As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
I was wondering, with all the opportunities that are availible for audience participation at WDW, which event was so lucky to have you and which would you like to do?
I sang to Miss Victoria on Main Street.
I've danced with one of the Street Entertainers at the Studios.
I was chosen twice as the extra in the Blacklot tour.
And I was in Indian Jones at the Studios.
I realy want to be in any and all the parades and get in the Hot Seat.

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
Haven't done anything at WDW, but....!!
At our local park, Paramount's Kings Dominion I was selected last summer to participate in their Survivor show Paramount had in their parks last year. It was the coolest thing next to actually getting selected for Survivor! It was Australian themed and I was on the Ogakor tribe. We did four challenges and the winner won a big Survivor grab bag (I was voted off!). I did get to keep my Ogakor buff that I wore during the show. It was a lot of fun, I was on the local news, and at the end I got to meet Tina Wesson (winner of Survivor Australian Outback) and Jeff Varner who was on the Kucha team. My kids still think I'm famous for that! HA!
I've got a picture of me and my kids with Tina and Jeff - I'll see if I can scan it and post it!

Dh has been selected several times, and DD was involved in street performers banter in MGM. Me? I never get picked...

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
I was chosen for Superstar Television (remember that?) at MGM. I don't know the character's name but it was a nasty woman on 'All my Children' I think. I wore a pink dressing gown and the dialogue had something to do with someone cheating on someone and I pulled out a gun at the end! The guy who played my husband couldn't keep a straight face and we ended up laughing through the whole scene even though we were supposed to 'act angry'.
I loved Superstar Television and I was very sorry to see it go.

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
My Dh, DD and I were chosen to be in the new Mickey's Jammin' Jungle parade at Animal Kingdom. We got to ride behind the tiger and in front of Donald Duck. He kept squirting us with his water hose while we were waiting for the parade to start.
My DD also got to escort the characters out to the Animal Kingdom meet and greet at rope drop. (The CM said, "They never let guests do that", but Timon saw DD and her Birthday Button on his way to the character line up and pulled her in to lead them out. It was definitely a "magic moment."

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
Never been chosen for anything. Never really tried either. I would like to be in one of the parades. I'm going to try to write a letter to be in the MK parade next time I go. I heard that they choose the grande marshal family that way.

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
We have been chosen for Backlot Tour (Getting hit with 800 gallons of water and being ambushed on a ship). Indy Show, Asked to dust the Living Statues, Participated in a street show at MGM, Asked to spread the pixie dust that shut off the lights on Main Street at the start of Spectromagic. We are sure that our daughter is the shoe in. She seems to get picked for everything everywhere we go!!!
I would like to be in one of the parades!!!

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
OH!!! My son Justin was selected for Superstar TV back in 1996 when he was 4 years old - hi, was that hard just to let him go behind stage without one of us! He played Gilligan from Gilligan's Island! What a memory! And I, too, REALLY miss Superstar TV - maybe they'll bring back an updated version!

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
On our most recent trip DH was in the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. He got to do an evil laugh for the audience (after the show he honestly said "Wow, that is so wierd - I'd been practicing my evil laugh." ??????? Allrighty then.) He also got to get shot and die. He did VERY well, and looked stunning in a turban. DS got to be in a mime street performers act, which was real cute. The closest I came was in Millionaire when they were looking to fill the hot seat and I was 4th in the audience. Maybe next time.
Great question!

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
I've been in an audience participation thing at Busch Gardens Williamsburg before....some renaissance play.
My daughter was chosen by a CM to help announce at Bug's Life 3D, they even gave her a vest to wear. My son was asked too, but declined. I wish I'd had my video camera...she was so cute (4 yrs old).
My daughter and I danced in Tapestry of Nations with one of the "puppet" people when they asked my daughter to come out to dance, but she wouldn't go without one of us parents...so we three held hands and danced together.
If I were a kid, I'd like to be the one picked to pull the Sword out of the Stone. I wish one of my kids had been chosen to do this....they really want to get that sword out, too . -HiddenMickey

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
DH was chosen to be Sir Gallahad in the play at United Kingdom. Of course, that was the day we left the video camera in the car. He was a natural comedic actor! He also was chosen for the EarthQuake ride at Universal. He got to ride on an escalator and had to act like he had been just hit by an Earthquake. I filmed that one, and he was pretty convincing. I only seem to get razzed by CM's in places like Prime Time and Whispering Canyon. (I guess because I'm a good sport and can pretty much talk to anyone.) Maybe I'll volunteer for something this time down, as it will totally embarrass my stepson and nephew!

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
I was chosen to be in the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular way back in 1990 when my DH (boyfriend at the time) took me to Disney for my 21st birthday. MGM had just recently opened (If I remember correctly) so that was pretty cool. DH and I are going in May with my mom and dad and my 5 year old DD and 3 year old DS so I would love to be involved with ANYTHING with my kids. Anyone have any tips on how to be picked to be in a parade or anything else?

On our Honeymoon DH and I got chosen for Indiana Jones because we were on our Honeymoon. The weird thing was b4 we went to the show DH said I want to be in the show. Let's get there early. He got to have someone shoot him and play dead. He was pretty good!! We got a picture taken of us in the turbans and everything but it didn't turn out!! !

Re: Finally came up with A Silly question for the day
Last year during our May trip when they still did that part of Backlot where they show you how sitcoms are filmed with "Home Improvement" Keith (DH) was chosen to fill in for the "Al" character and was given the big buffalo plaid flannel workshirt and tool belt. He's a big annoying tease at home or with friends; but put him out in public and he gets really shy and self-concious; good traits for a reporter, eh? I got some GREAT shots out of it at least!
