Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

No tables for 8?!?!?
I called Disney today to make an ADR at Donald's Breakfast on Sunday, 12/3/06 for our party of 8. I was told "I have 2 tables of 4" and something about the way she said it made me ask "well, that's ok - they're together, right?" and she said "no" She said they can't guarantee that they'll be together - they will certainly try when we get there, but to cover themselves, and so there is no ruckus at the restauarant, they can't guarantee it.
She asked if we wanted to check another day, but I said no, thanks, as that would mean I'd have to change EVERYTHING around.
Should I just try again and see if I get a "different" respose from another rep? Would they really NOT put our 2 tables of 4 together when we get there?
The kids (and the rest of us) were soooo looking forward to eating there again.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
This past trip i wanted a party of 6 at WCC and got told they could do a table of 2 and a table of 4 and they wanted to split us up at the restuarant but Jana had gotten there early to ask about that and they put us on the wait list as "walk ups" as it was the only way to get all 6 of us together. otherwise our reservations were going to be split.
I'd keep checking as maybe a table for 8 will open up. I wouldn't count on them being able to seat you together.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
We always ask for tables of at least six and more times than not are told that we will not be seated together. We have never been seated apart even after they said that.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
When did this start? When we did the girls trip last year, I know we had at least 2 reservations for 8 and we were at 1 table under 1 reservation. Is it just certain restaurants? Or is this saying that the tables that seat a lot are already reserved??

It does depend on the restaurant, and also on how many reservations already exist at a given time. At non-buffet restaurants any table larger than eight usually must be reserved through Group Dining, and in some cases six is the upper limit. Most of the buffet restaurants can take "groups" up to as many as 18 or 20 without going through Group Dining, IF you reserve far enough in advance, and if you have either a very early or very late seating. They don't have many "dedicated" tables for eight in any case. It gives them more flexibility when making reservations. They then give the "we can seat you at two tables" spiel. Generally when you arrive at the restaurant they'll be able to push the tables together, but they don't want to be committed to that in advance.
Again, best bets are early or late seatings, whether they're willing to give you a table for eight, or if you're hoping to have your two tables combined into one table when you get there.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
We've got to ressies for 9 next month -- at Liberty Tree at 7 pm and LeCellier at 12:50 pm -- and I didn't have any problems making either ressie for one table.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
Our last trip, there were 8 of us, and we were told that there was the possibility of being seperated. We arrived at each place earlier than stated, and were sometimes given the choice :seat 6 and 2 or 4 & 4 or wait a bit longer for a table for 8. We usually waited, but not always.

Yup, what Dave said Not all restaurants can accomodate 8 at a table, and otherwise it just depends on availability.
Of course, the restaurant will always do their best to get you seated close together if you're at 2 tables, but it's just a matter of what tables *they* have available at the time you get there.
As far as Group Dining, as far as I have seen thus far, the upper limit is *usually* 13 that we can book (one exception that stands out in my mind is Wolfgang Puck at DTD, for which parties of 10+ go to GD). But again, just b/c we can book 13 folks w/out going to Group doesn't mean that we have 1 table for everyone

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
I didn't get to what time I was requesting actually. I was simply told 'sorry, we can't accommodate a group of 8 at one table on that day'. I don't have a problem being at 2 tables, but am hesitant now thinking that we may be on 2 sides of the restaurant. It's kinda big in there!
We had a party of 7 last time we at there, and did sit at one table.
Should I take my chances? We're going at a "slow" time (first week of December) and I guess that's another reason why I was surprised at the response.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
I wouldn't worry, I've been told that several times on the phone with a dining operator. However, they really don't know the seating arrangements at the restaurants, and when we arrived we were seated together.

I have a friend whose flight got screwed up and they wanted to break up her family of 5. She told the FA to seat the children on their own and she'd give the diaper bag to their seat mate. The FA fixed it.

First week of December isn't as slow as it used to be. I'm expecting that some year soon it will become Regular Season instead of Value.
The only time they'd seat you across the room from each other is if you insist on being seated right away. As long as you're willing to wait a bit longer (and especially if you check-in earlier), they should be able to get you together or very close by.

Re: No tables for 8?!?!?
I think I will go ahead and make the reservation and "take my chances". I'll be sure that we're early AND mention that we don't mind waiting a bit longer to be assured to be seated together - thanks!!
