Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
OK all of you WL lovers out there - tell me why you love it so much!!! I just booked our stay at the WL - online! I requested a king bed - but it doesn't show that on my reservation. In fact - if anyone out there has booked their stay online - how did your experience go? I have always talked to a real live person on the phone when booking at Disney. I guess I just want to make sure they got my request. Also - about the passholder best rate.....do you think there is any possiblity of my rate going down? Or do you think the rate I was given is the lowest possible rate. I got WL for a rate of $185.00 a night (that includes taxes). I have never stayed at this resort - I booked it for DH - I think he will really enjoy it there! Thanks for any info you can give.

I love the theme at WL!! I've only stayed in the Villas, but since you check in for both places at the same counter... OMG the WL is awesome!! I have booked several times online for my room reservations, both before buying into DVC and since!
I think you definitely got a great rate and look at it this way, it can ONLY get lower, never higher!!!

Re: Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
I made my reservation online for Sarah's birthday trip - and I did make comments about my reservation, that didn't show on my confirmation. Later on, I called to make some changes, and I asked the CM about the requests - she said that they were most definitely on there (she read them to me) and then we chatted for a bit about some ADR's and such that I wanted to make.
Unbeknownst to me - she added a request to my reservation - she put down that we should be upgraded to a tower room for Sarah's birthday - VERY nice!!!!!
So - we went from a standard wing room at the CR, at a discounted rate, to a beautifully located central Bay Lake View Tower room!
I hope your reservation gets some pixie dust as well! I've never stayed at WL - but I hope you get your king bed!

You will love the WL!! It is a beautiful resort. We stayed there in November for the first time and it definately won't be the last! My DH even said he would like to stay there again! Make sure you request turndown service at night.

Re: Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
We really enjoyed our stay at WL in July of this year. The staff was very nice, housekeeping did a great job with the turndown service each night (you have to call and request this - they do not automatically do it). The front desk staff was very nice when we were checking in. I requested a room with some kind of view of MK and they were very accomodating. We also really enjoyed the pool & water slide.
Have a great time!

You're going to love so many things about Wilderness Lodge. First of all there's the fabulous theming here that gives to the entire place a feeling of peace and serenity not to be found anywhere else on site. Make sure you fully explore the gorgeous grounds and watch the geyser erupt. Also be sure to watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach on at least one occasion. The gift shop here is terrific and both their restaurants, most especially Artist Point, are well worth visiting. I love being able to choose between the very short bus ride to MK or the scenic boat ride over. It's also great having boat access to both the Contemporary Resort and Fort Wilderness with all their facilities. You've got an awful lot to look forward to - have a truly magical vacation!

Re: Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
I love the WL because of the themeing--I'm a Northerner and it seems so Northern. I also love that it's a Deluxe with a much lower price. I love the ferry to MK, and we love Fort Wilderness, too. My WL fuzzy sweatshirt is my ultimate favorite ever, and I love our WL refillable mug. I love the HARDWOOD FLOORS, they are just too beautiful. The VWL are well deserving of a look-see when you're staying there--GORGEOUS! The room decor is fabulous....I better stop talking about it, I'm getting too sorry that we won't be staying there in January. Have fun!!

Re: Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
I think you will love the WL! We love it so much we are going back for our third stay in ten months. DH and I wanted to try different resorts, but we can't help going back to the WL. It's just amazing.
WCC is great for a casual, sit down meal and tons of fun. My only complaint about WL is that Roaring Forks, the counter service option, always seems to be packed whenever we tried to get in there.
The pool is beautiful, the grounds beyond beautiful, mousekeeping some of the best we have ever had and the front desk staff couldn't do more to help us.
If you have time, take the walking trail from WL to FtW and have a meal at Trails End. That is a really lovely, quiet walk and a nice break from the parks. Just don't do it as it's getting dark!!!
My rate was reduced from the BRP by $29 a night about a month or so after I booked it. But, we go in January which is value season and considered a slow time. Keep your fingers crossed that the same happens to you!
Have fun!!!

Re: Made up my mind - we are staying at..........
I just love the place. It is so cozy and at home feeling for me. We will be staying there in November for the third year in a row. The boat ride to MK is great. I have never hada problem with roaring forks being crowded. I do know that it will be closed from Jan to March 9th this year. So hopefully any of those problems people have had will be taken care of.
Enjoy
Erica
