As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: DVC members testimonials
Congratulations of your purchase! Which resort did you buy into?
You know, I don't think I've ever heard someone say they regretted their purchase...usually it is.."why did we wait so long?".
We don't own in DVC but are timeshare holders at Hilton Head Island with Marriott (floating time). Our decision to buy there was based on the number of trips we've taken there over the years and our continued interest in doing so, and the wonderful property that we own at....we don't intend (at least in the next several years) to trade our week in for a trip anywhere else. The key to happy ownership is knowing that you'll use and enjoy the property you buy. As much as we love WDW, we decided not to look into buying there because over time, we really didn't think we'd use it every year (like we will at HHI).
Am I making sense? -HiddenMickey

Re: DVC members testimonials
Take a hop over to the "Adventure Reports" thread of these boards. Then look up my first stay as a DVC member titled "No one was arrested, nothing was broken" and "No one was arrested........" reports.

Re: DVC members testimonials
We love DVC! Bought 150 points at Boardwalk after our first trip in 1999, went back last fall and stayed in a 1-bedroom and it was HEAVEN! We took a friend with us, he slept on the fold-out sofa in the living room and we had plenty of room. This summer we did a lot of planning and talking, ended up buying another 150 points at Old Key West. And we don't regret a single point.
There are a lot of nice things about DVC, but the best thing for us is that in a way, it forces you to take a nice vacation at least every couple of years. We tend to be very conservative with our money, so I don't think we would be going to Disney World for the 3rd year in a row if we had to pay for a hotel room every time. But with points, it's like the room is already paid for and we sure don't want to let our points go to waste!
We're on a DVC e-mail list that you might want to check out. Some of these people have been in DVC since the beginning and are a great resource if you have any questions. The address to subscribe is:

DVC members testimonials
Hi guys! I just got back from WDW and had a great time. We signed up to be DVC members. We are so excited about it but would like to hear a couple of examples that you guys have had with your trips as DVC members with experience. Was it really worth it? Do you regret it now that you are signed on? IF anyone would like to share with us your experiences with DVC-Im-a-listnin'! Trip report soon to follow...

Re: DVC members testimonials
We joined in January 1999 and our only regret is not having joined sooner. We bought 200 points at the Boardwalk (BWV) and then an additional 50 points at the Wilderness Lodge (WLV) this past February. We've stayed in a one bedroom at both the BWV and Old Key West (OKW) and while they're both lovely, we do like OKW better for a few reasons. The first being that the villas are alot larger, the second is the amazing property...so beautiful, very spread out (to some this is a disadvantage, we love it ) Thirdly, it costs less points to stay at OKW for the same period of time than it does for the BWV or the WLV. Since we like to stay for 12-14 days it works out better for us to stay at OKW. We are anxious, however, to try the WLV since going on the tour before we purchased the points there...it really is beautiful.
The advantage with the BWV is the close proximity to Epcot - just a quick walk. And it's also fun to be right there at the Boardwalk with so much to do - not to mention a pretty close trek to Disney/MGM Studios as well.
Really, it's all about personal taste. Tour each property if you can on your next visit and see for yourself which you'd like to try next
Bottom line - you've made a great choice and I think you'll really enjoy it. Welcome to the family!
Peace, love & ºoº

Re: DVC members testimonials
We are making our first trip in 4 days as DVC members. I don't have much insight yet, probably just more of the same questions you asked. But, I will say, we took the tour 4 years ago and thought it looked like a great idea. So we saved and purchased only when we didn't have to borrow money (DH won't pay interest).
I hate to sound like a capitalist, but, following the Sept. 11 tragedy, the resale lists got longer and the prices got better. So we bought in a point prices that were available 4 or 5 years ago. But buying resale we also paid a closing fee and were not able to utilize the buy back bonus. However, with the banked points we were able to use this year, we still came out ahead of buying through Disney (and we wanted BWV which are sold out anyway).
Our points are at BWV but they were booked up so we are booked at the OKW for one week, totaly on points. We actually made this reservation only two weeks ago and were able to get in. We then transfer over to BC for a week as a cash customer.
I have done a lot of research on this and while it certainly isn't for everyone and it is not a "money maker" the few people I have heard complaining seem to be those that don't understand the system and ultimately don't utilize their points to their full potential.
Anway, we will find out how it works in 4 days! I already want to buy some points at the VBC, are they pre-selling yet?

Re: DVC members testimonials
We bought into DVC last December - 200 points at VWL. We made our first trip on points last week, doing the 4 day cruise. Although the flexibility of the points is a selling point, I have a hard time imagining us using them anywhere other than WDW or DCL. Although we financed the points, I'm not at all sorry we signed up. We've stayed at OKW several times, I'm sure you'll love it!!
