As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My DBIL took advantage of a SW ding for their upcoming trip (in 3 weeks). He is thrilled he won't have to make the long drive. But this puts my DSIL in a bind. One minor issue is that DSIL had to add another day to their reservation - that was the easy part. Now she needs to find transportation from MCO to Universal, then from Universal to WDW, then WDW to MCO. Easy, right??? Wrong - My DBIL thinks his last name is Rockefeller . He doesn't want to use the free rental car they are getting from their package with Universal, and he's decided that he really doesn't want to use Magical Express (why, something about inconvenient pickup time - I think he's just whacky) So my poor SIL is getting quotes from Transporation services (Quicksilver/Tiffany/Mears) and she's getting quotes around $135 for the MCO-Universal-Disney-MCO transport.
The whole reason (originally) they were flying was because it worked out to be about the same cost as driving (with the food stops and overnight hotel stops). Now with the extra transport cost and the extra night at WDW - she's looking at spending more than if they had stuck with their original plans.
Anyone have any suggestions on an option she may not have come up with? Or do you have any convincing arguements that are in favor of using the rental car (it's Enterprise - how easy was it to pick up/drop off the car). With her free rental, they could pick up the car at MCO and drop it off about a mile outside of Disney, and Enterprise would take them by shuttle to WDW. If you have had a good or bad rental car experience - please share so I can either steer my DSIL away or give her ammo to convince my (pain in the neck)BIL
Thank goodness my DH is not like his brother (Unlike his brother, my DH realizes that FREE is a good price)

Until I started using town cars, Mears was always a very convenient, inexpensice option, I used them to and from MCO, to Seaworld, Universal / IOA and even Busch Gardens
Maybe that with the rental car - he'll have the control of when and where they go? I don't know how you could pass up the free rental car.
DH wanted to do a towncar for our upcoming trip too . . . thing is, we need to get from WDW to Naples for a few days and then find a way back. He kept wanting to use TTC - saying how much for them to drive us to Naples (where we'll have use of a car) . . . how crazy is that?
I (just now, in fact) booked a convertible through the American Express web site for 8 days at $185 (including taxes and fees)! He'll just have to wait and use TTC on another trip!
I don't know what to say My mouth is open. I don't know anyone that doesn't understand the meaning of FREE>>>
Sometimes men (sorry guys) have to SEE things in black & white. Tell her to write down the figures in two collumns. Letting him see if we do this...it cost this $$...if we do it this way...it will cost THIS $$$! Be sure to itemize each item.
Maybe John Rockefeller Trump will wake up! Tell DSIL to stop worrying & try to relax. I've seen it before..he will Still be out there spending money & she will be in the hospital with back, neck, stomach & arm pains all from STRESS! Good Luck!
Is Enterprise one of the ones on-site at MCO? We rented from Alamo and it was fast and easy. We love having a rental car, especially with an idiosyncratic travel schedule. Just get a good map of Orlando to use, and he'll be fine. (Or you could go to mapquest.com and get the directions printed out--I did both on our trip.) We didn't find Orlando THAT hard to get around, especially the routes we had mapquest for. If he's a control-freak type (am I extrapolating there??), nothing beats a rental car IMO. However, do keep in mind there are then parking fees to include. We had an AP so got free parking at the Disney parks.
Good luck!
No advice, sorry Betty!!! I just hope everything works out!!!! Why doesn't he want to use the free rental car? Check the car rental sticky thread-- is Enterprise in the terminal??? Or do you have to do a shuttle? My husband won't do a rental via shuttle (we did it in Hawaii, and it was a little bit of a pain) I don't usually do rental cars (my husband doesn't like to drive in cities he doesn't know-- I think he's getting comfortable enought with Orlando now though-- anyway)-- when we went to Disney with Luv4my4, they got a rental, and it was in terminal, and let me tell you, it couldn't have been easier.

Because he is a knucklehead and he thinks his last name is Trump

I believe my SIL said that they have to take a shuttle to get their car. I'll pass on your advice about the ease of renting if it's in the terminal! Thanks

We find good deals/codes on Mousesavers website for Alamo. We had to plug in several different codes into the Alamo website to figure out which one was best for us. Then we registered with Alamo in advance. After collecting our bags we walked right over to the Alamo part of the garage and picked out our car. We bypassed the counter totally. We had a midsize SUV for around $135 including tax and fees for 7 days. Good luck.
We always rent a car for our whole stay at WDW because it's so much easier to control our own transportation than to be at the mercy of the buses. I would highly suggest taking advantage of a free rental car & keeping it for the trip, or just renting one for the duration. It would just be so much easier to be able to come & go as you please & not have to worry about someone else scheduling your pick-ups and drop-offs...you end up with less waiting around & more vacation time.

That is one great rate, Lorie. Will keep that in mind, we're starting to look now, and I'm not seeing comparable deals to the one we got this past May. I also did the form on line for a recent National rental, and it was soooo much better to do it at leisure rather than at the airport with kids, luggage, and everyone behind me in line waiting...
