Beth is also the creator of the popular fragrance, foreverlily. Check out the new Walt Disney World Magic Vacation Mirror in the App Store. This little app offers high-resolution photos and videos, including 360-degree panoramas of the Disney parks and resort hotels. You can also get vacation quotes, order the planning DVD, and have the "magic mirror" on the wall ... er, iPad ... announce your trip! - 2010-10-27 10:10:35 [update] | 10 | Disney released a plethora of discounts this week including Free Dining with dates into summer 2011, a Gift Card offer, a Fall / Winter Room Only discount AND Annual Passholder and Florida Resident Rates. Book a minimum 3-night stay with resort and park admission at a Value Resort and receive the Quick Service Dining Plan free. Valid for stays August 15 - October 7, October 22 - 28, November 12 - 18, November 27 - December 2, and December 10 - 21, 2010. Reserve by August 14, 2010. - 2010-07-06 10:07:47 [update] | 18 | Orlando International Airport (MCO) now has the new Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scanners. The scanners allow remote viewers (not the TSA agents at the security checkpoint) to view an outline of the scanee's body. The agent viewing the scan cannot see the scanees face or identity. Agents at the checkpoint do not have access to the scan. Guest who "opt out" of the scan are subject to a thorough pat-down. For more information, check out the TSA web site. - 2010-11-16 11:11:48 [update] | 20 | A planned high-speed rail corridor to connect Tampa and Orlando has received the final part of its funding. Construction of the 84-mile track, mainly along I-4, is scheduled to begin in 2012 and anticipated to finish in 2015. This high-speed option would cut the duration of the train ride from 90 minutes to 44 minutes. The plans call for five stations on the route, including Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World near the intersections of US 192, I-4, and Osceola Parkway; and downtown Tampa. - 2010-12-14 13:12:10 [update] | 21 | Passengers flying Southwest can now take advantage of Resort Airline and Baggage Check In at all but two Walt Disney World Resorts. (Old Key West and Caribbean Beach need to have their luggage rooms expanded before they can participate.) - 2010-04-09 00:38:04 [update] | 21 | On Monday, May 3, 2010, the Ogurkis family from Pennsylvania were surprised to learn that mom Lori was the 10 millionth guest on Disney's Magical Express! They received a special reception at the airport, were greeted by Mickey Mouse, presented with a gift basket and rode a private motor coach to their resort, the Polynesian, to begin their vacation. Disney's Magical Express is the free airport transportation service open to guests at Disney-owned resorts at Walt Disney World. - 2010-05-04 12:05:37 [update] | 24 | The readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine have voted Disney Cruise Line #1 in the Mega-Ship category for the 2010 Readers Choice Awards. Not bad when you consider Disney's 12 year-old Magic and 11 year-old Wonder are up against state-of-the-art, headline-grabbing behemoths. - 2010-10-14 15:10:14 [update] | 27 | Disney's Beach Club, Disney's Yacht Club, Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian, Disney's Grand Floridian and for the first time, Disney's Boardwalk Inn were all awarded AAA's coveted Four Diamond rating this week. AAA annually reviews over more than 60,000 lodging establishments and rates them on a scale of one to five diamonds. - 2010-03-04 12:41:12 [update] | 30 | The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Walt Disney World hotel rooms will be sold on Priceline beginning in mid-November. The rooms will not be available through the "Name Your Own Price" program but only through the traditional booking engine on the site. Note that Walt Disney World rooms will not be available on Booking.com, Priceline's European site. - 2010-11-01 09:11:02 [update] | 32 | As of February 3, 2010, Walt Disney World and Disneyland guests who opt to purchase their airfare as a part of their package will now have the option to fly JetBlue. - 2010-02-04 19:56:25 [update] | 32 | Disney Visa cardholders dine FREE with the purchase a minimum 3-night Magic Your Way vacation package at a select Walt Disney World resort hotel for stays most nights between August 15 and October 2, 2010. Book by August 14, 2010 -- the deposit and final payment must be made with your Disney Visa. The price even includes a bedtime story! The recreation area includes walking trails, shaded areas, and a dog-only water park! There are even accommodations for your "pocket pets" such as hamsters, ferrets, and guinea pigs. Best Friends continues to operate five other pet care centers on Disney property. Make you reservations at the Best Friends web site. - 2010-06-29 08:06:52 [update] | 35 | The new Best Friends Pet Resort at Walt Disney World was originally scheduled to open this week. That opening has been pushed back to September 1, 2010. - 2010-08-17 16:08:07 [update] | 77 | Walt Disney World will soon begin construction on a new Value Resort - Disney's Art of Animation Resort. The 1,984 room resort will have 1,120 one-bedroom family suites that sleep up to six people (Woo-hoo!) and 864 traditional rooms. The resort is being built on a plot of land originally intended to be the second phase of Disney's Pop Century Resort. The resort will be divided into four sections each featuring a theme from a Disney animated classic - The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Cars. The resort is expected to open by the end of 2012. - 2010-05-12 07:05:50 [update] | 77 | Those interested in Walt Disney World's newest resort, Disney's Art of Animation Resort, set to open in 2012, can follow the progress on a new web page. The web page includes artist renderings and descriptions of the rooms and family suites. - 2010-09-21 11:09:16 [update] | 86 | The 2010 sample room rates for Port Orleans listed in the guidebook are incorrect. Correct rates are as follows: Standard room is $149-$159 (value season), $170-$185 (regular season), $185-$200 (summer season), $195-$210 (peak), $214-$234 (holiday season) and Preferred, water, or king rooms are $174-$184 (value), $195-$210 (regular), $210-$225 (summer), $220-$235 (peak), and $244-$264 (holiday). - 2010-01-20 13:08:25 [update] | 87 | A former front-desk cast member at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney's Old Key West Resort has been arrested in connection with stealing credit card numbers that were then used to rack up almost $83,000 in charges. Ana Rosa admitted to attaching swipers to the front desk computers which scanned the card numbers for use later. The activity potentially affected guests at the resort from September 2009 through early January 2010. - 2010-06-08 12:06:56 [update] | 88 | Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will be getting a new main pool in the Paddock section of the resort. The current 1,100 sq ft pool will be replaced with a 3,200 sq ft, zero-entry pool with water slide, play area and a quick service dining location. The new pool is scheduled to open in 2011. - 2010-03-11 20:48:27 [update] | 100 | Check-in to Shades of Green August 15 - October 31, 2011 (black out dates apply) and receive up to 50% off room rates. Shades of Green is a resort exclusively for active and retired military members and Department of Defense employees. Resale owners also cannot redeem their points for Disney cruises or Adventures by Disney trips. Re-sale owners will only be able to redeem their points at the 11 DVC properties world-wide or at properties through their timeshare partner, RCI. - 2011-01-24 15:01:24 [update] | 104 | For a $5 delivery fee plus the cost of the items ordered, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members can now order groceries online from the DVC web site prior to their arrival. - 2010-05-25 11:05:21 [update] | 116 | Disney Gift Card holders with iPhones or iPads can now keep track of their gift card balance(s) and benefits with a free app available at Apple's App Store. Multiple cards can be tracked, and you can assign a custom label and/or photo to identify each card. - 2010-11-17 14:11:46 [update] | 118 | Disney announced the creation of the "Disney Premier Passport" - a premium annual pass that includes admission to BOTH Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The Passport costs $700 plus tax. This option is currently available online for new annual passes only. - 2010-06-29 08:06:02 [update] | 118 | Historically speaking, Walt Disney World has raised the prices of their park admission the first weekend in August for the last three years. This means that if you are planning an upcoming trip or contemplating the purchase of an Annual Pass, now would be the time to buy! No official word yet on the exact date prices will go up, traditionally little notice is given. - 2010-07-27 12:07:24 [update] | 118 | As expected, ticket prices have increased at Walt Disney World Resort, as of August 5, 2011, generally by about 4%. A single-day, single-park adult Magic Your Way Ticket increases to $87.33 (including tax), a $3.19 increase. The Magic Your Way Park Hopper and Water Park Fun and More options each went from $55.38 to $57.51, also about a 4% increase. A basic adult Annual Pass went from $521 to $531.44, again, up about 4%, and the adult Premium Annual Pass went from $659 to $669.89. The only dramatic percentage increase was on the shorter-duration Magic Your Way Tickets with the No Expiration Option. Wishes is being replaced with a new, as-yet-unnamed, fireworks show, the Main Street Electrical Parade is returning to the Magic Kingdom and will feature a few new floats, and over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is getting an upgrade with a new drop sequence and rumored new special effects. - 2010-02-17 19:38:45 [update] | 129 | The 33 Chilean Miners who were trapped for 69 days will be visiting Walt Disney World along with their families and rescuers in January 2011. The price including tax is $52.14. - 2010-11-23 10:11:47 [update] | 130 | The Pirate's League in the Magic Kingdom has dropped the price of the First Mate & Empress packages from $44.95 to $29.95 each. The package includes your choice of facial effect (scar, etc.), a pirate coin necklace, a sword, the Pirate Oath and Naming ceremony and either a set of removable teeth for the First Mate package or make-up, nail polish and a facial gem for the Empress package. The Captains package has been discontinued. Costumes and other items may be available a la carte. The fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system. No injuries were reported. - 2011-01-17 08:01:13 [update] | 138 | Walt Disney World has announced the official groundbreaking for the (previously announced) expansion of Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland. Scheduled for completion in 2013, this will be the largest expansion of Magic Kingdom since its opening. - 2010-03-04 12:30:55 [update] | 138 | The Walt Disney World Resort announced on July 18 some significant changes coming to Fantasyland as part of the previously announced Fantasyland expansion. Snow White's Scary Adventure will be closing and be replaced by a Princess Meet and Greet area called Princess Fairytale Hall. Goofy's Barnstormer is getting a new look featuring Goofy as "The Great Goofini." And a brand new coaster attraction, The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, will feature a first-of-its-kind ride system with ride vehicles that swing back and forth as they move along the track. The previously announced "next-generation" princess and fairy meet-and-greets have been canceled, with the exception of Belle's (from Beauty and the Beast). - 2011-01-18 14:01:37 [update] | 138 | Ariel's Grotto, Scuttle's Landing and Pooh's Playful Spot have all closed. The areas are being removed to make way for the new areas of Fantasyland that will include Sleeping Beauty's cottage, Cinderella's chateau and the Beast's castle.

A rose by any other name! - 2010-05-27 16:05:28 [update] | 138 | The carrousel in the Magic Kingdom (formerly Cinderella's Golden Carrousel) is now the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. No reason was given for the name change, though a "back story" for the carrousel was revealed. We're guessing the name change will make more sense once the expansion of Fantasyland is complete. - 2010-06-01 12:06:05 [update] | 138 | Beginning October 15, 2010, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from the upcoming Disney film "Tangled," will be appearing in the Magic Kingdom's Fairytale Garden. This experience will replace the "Storytime with Belle" show, which will end on September 12, 2010. - 2010-08-03 09:08:52 [update] | 139 | The 120-ton tree that was home to Pooh's Playful Spot in the Magic Kingdom has been relocated in Fantasyland. The tree will be re-purposed as part of the Fantasyland expansion and will eventually be used to connect "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" attraction to the new Fantasyland Forest. You can view photos and video at the Disney Parks Blog. - 2010-05-18 12:05:04 [update] | 139 | The newly renovated attraction, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, is now open in the Magic Kingdom. The attraction features a re-designed loading area as well as a re-designed gift shop, Hundred Acre Goods. The loading area is still under construction with new, interactive features to ease the wait, so for now, guests load through the Fastpass queue. The cars have a top speed of 7 miles per hour. This is a nod to the attractions previous incarnation from 1975 - 1994 as the WEDWay PeopleMover. - 2010-08-17 16:08:25 [update] | 150 | Duffy the Disney Bear is an existing character at Tokyo DisneySea but will be making his US debut at Epcot and Disney California Adventure on October 14, 2010 during Grand Opening ceremonies. The story goes that Duffy is a teddy bear given to Mickey Mouse by Minnie Mouse to keep him company on a long sea voyage. The exhibit features a variety of data centers at which guests can play a game designed to show how IBM technology is used to solve problems, and others where guests can create an avatar of themselves and then use the avatar in a video game.
