Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Here are the list of tasks DH made up for me....He put them in a scrapbook for me with like a section for each park with the tasks for that park plus lots of extra room for me to add pictures from the trip. The actual part he included in the book is first and I added the stuff in { } so you would know exactly what he was talking about.:

Magic Kingdom:
"Find the spot where chocolate treats zoom through outer space, (In Space Mountain if you look up while you are standing in the loading area, chocolate chip cookies tumble across the cieling looking like meteors)
Then the proof that Mr. Toad gave Pooh and friends his place, (During the Winnie the Pooh ride look around when you pass through Owl's house and you will find a picture of Mr. Toad giving Owl the deed to his house)
Listen for the dance and music lessons on Main Street, (Hang a right down one of the cut-ins on mainstreet and keep your eyes on the second story windows - one of them is labeled "Music and Dance Private lessons" if you listen closely you can hear tapping feet upstairs)
Spot the shop rooftop through which a bumbling giant peeks (Go inside Sir Mickey's in Fantasyland and you will see a giant peaking inside the store)
Replace one task by finding three hidden Mickey's" (DH puts this on every card and if I can't find one of my tasks then I substitute 3 hidden Mickeys.

Set two for MK:

"Stop by and find Tinkerbell inside her shop, (Visit Tinkerbell's Treasures in Fantasyland - Tinkerbell flits around randomly and is actually kinda hard to spot)
Ride with ol' Brer Rabbit down that big Briar patch drop, (Ride Splash Mountain)
Find the long-lost wedding ring thrown by the ghostly bride, (Right outside the exit of Haunted Mansion you can find a tiny ring in the concrete)
Meet a can that yaps away when you put trash inside." (Keep an eye out for 'Push' - he comes out on the :30 of every hour near Cosmic Rays)

Epcot:

"Climb aboard a rocket ship and set your sights on Mars, (Ride Mission Space)
Then find the little secret from which Mickey should stay far, (Inside MouseGears there is a huge Mickey-shaped mousetrap standing on top of one of the display counters)
As is the tradition, take a sip of Beverly, (a drink sample inside Icestation Cool - warning: it's TERRIBLE)
Then stand in the spot that is the center of all Disney.(Ask a CM to direct you to this spot - I can't think where it is offhand)"

Set two:
"Find a friend who'll quench your thirst and speak to make you smile, (Several of the water fountains talk when you use them so check everyone you pass by)
Then find the spot the water flows it's own, opposite style, (I think this is near the Land - you will know it when you see it..the water flows upward)
Climb aboard what looks like it should sit upon a 'tee' (Ride Spaceship Earth)
Find the coolest spot around and try the Beverly." (Icestation cool again - DH loves to torture me)

MGM:

"Find the rope that says 'Don't pull' and yank with all your might, (in the line for Indiana Jones)
Ride along with Aerosmith through Hollywood at night, (Ride Rockin' Rollercoaster)
Take some time to learn about the man behind the dream, (Visit the walkthrough - the Man Behind the Dream)
Lift the armored truck that's not as heavy as it seems.(I never found this but a CM may be able to direct you to it)"

Set two:

"Visit your friend Ariel down under the sea, (watch the Little Mermaid show)
Pretend you're 'Singin in the Rain,' and then you just might be, (I never found this but I've had people say there is an umbrella somewhere in MGM and if you grab it water will run down around you - maybe a CM could direct you to it)
Find the spot where Kermit looks when locked out in the cold, (Just inside the entrance to Muppets 4D there is a sign that says 'Out to lunch - Key's under the mat' - lift the doormat under the counter and there is a key on the ground)
Read the ghostly message in the haunted tower of old." (Inside the Tower of Terror, just before you enter the library there is a directory. Step out of line and look at the letters that have fallen in the bottom of the directory - It says: "Evil Tower U R doomed"

AK:

"Check behind the little door that's in the Boneyard wall,(Go to the Boneyard and try to open the little doors in the wall...one of them will start talking when you tug on it)
Board a prehistoric ride that spins you as you fall, (Ride Primevil Whirl)
Meet a tree or plant or vine that isn't quite the same, (There is a person dressed up as a plant that walks around and torments guests - she can usually be found on the path leading from Harambe to "Flights of Wonder")
And if you left without a pearl, it would just be a shame." (This is a place where you pay $13 and get to pick a clam out of some water..they cut open the clam in front of you and you get the pearl thats inside of it. I think it has now been moved to Epcot in the Japan pavilion, but there may still be one at AK. It's something to try - I got a HUGE pearl out of the one I picked)

Set Two:
"Find a tree or plant or vine that walks around like you, (I didn't find her on the first trip so I had another chance)
Sing along with Simba and Timon and Pumbaa, too. (Visit the Festival of the Lion King)
Go beneath the roots to see the ants, spiders and flies, (Visit It's Tough to Be a Bug)
Use the squirting elephants on those who stayed too dry. (Near water rapid ride there are things 'elephants' that you can use to spray people as their rafts float by)

Here is a sample of one of the 'vouchers' DH gave me.

I hope this helps some...i know it has always made my trips a little more magical to have special tasks to do.
Another neat thing DH did on this trip was to make a big flyer with a picture of Jimminy Cricket that said:
"Seeking Royal Thrill Seekers!
Reward: One medal for your bravery!
You must ride:
Tower of Terror
Rockin' Rollercoaster
Space Mountain
Primeval Whirl
Mission:Space
Test Track"
After I finished all of these, "Jimminy" snuck a medal made from Sculpay on my pillow Anyway, I hope this gives you some ideas.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Im planning on getting the Wife a goody basket from the Disney Florist for her birthday. Like the trip to Disney isn't a big enough gift to begin with.

How ! You must have had fun!

[ QUOTE ]
Since my trip in December is a 10th anniversary surprise trip for my DH I was wondering what anyone else has done for those they love at Disney. Romantic dinners? Fireworks cruise?? Tell me everything!

[/ QUOTE ]

We've done mostly everything that's been mentioned...
*Fireworks Cruise (We were on the Illuminations Cruise when DH said, "I think I'd like the Fireworks one better". For his birthday, I planned the fireworks one.)
*California Grill - We had a birthday dinner before the fireworks
*Disneyflorists.com - a mickey-shaped basket filled with goodies (glasses, wine, snacks)
*Stay at BW - we never had stayed at BW before, but DH always said he wanted to - so one trip was focused for him
*Football game at ESPN Zone and a Football game at All Star Cafe - he loved it!
*Afternoon delight - sorry, but had to add. For our anniversary or birthday, we leave the Dteens alone and off we go! A gift every man loves!
*Dinner at his favorite Drestaurant - Coral Reef
*Shopping Spree at Virgin Store - he books!
*Disney Birthday Pin - it makes him smile everytime a cm says Happy Birthday! (Age doesn't matter, you like hearing it!)
*Couples only night away from Disney - yup, die-hard Dfan me gave up a night at Disney on one trip for his birthday! We went out to dinner and a movie.
*A Mickey Bar or a sundae at Ghiradellis - yup, something so simple, but if we don't do these, he misses them! That's part of his Dfun!

It's so much fun planning something he would like. He doesn't complain about going to Disney all the time for vacation - I really appreciate that so I make sure he has something special just for him!

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

I had flowers and a basket sent to our room for my hubby from Disney Florist. I called and you can customize your basket. I had stuff like candy, cheese and crackers, fruit, cookies and the neatest champgane flutes with etched Mickeys on them. You should ask about them, only 6 dollars a piece. They have wine glasses too, but I thought these were so cute. I have done this on two trips, so now we have a set of 4
Then i also did a PS at 2 character breakfasts and dinner at different restaurants where he could sit and relax. Good food is important to him, he doesn't want hamburgers etc every meal.
He loved Ohanas and Liberty Tree Tavern.
I also made a basket and took it with us and surprised him with that. I put all kinds of stuff in it from pens, food, disney shirt, snacks, and a lot more. We drove so it was easy to hide in the van.

I just ran across a service that plans special events for you in WDW (for a fee ... of course) and it sounds like fun... you fill out a questionnaire and then the "Pixies" think of a few special ideas for you in different price ranges. They do all the arrangements, take care of everything for you.
We are planning a high school graduation trip for our DD so we filled out a questionnaire. We will see what they come up with.

The company is called "Presentations: Gifts of a Lifetime"
Has anyone used them before?

[/ QUOTE ]

We used them in 2002 for a Vow Renewal Ceremony. Dh planned it for me. I was surprised with a scavenger hunt around the Magic Kingdom, followed by Shawn re-proposing by the Wishing Well beside Cinderella's Castle. We had the ceremony in the Rose Garden with the Vows written by Gifts of a Lifetime using information from a questionnaire DH had filled out. Photos were taken of the ceremony and following in the Rose Garden. It was so sweet! All the clues were laminated and presented in wooden Disney frames and we were given a laminated copy of our ceremony as well. We were given the film taken that and allowed to do whatever we wished with it.

We also used the same service in 2003 for a family photo shoot as a surprise for DH's Mom since it was our first family trip. I was far less pleased with the quality of those photos and would not do that service again. But I would recommend the scavenger hunt or vow renewal package in a heartbeat!

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

On our 10th anniversary, I gift-wrapped a watch for my DH and slipped it to the cast members taking names at Rose and Crown. I told them we wouldn't mind waiting for a table on the lower balcony. When we were seated, that's exactly where we were. Along with our dessert and Illuminations, the server brought DH gift.

Natalie, your story brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful DH you have!

Disneygramma, if your still looking for an "officiante" for your vowel renewal email me. I've got some ideas and we'll be staying at VWL at the same time your at the Contemp. tinkerbellesmom@sbcglobal.net

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

I would recommend the Aqua Seas Tour at EPCOT. It was a blast, we have something we will always remember, and they took a photo of us for souveniers. Also, after the tour, we were let into the Seas pavillion with no-one looking at our tickets (not sure if that matters, but if you are on a park hopper for fewer days than you are there, it might be a way of getting an extra day in)
My daughter and DH haven't stopped talking about it since we got back.
