Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My Job has got me at the end of my Rope Updated 3/15 Really Good!
I work for a casino in their reservations department and when I first started it wasn't that bad you had an occasional cranky patron but more and more lately people seem to be unhappy and cranky. The type of person we deal with are people who chose to take a chance on losing money sometimes lots of money and they expect everything for free. I dread going onto the phones now when I go to work it has totally lost its appeal to me. Once in a while I get that great patron that makes me say "this is why i like this job" but I am lucky if i get one a week like that. The people I work with have changed as well due to the stress we are put under we are doing a million things for a pennies pay and we are all just very unhappy. Its often that I before, during, or after work.
In July of 2005 6 of us were put in a satalite office to free up space in the main office and we were given a nice schedule of 12p to 8p and weekends off. I can't complain about my schedule one bit.
Well we are being moved back to the main office on the 13th of March and none of us know where they are finding the room but I won't mind not having to walk outside in the cold anymore to get to my desk as I have to now. I kinda was hoping they would move us.
Well the people I work with on a daily basis are being such children about that and making me feel like I am in High school again. I was always picked on at school and they are picking on me becuase of my cold making comments about me being Typhoid Mary or needing a coffin as I sound like I'm dying. Not to mention the constant nagging about me and my enjoyment of Disney. Well the Coffin Comments made me lose it today and I had to hide in the bathroom and have a good cry on the phone with my mom as I just can't stand it anymore.
Well I was trying to hold out until I moved as why have to job search twice in 6 months but That was the last straw when I had to leave early today because of cruel coworkers.
I can't call out of work anymore because of the "points" system and I am out of points. So if i get sick or their is a storm I will lose my job if I don't go in. Well maybe this was a sign.
I'm sorry to vent and complain I really am not a complainer just seems when I have things go wrong they go all at once.
Thank you for listening.
Any find a new job fast and get better really fast pixies you might have would be greatly appreciated

Re: My Job has got me at the end of my Rope
Amy,
Hang in there until you find something better. I am a CSR for a business credit card company. I feel your pain! The more the customers whine and complain, the more your co-workers will be mean. I have been in this business for 5 years. I have witnessed this first hand. I have had days where I am sitting in the bathroom crying for hours because of mean customers and co-workers. If you are feeling that upset check out career builders website. There are a lot of good customer service positions available.
I am sending lots of hugs and pixies your way. If you ever need to vent, let me know. We can swap stories. Hang in there!

Re: My Job has got me at the end of my Rope
Been in your shoes when it comes to co workers that make you feel like CRUD. Ugh. I feel so bad. We're here for you...feel better, cold wise and work wise!
You could always leave the casino and go to a temp agency for the next 6 months...just a thought!
Good luck!

Re: My Job has got me at the end of my Rope
Find a new job fast and get better really fast Ugh. That sounds really awful, Amy. I can't believe how childish your coworkers are. Seriously.
I realize that I am in a very fortunate situation where I could afford to just up and quit my job because my wage was just for extra stuff like WDW and eating out (and seriously after taxes & expenses I was making US$14 a day ), but I have to tell you I feel OODLES better already and I still have 2 shifts left. Sometimes there's more to life than just money, you know? I know you have your own bills to pay so it's probably not much of an option for you. Is temping an option for you for a few months? I think it was a very good suggestion. I'd check around with local temp agencies and see if it's worth looking into. At least with a temp job, you wouldn't have to put up with grumbly rude co-workers for very long!
