the more occasions where dressier attire is required. Shorts are not appropriate for dinner in any of the main dining rooms - Lumiere's/Tritons, Animators Palette or Parrot Cay although you will most likely see people wearing them. The suggested dress code for nights that are not formal or semi-formal is collared shirts and slacks for men, a dress, skirt or dress slacks for women with an appropriate top. Jeans are now considered acceptable attire for everywhere exceot Palo and formal/semi-formal night.

Would capris be acceptable for ladies in the dining rooms on a casual night?
Yes, I've worn nice black capris with a tailored white blouse and sparkley jewelry. Along with a pair of dressy sandals.

Thanks for the great answer. My mom was just asking me today if Capris would be okay. We are doing the 7 night next May along with a week in the parks following. We are usually very casual when on vaca (ie shorts and tshirts for everything) so having to pack nice clothes too is going to be challenging. I have already started shopping for my dh and the kids, but nothing for myself. Gotta lose a few pounds so I can find things that fit. Ugghhh...
What I've done is to pack a couple of slacks and double wear them. They're only on for a couple of hours a day. Toss in the formal and semi-formal nights (suit) and that takes care of the trip. Have to pack plenty of shirts, however.
We just got back from our land/sea a few weeks ago. This was out 3rd Disney cruise and I hate to be a poop head but, I was really disapponted in how a lot of people came to dinner. It was so different than the other two cruises. I would say the dress code is very relaxed. I saw several men in tank shirts and women in shorts and t-shirts even on formal night. I guess I am old fashioned and feel if you are having a fancy dinner you could at least have on a pair of dress pants or church type clothes. Iknow, I am being a poop head!
The 3 and 4 night Bahamas cruises have become extremely laid back. As you suggest, perhaps too much. Not just DCL but RCI and Carnival as well. I can put you on a 3 night Bahamas cruise on Carnival for about $215/night/person, with taxes and fees. At that level of "investment" you get an entirely different cruiser.

You are definitely not being a poophead and I would thank-you for helping to create a nice atmosphere at dinner. We recently returned from an 11 night Mediterranean cruise and were just a disappointed as you about the way several groups dressed, even for formal night.
With that being said, I see no problem with jeans or capris and a nice shirt, except for formal night. Just no cutoffs or tank tops. Disney will not turn anyone away though, so you will more than likely see it all at dinner.
