As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

anyone own a Canon SD600 elph?
My canon powershot A70 isn't working and I've been looking at cameras. I want to stick with canon and have been considering the powershot SD600 digital elph. I was looking at another model, more like my A70 (maybe a 560, I can't remember ). It has AA batteries and is a lot bigger than the elph. (The elph has lithium battery, rechargable). Both are 6 megapixels. I can actually get the elph for a little cheaper with a best buy coupon. Any thoughts?

Re: anyone own a Canon SD600 elph?
I have the SD600. I love it for its compact size. My previous camera was an APS elph of the same size and I don't think I could have gone to a larger camera. I'm still figuring out the bells and whistles but am very pleased with the pictures I've gotten with just the basics.

Re: anyone own a Canon SD600 elph?
I have the A70 and it's dying, and I'm considering an Elph too! Dan's work has an Elph (not sure if it's the SD600) and we borrowed it when we went on our summer holidays in July. It took wonderful pictures and was so easy to use, very similar to the simpleness of the A70. It has an image stabilizer and I took a few great pictures from the window of our car when Dan was driving 80 mph The battery charged quickly and lasted a surprisingly long time. Something I liked about it was that the dial to switch modes was a little stiffer to spin than the dial on my A70. That dial is the one and only thing I despise about my A70 and quite often my pictures don't turn out because the dial has spun and changed the setting without my noticing.
I also love how well-equipped it is considering how compact a camera it is.

Re: anyone own a Canon SD600 elph?
Thanks.
Donna, does your A70 get the purply streaks on the LCD screen? If so, I got a good hint on the boards (I think from mestitch if I'm not mistaken), to hit the side of it. It does work after bopping it with your hand. I don't mind doing that around the house, but not so good when on vacation.
I agree with the dial on the A70, it was really my only complaint. The SD600 doesn't have a dial on top like that, you have to go into a menu if you want to change from the auto feature, which I'm not sure if I'll like, but then I rarely used anything other than the auto. The macro feature is a button though.
I think I'm going to have a hard time getting used to not having that curvy piece on the front to hold onto if I get the elph. It was such a comfortable camera.

Re: anyone own a Canon SD600 elph?
I have the Elph SD500 and love it. I have an Elph before with the Advantix film then when Digital's came out I went with a Sony. Now that I upgraded to a newer Digital, I was so glad to be back with Cannon as I am used to their features and the size can't be beat.

Yep, it gets purply streaks! And black streaks. And they are very fast, if that makes any sense. Dan gave me heck for whapping the side of my camera though, and it didn't make it any better anyway.
I asked Dan what his work Elph was and it's a SD700. I don't know how different that is from the SD600, but I do know that I didn't miss that curvy part at all when I was using the Elph. It is a different feel, but it's honestly not something that I felt that I needed. I really really like the Elph and if my money tree in the back yard ever ripens, I'd be buying one for myself in a New York minute!!

I got the SD450 Elph for Christmas and love it. The pictures are great and has lots of bells and whistles.

My money tree has but a few bills left on it, but I decided I needed the camera! I had a best buy reward zone coupon and got 12% off plus had 70.00 worth of gift cards and reward dollars, plus memory card was on sale for 25.00 plus 10% off coupon, so I got the camera and memory card for 250.00 - saving over 100.00. I haven't opened it yet, I think I may go and do a search about cameras first.
Thanks everyone for your input, I feel better about the splurge. Maybe I can sell my memory cards on ebay. I did a search and people are selling them and the broken cameras (getting about 12-15.00 for them). Every little bit helps bring the cost down. I just wish that darn camera wouldn't have broken right now.
P.S. Donna, I did have to whack it pretty hard, my first gentle whack didn't do it.

Oh my gosh, what size was your memory card?
You were able to take enought pictures with the battery each day and just charge it at night? I'm a little nervous about only having one battery. I'm getting excited to start using it, but I'll have to wait, we're having relatives arrive Tues. night and we've been on a cleaning frenzy, ha! Then we'll be entertaining...oh it's hard to wait to crack open that box!
