As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Need some cheering up......
My carefree summer days are over as of tonight!!!! Tomorrow I return to my second grade classroom to prepare it for the first day of school which is Aug. 22!!! This summer just flew, especially since I taught summer school for half of it! So I'm having mixed feelings right now. Half of me is excited to begin a new year and the other half wants a little more time off!! I'm so jealous of those of you who get to go to Disney in Sept. and Oct.!!! Think of me working hard while you are visiting the Mouse! Anyway, I need a little pixie dust to get in the mood to return to school!!!
Thanks!!

Here is a Pixie for your Pocket Disnygirl. When in need, take her out and let her dust away!
Good luck in setting up for your new school year! I do have to admit this summer has really gone fast.

Re: Need some cheering up......
Hi disnygirl-
I'm not a teacher, but a teacher aide and I know how you feel. I had one week off, then our summer school started and doesn't end until this Tuesday. I'll still be at school though because I also check in all the new supplies for the elementary school.
I am taking off from 8/30 until superintendent's day on 9/5 to go to Charlotte for my granddaughter's birthday!
The end of summer is a cause for sadness, but don't you get excited the beginning of each new school year? I always have high hopes for each and every one of those little darlings!

Take care-

Re: Need some cheering up......
I'm right there with ya, Disnygirl. We start the 17th and the students first day is the 23rd.
Although I am a little anxious to start the new year and meet my new little 6th graders, I'm not looking forward to being in my classroom. Our school doesn't have AC, and if you have heard anything about the Denver weather this summer, you have seen our daily temps well into the 90's almost every day.
To make things worse, my classroom is in the center of the school with no windows. The ventilation system pulls the air in off the tar roof. So what ever the temp is on the roof, is the temp in my room. Add the hot, stinky air with 45-55 kids per class, by 3:40 it's unbearable.
So, those of you who are going to be in WDW on 9/23, pleaaaase eat a Mouseketeer Bar for me!

Re: Need some cheering up......
Disnygirl,
I'm sending some pixie dust to you and all the other teachers out there! I hope you all have a great year!! My sister just found out last week that she has a job teaching kindergarten at the school where my nieces go. She starts tomorrow also! She just graduated from college this past May. I have to say, she is both excited and SCARED!! Here's some irony for you...my 6th grade teacher is now my father-in-law. So, keep in mind you never know WHO you are going to be teaching!
Good luck!
Nicki

Re: Need some cheering up......
Here's lots of Pixie Dust your way to All
the teachers. Just think of the wonderfull
ways you get to make a difference in those
Children's lives. And the Reward it is
when they give you a hug or finally catch
on to what you are teaching. Good Luck
to you. I know it's hard to leave summer
behind.
Those of you that are teachers you are special people.

Re: Need some cheering up......
I knew I could count on you guys to send warm wishes!!! Don't get me wrong, I love my job, I'm just not quite ready for summer to end. What's even better is last year I taught 1st grade with the understanding that I would take them to 2nd grade with me, so I will have most of the same students as last year. It makes the beginning of the year much less stressful!!! Have a Disney Day!!!

Re: Need some cheering up......
Our school district started school on August 8th. My son has already been in school of 4 days. My daughter started kindergarten today. Talk about going back early!!! They do, of course, get out on May 24, so we get an early jump on summer. The teachers were back in school the last week in July .

Re: Need some cheering up......
Hidden Mickey,
I would think that your kids would get out even earlier than May 24. We go back the 21 and get out May 31. But I suppose every state has different requirements.

Re: Need some cheering up......
Disnygirl,
I know how you feel.I teach 3rd and 4th grade. I start back on Sept.5 and I have mixed feelings too. I am excited to start a new year and get back to decorating my room, but at the same time I know that my freedom is almost gone. No more late nights out and two days a week off(my summer job is only Tues,Wed, Thurs). I bet once you are back you will be glad. I'm sure you know that we are in the most noble profession of all and that our kids need us! Good luck and have a great school year!
