Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Off Site scrapbooking stores - help

I am returning this year!!! cant wait!!

Since my last visit 4 years ago I have taken up scrapbooking. I am looking forward to buying Disney supplies on site but I would really like to go to some other stores to stock up on basic stash & papers.

Please can you lot help me?? I need recomended stores, preferably within malls or near other stores as I am staying on site and wont have a car. I would like a day out shopping on my own and would take a taxi from Down town Disney or our Hotel. Are there any malls that have scrapbooking ssotes and/or a Michaels or Joannes close to DW??

Thanks

I haven't been to any other than the one at DTD, which was underwhelming. If I were going back soon I think I'd head to the Mousememories store. Their website says that they now are open for actual real-person shopping. But it may be out of taxi range.

I agree about the WDW scrapbook store! My vote is for MouseMemories too - can't wait to check it out! I ran a map search. Using the Swan/Dolphin at Epcot as a reference point, the search said that it's 13+ miles/23 minutes to the MouseMemories address in Kissimmee!

Again, using Swan/Dolphin/Epcot area - zip code 32830, we get a Michaels in Kissimmee - on N. John Young Parkway at 7 1/2 miles.

Ditto for Joann's - W. Irlo Bronson HWY - their site says it's 5.2 m SE. Their site also indicates this is a Superstore. If it is anything like the Superstore where I live, you can expect about eight times the amount of space and inventory on individual sheets of scrapbook paper. Much better than the regular Joann's store.

Scrapyourtrip is also in Orlando - but not a 'brick and mortar' store. But since you're from out of the US, maybe you could have stuff shipped to you at the hotel while you're at WDW since the shipping cost is about 1/2 of what you'd pay internationally. Then you have to deal w/transporting stuff home. Just another idea!

Of course, take the distances as 'approximates'!

Sorry, no Hobby Lobby or Archivers close by!

Honestly I don't think the Mousememories.com store is THAT far from WDW. It might be about 5-6 miles from Property (not more then a 15/20 minute drive...IF that!). It is right off from 192 (the main drag). It is closer to St. Cloud. I would go there before I go to Joannes or Michaels. I have been to several Joannes and Micheals in the area and they don't have that much more Disney stuff then your local stores. I say...don't waste your time. MouseMemories is your best bet for Disney stuff. If you are worried about cab far honestly I would say skip the trip to the store...it isn't worth the time/cost. They ship anywhere in the world and it might actually be cheaper to have the stuff mailed directly to your home. WDW has some great scrapbook kits...I buy at least 2 each trip. Also buy a scrapbook right at the parks...they are around $30 (not that much more then a "regular" scrapbook). Just take LOTS of photos...and if you aren't yet...GO DIGITAL!!

Tell you what. I am going to WDW next week. Taking the Magical Express. I'll do some checking and see if I can stir up any information. But, Robin has it down pat, shop online, ship it, and then you don't have to carry it with you later.

The store at DTD is OK for park specific and unique-to-WDW items, stickers, paper packs, embellishments. I prefer Joann's Superstore over Michael's in our area any day, don't know how they are down south. I was a vendor a few booths down from MouseMemories at a convention in Orlando last year and WOW, did I drool every time I passed their booth! I had some serious embellishment envy going on! That's probably the one store I'd try to go to for Disney scrapbooking stuff.

I don't know what kinds of supplies you can get where you are, but if you are just needing general things, I'd be happy to help out if you ever need anything (I have friends in Germany who have me shop Hobby Lobby for them every few months... )

Thanks for your help. That would be great Songbird.
I have been trying to do a little more research myself on the net.
Remember we dont have anythink like your Michaels, joanns or target in the uk. I live in the North of Scotland and it is difficult to get any decent scrap stuff at a decent price. You are all so lucky, as far as I can see you are about half the price for most items in the US.
Some of you mentioned shopping on line. The drawback is that shipping is high to the uk and most packages are stopped at customs and charges made.
I am staying at a disney hotel and I have read that they dont accept packages for guests so I dont even think I could order stuff and get it shipped to the hotel.

I think I will definately try to go to the Michaels, Target & AC Moore in Colonial Drive. I recon that they are closest to the ASM resort and are quite close to each other? OPerhaps someone can confirm this.
I have also read about a store in the Florida Mal (could be theTerrace at the MAll), I think it was the Scrapbook Boutique and it could now be the Scrappy Boutique? I was planning going to The Florida Mallanyway to get some clothes.

Any more suggestions - fire away!!

Fiona,
I ship things to myself at Disney resorts all the time, so that is an option. In the address or comments portion, just put "Hold for guest arrival on: [date]" I've never had a problem with it!

Are you going to have customs issues taking it back on the plane with you? Also, do they hold "gifts" for customs? For some reason, I thought those were exempt.
