What do you wish you'd taken more pictures of? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I can't stress enough... take the video camera with you. You won't regret having to lug it around ( really its not like the thing sits on your shoulder like a newscam) The memories of looking back at them 5 yrs from now are priceless. I have these of my nephews when they were 8 -9 yrs old. now they are in their teens, so different. 5 yrs from now I will feel the same when they are in their 20's , so its worth it it really is. I am glad I have these videos of them

As far as lugging around a video camera, I found a solution! I have a fleece messenger bag/purse. When we go to WDW, I put our camcorder, digital camera, and my wallet it there. While walking around, I either put it on my shoulder & accross chest or in the stroller basket. When we park the stroller to go on a ride, it's easy to grab and all my valubles are already in there.
We got a new camcorder for our next trip. It is a Panasonic with a 30gig hard drive (so no discs or tapes to lug around). It is TINY!! It fits in the palm of your hand, and can record between 7 and 27 hours of video depending on the quality. We plan to take the laptop to move stuff over if we are running out of room. We never bring the camcorder - call us lazy - so we intend to use it this time. Besides, my parents, sister and her family, and sometimes my in-laws always go to WDW with us. This will be the first time they don't, so we want to be able to share the memories with them.
What do I wish I had taken more photos of??? EVERYTHING!!!!!
I know, this surprises those that know me, especially when I take 1500+ photos on a 4 day trip (you don't even want to know my pic count on a 10 day trip). Now that Jan carries a digital camera also, we have photos of us both, as well as everyone else with us...
I have a nice video camera, I just forget to carry it many times unless I specifically plan to tape something. Our digital cameras do video, and they do a fine job of it too. We've started taking video that way. We always have at least one computer with us so downloading and backing up is never an issue...
I wish I had taken some pictures of our 1BR at OKW. The first time we went there we stayed in a studio and I have lots of pictures of that, and of the OKW grounds in general, but I was too lazy to lug the charger/printer dock down the past few times. That will be rectified in the next few trips. In September we're staying at AKV (yay!!) and next April/early May we'll be celebrating our 30th (!) anniversary at OKW. Absolutely must have pictures of those trips.
I generally get about 500 of my son on vacation, but where am I (behind the camera of course). This past trip in May, I asked the photopass photographers to use my camera as well when taking the picture...of course, I didn't think about this until the last day. But I did end up with one group shot with everyone in it!
This next trip, I am going to be on a Hidden Mickey search and I thought it would be kind of neat to take pictures of Hidden Mickeys and do a scrapbook page with them.
Everyone keeps mentioning the photopass photos...how much are the discs? And does anyone have links to their photopass pics? We really didn't get many last time we were there!
I gave my DD6 my old digital camera. Good news, lots of pictures of things I would never have thought of. She is particularly fond of all the different light posts, especially at AK and the ones with the Wishes "wings". Bad news, lots of pictures of my backside from an unflattering angle! Whenever someone pushed her stroller (yes, 6 and in a stroller!) she got pictures of my backside!
I found that by bringing my laptop and uploading my pictures each day I missed less. I would have a glass of wine and watch a slideshow of the day after the kids were down for the night. If I saw something missing, I could try to get it during the rest of the trip. Of course, I am still lacking from most of our trip. I don't count pictures of my backside as a picture of myself!
Thanks to the great advice of fellow PP's I got some good shots of DD watching Parades and shows, but the trick was to not let her see me take the shot, because she would tend to pose or over react to what was going on! But I do wish I had taken more food and sign photos, and more Flower and Garden Festival Photos. We got the photo pass, but still those are limited to certain shots, I wish I had more of DD and I doing things together! I also wish I had more "end of day" shots, as my battery would often go dead. Getting a spare before the next trip to fix that problem!
our resort! I think that by the time I got back from the parks, I'm only thinking of putting DD7 to bed and getting to bed myself. This time I will take tons of pictures of SSR! Also, we're going with friends and my mom. We're going to try swapping camera's periodically. The reason is that I just completed my Disney book from last year and I had tons of pictures of my friends and their family and only three of my family
