As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Though DH wants me to plan a European trip, I'm pretty sure I can rope him into a 2006 WDW long weekend and was thinking the F&WF should arouse his interest. I was wondering when/how/if ppl like this month. I'm mostly concerned with pricing, but even moreso---hurricane season. Is it too risky this month? I'd also book us for MSNSHP, of course, but looking at allearsnet.com, some of the F&WF festivities (wine pairings, et al.) sell out fast. Are there any Must-Do's for the F&WF? We're both "into" festivities, but he's more into the F, and I'm more into the W.
Would you share your thoughts on your own experiences about WDW in October.
We went the first week of October (1-9) and it was a lot of fun. I have to say that the only downside to going during this week is that it rained EVERY DAY!! We tried to not let it spoil our fun. We put on ponchos and continued on. It did make it a bit difficult trying to keep a 3 year old and stroller dry but we did okay. We were able to get the free dining plan and we saved all of our snack credits and used them at the food booths. It was great and we saved a lot of money doing this.
We go every year in October. We go on my son's fall break which is usually the 3rd week of October. The crowds seem to be getting a little bigger each year during that week but it is completely manageable and mostly crowded on the weekends. We love the Food and Wine Festival. We always take a night to just go over and eat at the different booths and catch some of the concerts. Unfortunately, we don't do the other festivities because we have a seven year old that we couldn't take along. I am sure you both would have a great time! The weather is warm but not terribly hot that time of year. A hurricane did come in the day after we left this year but the parks were only closed for one day due to it. We were there in September one year and a hurricane came in but the parks were open. There was wind and rain but we went to the Magic Kingdom and rode everything we wanted to! We were one of the few nuts who went out in it!! Disney always keeps you informed of what is going on and we even got notes in our rooms about what to do. Those storms are so unpredictable and hurricane season covers so many months that you just have to take your chances with it. Good luck deciding and I hope you have a great trip! I would try to check in the very end of September while it's still value season and carry over into October and experience the Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP. I wouldn't worry about it still being hurricane season at all, and the crowds are very manageable. We enjoyed sampling the various Food & Wine Festival booths. Even my picky eater of a husband had a good time! Have a wonderful trip!!!
October is my FAVORITE time to go. We have always been lucky and missed any direct hits. Seems October is a bit quieter with storms. I would NOT pass up a trip in October due to fear of hurricane.
The FWF is not to be missed. I LOVE Epcot.
The weather is gorgeous.
Much quieter in October than other times BUT the weekends can be busy. Maybe other passporters know what typically happens on Oct weekends. I'd probably go early in the month rather than later. MK gets busy on weekends in Oct due to Halloween stuff going on.
I say go for it.

We went last October from 1st to 15th and had a great time. The weather was pretty great, still very warm, with the occasional downpour. I found the crowds a lot busier than expected but that was probably down to the Happiest Celebration on Earth. We enjoyed the Food & Wine Festival, altho we concentrated more on the food part as neither of us are big wine drinkers. I thought it was great fun and some of the offerings were fabulous
we've gone twice about that time, the first in 1994 (first week in oct) was great weather and no troubles, the second, 2004 was the last week in sept-hurricaine Jeanne_ and we still had a good time. I agree, don't let the threat of a storm stop you.
good luck
We have gone 3 times in October. In 2002 the weather was very hot. In 2003 the weather was perfect and it never rained once the whole trip. In 2005 the weather was warm but we did have some rain. Hurricane Wilma moved in the last full day of our trip. The parks opened at 1:00pm that day (the storm had moved through by then) and because they opened late, they decided to stay open until Midnight instead of closing at 9pm so we got to enjoy a full day at MK. MNSSHP is not to be missed!
I can't really give you any advice on F&WF as we have never participated in that event yet. But as far as October goes, it is a great time of year to enjoy WDW with much lighter crowds.
