Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

Haven't done this yet, but plan to do it on our upcoming trip.

On another site someone offered to send out postcards to the children of anyone who requested it. My son got one on Saturday and it lit up his face so much that I just knew I had to pass it on to someone else. I decided as a random act of kindness to send postcards to welcome little ones to the World.

I have 5 requests so far. Will accept up to 10 so if anyone here would like for their child to receive a postcard from disney just e-mail me with their name, address, favorite characters, and the month when they will be in the World. If your child has already gone and you would like a post card from disney thanking them for visiting you can email me too.

Please be sure to let me know what month you will be there/or have been there. I need five more but if I get a few extra that's okay, too.

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

Fun topic!!! We definitely do the picture thing, although DH gets embarassed if I ask someone to take our picture (trauma I'm sure ). And, thank you to all those who get up for the parents with the sleeping child in their arms (after first WDW trip with DD--I GREATLY appreciated this) . On this past trip, a little girl at the next table was enthralled with Peyton. She played with her while we were all waiting for our dinners and ROE. We had a dessert sent to her to thank her. We've also done and been the recipients of the fastpass thing and have enjoyed both ends.

I think this next trip I'll see how much Disney magic I can notice, spread and just be a part of in general!

Thanks for reminding me what it's all about!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

This is something that I do whenever I play skee ball.

At Disney, I like ot hit the gameroom at the Contemporary. I collect my tickets and at the end, I give them to a "well-behaved" child that is also collecting them. I always make sure that I ask the parents if it is ok to give the child my tickets before doing so. I love to see the face of the child light up when they see how many tickets the have for that "prize" that they are saving for in the case. The "prizes" are always too cheezy for adults anyway so why not make the day of a little one.

I do this on the boardwalk in Jersey as well. I always seek out the family that seems to have been playing for hours in search of the "right" amount of tickets to get the prize.

We also take pictures for others, hold the doors going in and out of buildings, hold the elevator, give up our seats for the elderly or parent with child, give away unused Fastpasses, and let children move in front of us while watching the parades.

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

At least once every trip, we will anonymously pay for a dinner for a family with small children. We had someone do this to us once on a vacation when we were first starting out and I will never forget it! There is no better place to pass this on.

Tara, that is just about the coolest thing I've seen on this thread. I love it and we're going to start doing it too. That is just fabulous!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

This past visit (two weeks ago ) I found myself in line at Peco's Bill for lunch. Well there was a mom and her little girl(say 6yrs old) in front of me. Well she kept on looking at my lanyard with all my pins on it, including my passporter pin, and kept looking, and kept looking. She had the biggest brown eyes I've ever seen. I finally asked her who her favorite character was and she says "Cinderalla". Well I had a Cinderella pin on my lanyard, took it off and gave it to her and she put it on her shirt.....She was so excited, she told me it was her first pin! I told her happy collecting!
It made my day!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

We usually do most of the things mentioned above, take pictures for families, let those who need seats take ours, give away unused fast passes, and let little kids in front of us at parades. We also have been on the receiving end of acts of kindness. Twice I was given unused tickets to the parks by people who were checking out and said that they would not be returning. These were passes that they had been given for business trips and they had not used them during the conferences. (imagine!) With three kids, this was a great gift!

Chrissi--that is one of the most wonderful things I've ever heard. What an incredibly beautiful gesture!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

It seemed silly to just throw it all away. (DH gets enough hair cut off each time to make a small animal. ) Besides, everyone likes to go on vacation with a new haircut and manicure. If we're going to go to all that trouble to look nice in some goofy vacation photos, the least we can do is make sure the hair doesn't go to waste when those kids appreciate it so much!

BTW - any reputable salon will wait until you tell them how short you want your hair before asking if you want to make a donation of hair. They never want you to feel like you have to get your hair cut shorter than you want. If you know about the program it's always okay to speak up when you make your appointment. It saves time in prep work that way, too. They have a special cape for you to wear so none of the hair is lost and a bag that it must go into, be labelled, etc.

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

When I go to the bathroom and see a mom with a small child I offer to keep an eye on the child, so the mom can go to the bathroom without the fear of her child "taking off without her".

Hopefully I'll be able to go to the restroom all by myself this next trip to WDW!!! Hopefully dh will be busy with our three sons in the bathroom with HIM!!

Re: Random Acts of Disney Kindness....

This is something we do before we go on any vacation. It became a ritual on our first trip together. We get haircuts. How is that magical, you ask?

Walt and I both have long hair. Walt's is waist-length. We have 6-12 inches cut the day before we leave and ask the salon to donate it to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a non-profit that makes natural-hair wigs for children undergoing cancer-treatment therapies that cause them to lose their hair.

We started doing this when we went for haircuts before a weekend trip to VA in '98 for a friend's engagement party. The salon we went to asked if we knew about Locks of Love and we were hooked. I get mine cut annually because it grows so fast and DH lets his grow really long between trips so he can donate really long hair for a wig for a little girl. (Isn't he sweet?)
