Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I have a couple of ?\'s

First, is there a post office any where on property to mail a package back home? I was thinking of mailing some of my purchases back home to keep from having to make so much room in the suitcases.

Second, is it difficult to find Photopass photograhers to take your pictures around the parks?

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I don't know of any post office per se, but I have mailed packages home from the resort. The lobby concierge had fed ex forms and I just filled it out. It was pretty easy.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I'm pretty certain there isn't a post office on property, we go to one in Lake Buena Vista not far from DTD & there is another in Celebration.
There isn't usually any problem finding a Photopass photgraphers around the parks, they're in most "Key" areas of the parks & of course in the character meet & greets.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

My first trip in '05 I had a lot of pictures taken with Photopass. This year I only came across two Photopass cast members. One took our picture as we were leaving Magic Kingdom and the other was doing Mickey at Epcot. I thought it was really strange the there weren't more. Maybe we were just at the wrong place at the wrong time?
There were a lot of people taking your picture at Blizzard Beach! They would give you a bracelet with your picture ID on it, so if you kept taking them you'd have several on your arms. My husband was a bit annoyed that they kept asking you to pose, but I didn't mind because I didn't want to bring my camera to the water park.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

As far as sending purchases home: If it's a lot of stuff, or a big perchase, I always have the shop I bought it at send it on to the house. It costs a bit extra, but well worth it to sneak that special gift or the purchase I don't want DH to have time to go look at how much it cost home.

Good luck.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I remember there being a blue mail box inside Port Royale at Carribean beach where you could mail things already stamped. We sent several postcards home to family from there in 2004. This August we came across several photopass photographers in every park.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

My DS sent a large package of items he had purchased during the week to his girlfriend in England from a desk in the store at POP last year.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

If it is soemthing I purchased on property, I usually have it sent directly home from the stored (if its big, bulky, fragile, etc). I have mailed out letters and the Front Desk always took care of that for me at the Poly. I never mailed a package home. Good luck in your search!

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

If you buy things at World of Disney you can have them mail them home for you You will pay for postage but no taxes. So it is a little better then paying both.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I know that you can mail things via the Art of Disney store at Downtown Disney and, when you do, they postmark it with Tinkerbelle (very cute). Leastwise they did this with my Christmas cards. I'm not sure about parcels though. As for Photopass photographers you can find them scattered throughout the parks. In general they're usually to be found: just inside the front gates at Epcot, at the character greeting areas at the back of the World Showcase pavilions, in front of Cinderella Castle along Main Street, at the Toontown character greeting areas, along the main boulevard at MGM leading up to the Sorcerer's Hat, in front of the Tree of Life and on the character trails at Camp Minnie Mickey in the Animal Kingdom.

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I just read somewhere that Disney has changed it's pricing for shipping your purchases to your home, based on price paid rather than on weight (or some such nonesense), and it's become extremely costly - at least according to what I read...sorry I can't tell you exactly where I read it - but it was either here on the PassPorter boards or on AllEarsNet....

Re: I have a couple of ?\'s

I frequently ship packages from the shops when I am there. If you find numerous things you want and they are items you can find in other stores then you can make a list and get them all at once that way you are only shipping a one or a few packages home and saving money on the shipping. The shipping can be a little costly but to cut out not having enough room to carry things on a plane it is a great idea. You can also buy from one store and when you get all the items you bought together the last store you buy at should ship all the items together for you. We did this a few times when we were there in earlier this month.

As for Photopass photographers, if you check out your park maps you can find out where they are supposed to be. You will always find them in the front of the park. The other spots can be spotty on catching a photographer there. I would be looking for them but didn't see them. I had more luck w/ that last year. Good luck!!
