As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Buying shorts in January
Okay...here's the situation. After the pain my feet endured on my January trip last year, I joined Weight Watchers. I'm now down 50 pounds and I've gone from a 26 or 28 to a size 20 in jeans. Obviously, many of my clothes are too big now.
Luckily, I found a box of my old skinny shorts, but most of them are size 16. I may or may not fit into them by January of 2003.
My question is, would I be able to find shorts possibly at the Belz Outlet mall in January? I live in Wisconsin and I'm pretty certain that finding shorts here at that time of year would be next to impossible. I obviously don't want to spend too much, since with any luck, the shorts will be way too big for me by next summer. But, the fact remains that I will need something for the 10 days I'm in Florida. I will also need a new swimsuit, since I'm guessing my 2X will be pretty baggy by then.
Who knows...packing might become really light if all my clothes are too big by then! But I do need to know if I'll definitely be able to find shorts.

Re: Buying shorts in January
As it gets closer to your trip, start looking online for sales at Land's End, LLBean, and other companies that sell swimsuits and shorts year-round. -HiddenMickey

Re: Buying shorts in January
Actually there's alot of stuff on sale right now in the "outlet" part of Lands' End and Eddie Bauer. I usually wait until September or October when everything goes on sale to buy new stuff. Every few weeks or so Eddie Bauer also has a week or two where they take an additional 30% off on top of the sale price. I've gotten $50.00 sandals for $10. or $15., blouses, shorts, etc for about the same as well. Both of these sites have "women's" sizes.

Re: Buying shorts in January
Congratulations on your weight loss! I was going to say the same thing as Hidden Mickey! LLBean and LandsEnd will have both shorts and bathing suites. I know the bathing suites may seem a little pricey, but they are definately worth it. The quality is great and they have styles to fit every figure. Keep us posted on your weight loss too!

Re: Buying shorts in January
Perhaps you can purchase a few pairs of shorts now that are cotton and maybe have an elastic waist. That way, as your weight fluctuates, there is room for adjustment. In my opinion, shorts with a fitted waist don't look too hot if they are too big. Elastic waist tends to hang straight down and therefore gives you room to adjust without it being obvious.
My weight has fluctuated alot this past year (spinal surgery, lack of exercise, bloating from steroids, etc) and I have stuck with elastic waist EVERYTHING! When I have lost weight, they didn't fall down; when I got bloated, didn't have to buy bigger.

Re: Buying shorts in January
See....I pretty much don't buy anything these days without trying it on, which pretty much disqualifies a lot of the websites.
Plus I'm kind of in the situation where if I buy stuff now, there's no guarantee that it will fit me right coe January.
I also don't want to pay a whole bunch of money for the stuff since as soon as I get back home, it's probably going to go in the consignment shop pile.
So....which malls would be good for shorts shopping? We're staying on IDrive for the first few days so we have access to the Iride Trolley.

Re: Buying shorts in January
When on our most recent trip to WDW (January 2002)
It was never below 80 degrees. We were expecting cooler weather and we didn't pack enough shorts. Everyone ended up going to WalMart and Belz to get inexpensive shorts, since we didn't want to blow our entire vacation budget. There were plenty to chose from. All of us in our group of 8 were pleased with the selection. Hope this helps. Have a great time...January is the best time of year to visit WDW.

Re: Buying shorts in January
Wow, congratulations!
I live in Houston which has a similar climate to Central FL and we can buy shorts here all year 'round. I'm thinking there's going to be an even better selection at a vacation hot spot like Orlando. I've been to WDW in January before, and even if it's kind of coolish in the morning, it'll warm up to mid-70s - 80° by afternoon.
Have fun!

Re: Buying shorts in January
Congrats on your weight loss!
After living in FL for nine years (four in Miami, five in Jacksonville), there's one thing I've found out...you can get shorts down here anytime of year. Most notably in Target. Other stores have them also, but you may have to hunt them out a bit. Definitely check the outlet malls also, as some should turn up there also.

Re: Buying shorts in January
Well....my next question would be....is there a Target or Walmart conveniently located along the Iride trolley route on Intl Drive?

Re: Buying shorts in January
Steph W. FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS. I have lost 22-lbs since May 1st I agree that it would be best to buy clothes in Florida. Sometimes the Internet does give pretty good measurements. I don't know how Blair does but I have always been happy with their clothes and not had too many problems. AGAIN GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CONTINUED WEIGHT LOSS I KNOW HARD IT IS.
