As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
You are right, there are many wheelchairs there. Congrats on getting your Mom to go. My wifes mother has heart problems so we got a wheelchair every day. She could walk a little, but as the week went on she mostly rode. We would not get her an ECV as I saw how she drove a car before she turned in her license! My Dad has hip problems and we rented the ECV for him. He zipped around just fine and I do not believe he hit anything or anyone. I rented wheelchairs and an ECV on our Dec 99 trip due to having foot surgury last Sept. The only disadvantage I found was being down so low, but I was not hurting at the end of the day. Actually it was kind of neet to have my wife and kids push me around. Although my son once thought it was fun to park me under a water spout during some rain! You will not regret this.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I'm so happy for all of you! When we were in WDW in July there were lots of wheelchairs, mostly motorized. She's just nervous, but I'm sure she'll be fine...
I learned this weekend that it's not just grandchildren's adorable faces that work. I was eating my 'birthday cupcake' on friday night and my 2 year old niece has the nose of a bloodhound! She was supposed to be in bed, and she came running down the stairs to say "I Love you Aunt Kimmy, can I have some?" Needless-to-say, its a good thing we all have birthdays every year, I couldn't resist that little angel!
I thought of my suggestion for your kids to hit your mom up right away!! What goes around comes around I guess!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I have successfully completed all the changes to our plans to include my MIL! I am so happy she finally agreed to come. I just know she will love seeing WDW and she will also love watching her 2 grandsons having a great time! It is super that we are staying at the GF 'cause it will be easy for her to get back to if she wants a rest midday and is a great atmosphere to sit and people watch. Only 66 days, 13 hours, 44 minutes and 36 seconds to go!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I am so happy your MIL is able to go with you! She, along with your boys, will always have the special memory of sharing WDW with Grandma and grandkids! You and WildForWD will have the memory of being able to create a very magical vacation with Grandma and the kids.
Oh, I wish we could all be there to see the excitement and wonder on everyones faces! You have to take pictures and post them on the web!!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Thank You EVERYONE for all your warm wishes and help!!
I am SOOOO excited about this trip! I thought I had enough film, but I think I'll get another 6 to 8 more rolls!! This is going to be one trip we will want to remember everything!!
Thanks for the site Margaret!
Do you know about how much they cost??
I know the ones from Disney are about $35 a day...but this would be great if they have a rate for longer periods?
We are planning to use a car for most days, it looks from their site that it's fairly easy to disassemble. Did you do this at all?? I know it LOOKS easy but hearing it from someone who has done it would make me feel better!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I am so happy for you! Well, really I am happy for Grandmom!
My sister used an ECV(electronically controlled vehicle)on our last trip. We rented it from Walker Mobility. They are the same price as Disney, but have quite a few perks that go along with the price.
1st: They deliver the chair directly to your hotel before you check in, eliminating the need to wait in line at the parks to rent one each day.
2nd: Every bus at WDW is equipped to accomodate a wheelchair. No worries on how to get to the park. (My sister could not get up the steps on the bus, so this alleviated a lot of stress on her part)
3rd: When you check out, you just leave the chair with the hotel, and it is all taken care of for you.
If you are interested, go to http://www.walkermobility.com
Hope this helps
Margaret

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
The Disney EVC's are $40 up front, with $10 back when you return it. With your receipt you can go to another park and get one without additional charge IF availible. We got a wheelchair from the resort (Poly) at no charge that we put in the back of our rental minivan. Had they been out of ECV's we had the backup. It was off season and they always had ECV's availible. It was a short trip of only four days and we only rented a ECV for three.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Hey WildForWD
I never disassembled my sis's, so I am no help there. It does look pretty easy to do though. Charging it was super easy too. Just plug in and let it sit overnite.
The rate is $30.00 a day, with a discount if you have a longer stay planned.
I was quoted 274.50 for 10 days. Free delivery, and 1st day is usually thrown in because check in is so late.
So if you do what we did, which is have a 4pm check in, and arrive at 10am, then you have that whole day for free.
They do have a toll free number if you have any more specific questions that I can't answer. 1-888-SCOOTER
Good luck!
Margaret

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Thanks Margaret!
I am going to call them to get a price tomorrow and find out how far in advance we would have to reserve if Mom wants one!
I know all the parks have rentals but what about Downtown Disney & the resorts?? And would they be free if we had a rental from the parks?

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I thought I heard this before but I could be wrong...
I thought that some of the resorts had them, and you could keep it for the duration of your trip?
May be give GF a call and see!
