Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I look at the footage on CNN and I can't believe this is happening in our country. It is like a war zone, only one we had absolutely no control over.

I am so upset by this whole thing. Making a donation seems like such a small pittance compared with the devastation I am witnessing. I feel so bad for everyone that was affected by Katrina. The devastation seems to go beyond "Their lives will never be the same again." This devastation seems like there will be NO recovery for some, and for the cities affected.

I had to shut the TV off last night, I couldn't watch anymore.

Is anyone else as feeling as shell-shocked and helpless as me?

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

Sue, I totally understand how you feel. It's so hard to watch. I just can't fathom what it must be like down there and even what it must be like in that Superdome. I just heard that they are going to bus everyone out of there and send them to the Astrodome in Houston. At least they should have better conditions there.

My DH's cousin lives in a New Orleans suburb and she suspects she lost everything but she's alive and well and is staying with friends.

It's all just so sad and you're right, making a donation just doesn't seem like it's enough.

I know what you mean ... I feel terrible for those people. I can't imagine the devastation they are going through.

<font color="purple">Definitely feeling very helpless right now.
My aunt, uncle &amp; cousin live in Kenner which has flooded and my uncle owns a restaurant in the warehouse district of N.O. They were lucky enough to have a place to evacuate to, but are pretty much in limbo until they are allowed back in to town.
Right now it looks like another 2 weeks before they are allowed back, but my uncle is checking to see if business owners have priority, especially with all of the looting going on.

My family in NY were planning a Christmas trip to Dominican Republic, but we've decided cancel so that we can go down to help with the clean-up or send the money that would've gone towards the trip. Whichever is needed most. </font>

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I was watching CNN last night and my face felt absolutely numb. Last time I felt like that, we had just heard my FIL passed away suddenly. My heart aches for all those people.

On top of that, I couldn't help but think over and over again that this is worse destruction than anything any terrorist could ever dream up. Not only are so many lives lost, ruined, turned upside down where Katrina hit, but it's affecting the economics of probably the entire continent. Even in Winnipeg. Our gas prices jumped 5 cents a litre yesterday. I don't mean to turn this around into how this catastrophe is affecting me, but I'm saying this to show that we likely haven't even begun to fathom the ways that this is going to affect everybody.

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I sit here watching the news, watching people sitting on the highway, knowing that all they wish is to be comfortably safe at home. Since the beginning I wondered though what would happen if New Orleans said everyone must leave. You see I live in Beaumont (southeast) Texas and I know that thousands of people from Louisiana have already come here taking shelter from the storm. Only to know that this morning they are going to move thousands more on I-10 through southeast Texas and onto Houston. The Astrodome will hold them and we Texans will welcome them with open arms. I watch Fox News post pictures of Louisiana and know that in a heart beat, had Katrina not turned north, it could of been us in their shoes. Everyday I tell my self and people around me that "To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world." I spoke the words with confidence and now I know for sure what they mean. Out there people are coming from all over the country to help, hundreds will arrive but no matter how many show up, each one will make make a difference. The storm has already hit close to home (literally) but my friends were there for college and one of the guys I am hanging with worked on an Oil Rig out there. I haven't heard from him, I am sure though he is ok. God Bless....Everyone.

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

It's devastating. I'm thankful (and not to be callous) that I've been so busy the past couple of days that I haven't had time to sit in front of the TV and watch (although I do bring it up on the computer when I can). I can't imagine what those people are going thru losing their lives, and everything they own

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I agree with you Sue. After a while, I have to turn it off, it just gets to be too much to watch. I can't imagine what those people must be going through just to not have the basics like food and water. It is just so heartbreaking.

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I have to admit I have not been watching most of the coverage. September 11 is coming up and that is a very hard day for me (and many others) for many reasons. (The obvious plus 2 years ago a friend commited suicide and 6 years ago my Grandmother received the injury that killed her a few days later.) Watching the devastation is simply more than I can take right now.

But I am reading the print coverage and my heart goes out to all those affected.

Re: Anyone else having a hard time dealing with Katrina?

I'm feeling exactly the same way. I was so disgusted yesterday when someone was complaining about the rain we're getting this week. I cannot even imagine what it must feel like to see your home, or your city totally under water, it is just horrible.
