As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

unDISCOVERED future world tour help
My wife bought me a "undiscovered future world" tour for my B-Day for an upcoming Disney trip. Has anyone been on this tour? How was it? I am going to be going by myself since she does not enjoy all the backstage stuff like I do. I also thought about trading tthis for the "keys to the Kingdom" tour, and just have her meet me for lunch that is provided with the tour. Not sure what I should do. i'm always talking for her, but i think joy j did this one and i don't think she was that favorable towards it to be honest.
it also must have changed recently because i believe part of it was going behind the scenes of body wars. i haven't read any recent reports on it so i'm not sure how it differes nowadays.
the K2TK tour however is by all accounts amazing.

oldest DD and I did this tour last year. I'm a bit of an Epcot nut, so I really looked forward to it. You do get to see quite a bit backstage, but some of the areas are a bit "abandoned" (the old Imagination play area, for instance, kind sad [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] ) It was really cool getting to see the control room of Mission Space and the VIP lounge at the Living Seas (if money were no object... [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]) There is a LOT of walking. We had a short snack break (buy your own food at the Land) and there was a water break toward the end when you get to visit with an international CM. We were able to use the VIP entrance for Test Track, which was [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img], but I understand that nothing is a given as far as riding things.

I have done this one and KTTK. I liked KTTK better, but both were neat to do. I'm not sure if your wife could join you for lunch or not on KTTK. It is held in a privately set up area of Columbia Harbour House and "touring" is still going on through questions and answers, so it is part of the paid tour in that respect.

We've done both this and Keys to the Kingdom and loved them both. I would go for the one in your favourite park. Epcot is our favourite park, which is why this was the first backstage tour we ever did and I think if you love the park, you'll enjoy the tour all the more. You can't go wrong with either though. As Brad mentioned, I did the Undiscovered Future World tour and found it to be extremely disappointing. We didn't ride anything and it was more like just following someone around while they spouted off facts and figures. I've done most of Disney's behind the scenes tours and this one was my least favorite by far. So much so in fact that I complained to Disney about it and they did end up giving us a full refund. The Keys to the Kingdom tour is very good but in my opinion, the best tour by a country mile is the Backstage Safari tour at Animal Kingdom. You get to go places and do things (like pet a white rhino) that most guests never get to experience.

We did the UnDiscovered Futureworld tour in November and thought it was great. By the sounds of it we had a better tour guide than Joy did [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] We were offered a ride on Mission: Space (nobody rode [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]) and a ride on Test Track (we all rode [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] ) We saw the Illuminations pontoons up-close as well as the M:S control room. We both love Epcot so I think that's maybe what swayed it for us [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

The barges are stored back stage. They were being re-loaded with fireworks when we saw them. The globe was being tested too. At the end of the tour we were told that we would be allowed into the reserved area opposite the Italy pavillion to watch Illuminations [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

were you allowed to bring the rest of your party with you to the reserved area to watch the fireworks or was it only for the people that went on the tour. Was it worth it to go to the reserved area or can you find better viewing areas. I only ask because I don't believe the Fantasmic dinner pkg. viewing area at MGM is worth while. If you get to the show a little bit earlier you can get much better seats then they have reserved for the Pkg.
Just my two cents worth of info.

On the night we did this, they had a rope up sectioning off the area and had a CM manning the rope. He had a clipboard with a list on it and if your name was not on the list, he did not let you in. He turned away a lot of guests while we were waiting for IllumiNations to start.

MarkC & I took the tour, but they let all four of us into the roped of area [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I just asked the CM if my parents were allowed in too.

Loved KTTK but be prepared for a long day's walk. our 4 hour tour turned into 4 hours 45min due to all the people asking questions. We love the insights and lunch was terrific, but we were ready to stop before the tour was!
