As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Aldi Food Market- Info please!
We have an Aldi Food Market being built here and I am curious if any of you guys have one- and what your thoughts are. I looked a little at the website but would love some opinions.
I hope it's a good place because I am so sick of limited options here. We are 45 minutes from Wal Mart World Headquarters so you can imagine what those options are.
Thanks!

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
The Aldi's in Germany are regular supermarkets, so I was disappointed when I went to one here. Had to have a quarter to be able to get a cart (which you got back when you hooked your cart back up to the chains). Had to pay for shopping bags. Food is bulk, no-name type stuff. It would be fine for canned goods, that sort of thing, but I was under-impressed. I was keeping a grocery price book at the time and my regular store or Sam's was always comparable, so I opted not to make the extra trip.

Our Aldi is kind of gross. They don't have alot of stuff either. I went in there looking for oatmeal and I could not find any!

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
I also am a Wegmans addict but we have several Aldis near by. It's been a while since I've been in one.
Everything is in their shipping boxes on metal skids right on the sales floor. They do have a small frozen section and a produce section, but I wouldn't trust the produce.
Aldi is fine for canned goods, especially if you buy store brand as it is. I actually enjoy the Aldi brand of graham crackers.
You do have to pay to rent a cart and you have to pay for bags, but they give boxes out for free. If you buy the bags, keep them safe and use them next time you go.
I wouldn't go to Aldi for all my shopping needs, but it's a nice addition to what's there.
We just got a Save A Lot nearby and it reminded me of Aldi, but a step up. They had a little more to choose from and some name brands as well.
Give it a try when they open! Good luck!
Jennifer

The Aldi's around here are pretty small and not the cleanest place in the world. I went once and never went back.

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
I'm not a big Aldi fan -- the cart quarter doesn't bother me at all, as long as I have one! Once I had to wait by the carts for someone to return one so I could give them my 2 dimes and a nickel! (they didn't get it )
We used to go once or twice a year to stock up on canned goods and "lunch stuff" (chips, snack cake type things), and baking stuff like flour and sugar - I've since decided the miniscule savings is not worth the hassle - mostly because I shop alone, and having a bagger is way worth it to me.
I now do most of our shopping at Fareway - it's cheap, has an excellent meat counter, good service, and the bag boys/girls take the stuff out and load it in your car.

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
We have an Aldi's about 5 minutes away. It's seems to get a lot of business, but it's not my choice. If you're just out to save money and don't care about the brands, then it's OK but it's definitely a no thrills type of store. Make sure you have a quarter for a cart and some bags for your groceries, which you'll have to bag yourself. There are plastic bags available in the store for .10 or something. It's the only grocery store I've ever seen where the cashiers actually sit on stools. I guess that's because they don't have to do anything else but rake the groceries over the scanner and take your money.

I've never been to the one here although from what I have heard everyone's description here seems to be right on target.

I hardly ever go to our Aldi. I am a name brand person. The generics always taste off to me.

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
There are Aldi's all over St. Louis. The first time I saw one when we went to visit DH's family, I had never heard of it . . . the way most people described it to me was "the ghetto grocery store". Mike said his mom went to Aldi's once and was grossed out! None of the ones I ever saw were in the nicest part of town either though!

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
We have an Aldi's in our town, but we very rarely shop there. I understand Tesco are going to build a few small stores in California, so if those are a success, they could become as popular as they are over here. Now there's a thought!

Funny...I thought that too, but if you're a cashier at Aldi, you're also the stock person. When you're not ringing someone out, you're expected to be on the sales floor opening boxes and setting them up. I think the stool is a nice perk!
Aldi pays pretty well for the position too.
I didn't mention this earlier, but my grandma is proud of her Aldi purchases. One holiday we were eating ham, and we were all commenting on how much we liked it, and she proudly exclaimed..."It's from Aldi!" She gets almost everything there!

Re: Aldi Food Market- Info please!
We have one here in town, but I think I've shopped there only once. Not very impressed, and I am not a name-brand-only kind of person. It was cheap, but I didn't think it was clean, and I also didn't like the way everything was just sort of piled up on the shelves. Some stuff was in boxes on the floor. Uh, no thanks, I'll stick to my regular grocery stores!
