Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

TV Boycott?
I have just about had it with the news. Reports that turn into "sorry-it was just a rumor" and the repetition of the most tragic events.
Sure, we need to be informed, but by ALL the networks, ALL the time? If they would just say, Well, we are going to go to our regular schedule and for 2 or 3 minutes every hour, will report. And, if anythin BIG comes along, we will interrupt the program. Then, I could do it, but I just cannot watch this anymore.
The more people see something horrible, the more immune to it they become. Think about the apathy about the films from Vietnam as opposed to the horror over the films of WWII. I will not allow myself to be become, if not accepting, immune to the terror that welled in me at the sight of that second plane hitting. My children will remember that, and I want them to remember it WAS and IS real.
So, I was wondering if anyone else thinks we should boycott TV and maybe we could get them to reign in their sensationalism. I want news, not rumors. I want timely news, not a reply of a video that will be etched in my mind forever. I am sending letters to the managers of the stations here and at least will now that I stood up for the rights of all the victims.

Re: TV Boycott?
I, too, am becoming tired of rumors and repetition and I personally don't care to see one more replay of the planes striking the towers or the mayhem that followed - it's just too much and I don't want to fall into a deep depression. While I'm not a big fan of boycots, we have chosen to be very selective in terms of how long we have the TV on. I can really relate to how you feel.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Re: TV Boycott?
I was very glad to see that starting Saturday night that the television stations had started going back to their regular programs. I have gotten to the point where I can no longer watch or listen to much more. Alot of the talk is now turning to war & commentators projecting what may or may not happen here in America. We are all going to be holding our breathes for awhile, waiting to see if & when the next "shoe falls" but we also need to start getting some normalcy back into our lives.

Re: TV Boycott?
The boycott started early in this house. Last Wednesday to be precise! I check in periodically to see if there are any breaking stories on CNN.com but that is it. My mother is back at her desk on Wall Street today so I know I'll be paying closer attention but I think if I had been watching these past few days that I would have been compelled to go down and try to physically restrain her to keep her from going in!

Re: TV Boycott?
I was afraid that maybe I was the only one feeling this way. I think the media needs to give us a break and report only new events that occur. Not only that, but last Thursday the radio station I listen to had on the editor of a New York newspaper who used to be a terrorist expert. She's written a book about biological terrorism and the station talked to her about this. She was so hysterical and alarming. I was really angry, we have just been attacked, brutally, yes, but let's get through this before we begin worrying about biological terrorism being next. Sometimes I think the media thinks they are being informative, but are really trying to make us panic. Just my 2 cents. Hope everyone is doing okay.
God Bless!

Re: TV Boycott?
I too have tried to avoid the news reports....But, I'm ashamed to admit...I feel like I have the "dead animal on the side of the road" syndrome....You know...when you pass by you just HAVE to look!!! -- That's how I've been...I so desperately want to not dwell on every horrible detail, and yet I find myself mesmorized in front of the tv one more time....

Re: TV Boycott?
I was so glued to CNN and channel 5 for Tues. and Wed. I was so raw from crying that I made myself stop. I only watched Nickelodeon and the Travel Channel til Sunday. Yes, I want to be informed. I want to know, but I couldn't function in my daily life with the same horrible picture being played over from every angle. You only need to see that once for it to be burned forever in your mind. I don't think there is anything to feel bad about if you change the channel. It's not healthy to keep seeing that.

Re: TV Boycott?
I stopped watching the TV shows yesterday. I could not sleep Saturday night. This whole thing just had my mind going around. Today, I just read the morning paper and checked CNN.com & Foxnews.com from work once this afternoon. That's enough.

Re: TV Boycott?
We haven't exactly "boycotted" per se, but the TV has remained off. We check CNN.com for updates, but that's it. I, like many of you, refuse to become "immune" to what happened last week. At this point, DH and I believe that too much information *can* be a bad thing.

Re: TV Boycott?
I agree whole heartedly, too much is too much. I admit that I get too wrapped up in it and will watch over and over and it is not healthy. I do think however, that the nation needed to see. We needed to see. If we didn't see the terror of it all, would we be so moved? We need to be moved.
We need to be moved to help and we need to be moved to stand behind our President.
I think the mission has been accomplished and I am ready to say that we don't need to see it again.
