As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
Ok, Ok, I finally took theadvice and made a ADR for R&C at 7:30 on 4/23. I did this because EVERYONE on every site says this is the best place for illuminations....BUT is it worth eating at ?.. I quote from passporter "meat pie, bangers and mash, yorkshire pudding......" what is this stuff? Is it good? Because I also have an ADR at Marrakesh the same night(which I loved on a previous trip) and I will need to cancel one as it gets closer. I don't guess I have ever had English food.
Please help, I dont want to go for the view, end up not getting a table outside, and the food being bad to boot.
I only ask this because no one who has done this speaks of the food just the view.

I like the food. Fish and Chips is a family favorite. If you are worried check out the menus at

The inside view doesn't stink either! We love the food there anyways!

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
Dave and I love the food at Rose and Crown (but then I love all things British!). I always get the fish and chips, which is delicious. Dave has tried the meat pies in the past and loved them, especially the chicken and leek pie. This time I think he may get the chicken pasty. I guess it depends on what you like. This is good "pub grub", not fancy food, but there is plenty of it and it's very good.

I love the R&C's menu. Don't overlook the appetizers. There is a cheese plate that has cheeses from 5 different counties. And, if you're lucky, your wait person will tell you about each one.
I love both the view and the food. (but I go for the food)

Fish & Chips is our only "must-do" meal.

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
I'm afraid I have to be the sole dissenting voice here when it comes to the overall quality of the food at the Rose and Crown. Although the view of IllumiNations from the patio is stunning, the food is worse than mediocre. We tried this restaurant on two separate occasions to give it the benefit of the doubt when our first meal here was a disaster but, for the most part, on the second time around it was even worse. In fact, my husband actually got very sick to his stomach after eating here (he had their roast chicken) and declared he would never eat there again. Among all the members of my family, we have tried quite a few of their dishes and the only ones I would recommend are the fruit and cheese plate appetizer and the steak and prawns entree. Perhaps you might want to consider having an early dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh and then making a later ADR for just dessert and coffee at the Rose and Crown in the hopes of getting a coveted patio table.

I've got to say that it's not genuine English food - it's a good attempt, don't get me wrong, but it's not the real deal.
Meat pie, bangers and mash are very traditional English foods - and I love Yorkshire pudding. That's something well worth trying. As others have said, it's not fancy food, it's pub grub. Give it a go - and see what you think of it - and then be sure to book a trip over here to try out the real thing!

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
Thanks guys. I still am afraid though. I see on the menu they also have a steak and prawns, since we are on the dining plan I am not afraid to order the most expensive meal, and I could just get a steak.

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
If you're not sure if you will like the food there, try our favorite of fish and chips from the counter service menu. We love this for lunch and sit out on the patio under the trees. Very nice! Then you can decide if you want to try some other items on the full inside menu for dinner, and cancel whichever reservation you want to.

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
My dh and I ate there in December for our Candlelight Processional package. It was his first, my second. We both found the food excellent! He had a potato soup for starters, and the Fish-n-chips. He loved it!!
I had the Mushroom Ragout for starters and the steak and fish for my dinner. The mushrooms were to die for but the steak wasn't very good, or I was too full after eating the fish! For some reason, the steak and prawns weren't on the menu that night.
It was a great meal because it had been a gift from our niece!!
Oh, we got a side order of the Yorkshire pudding. R&C's isn't nearly as good as the homemade ones I enjoyed while in England in 2000. Ben didn't enjoy them at all.

Re: Rose and crown for the food or just the view?
We love the food. The cheese plate, as mentioned, is wonderful. I always get fish and chips (huge order-can be shared) because I love there way of fixing it. My son loves the shepard pie. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the desserts.

I totally agree that the fish and chips from the counter service place beside Rose and Crown is delicious but it's not really a good indicator of the quality of the food at the R and C as it is not cooked in the same place. The counter service place cooks their own menu items. I'm not sure but I think the counter service establishment is called something like Yorkshire County Fish and Chips or something like that.
