As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I\'m really nervous - Update
about going back to work. I have been off for six months and am due to return on Monday. I have not been sleeping at all well at night and that making me very tired and a bit moody.
I am sure once I get there I will be ok. My manager has told me that I can work part time for a few weeks which I am sure will help a lot. She has been pretty kind to me and I am very grateful for that.
I don't really know why I am worrying so much about going back. I hope I am ready to.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
Karen

Re: I\'m really nervous
I think it would be odd if you were not nervous about going back after 6 months off. Do you get along with your co-workers? Are you worried they are going to be bitter about you being gone? It sure sounds like you have a great job and a great boss. Hang in there, Karen. Be sure to let us know how it goes on Monday

I'd say on the whole I do get on with most of my co-workers. I was forced into this job as the old company I used to work for (loved the job and loved my colleagues) lost our client and we all had to find new jobs. We were all incredibly sad as nobody wanted to leave. I got given a job with the new company who took over the client and was sent to work in a different office. Don't get me wrong I was grateful to have a job but was really sad to have to move.
Sorry this is a bit long but there was an incident with a woman at my new place of work. I sit diagonally (sp)? opposite her and we can't see each other because both our computer screens are in the way. I was at lunch and she thought I had gone out to lunch but I was actually eating a sandwich at my desk and she couldn't see me. She was on the phone to a client that I had just been talking to before lunch, she proceeded to tell this client that I was useless at my job and I was inexperienced (I have done this sort of work for 10 years) and really badmouthed me to this lady. I just sat there and heard every word she had said I couldn't believe it. She literally spent 20 minutes on the phone running me down to this client. I didn't know whether it was best to confront her or have a word with my manager. I am a shy person and don't like confrontation so I thought I would wait for my manger to come back from lunch and tell her about it. I racked my brains to see if I had done anything to upset my colleage and could not think of a single thing. I am the sort of person who is pretty shy and go out of my way not to offend anyone so I really couldn't see what I had done.
My manager came back from Lunch and I asked to see her in private and told her all about it. I told her that my colleage had told the client the advice I had given her was wrong and she had been badmouthing me. My manager agreed that the advice I had given the client was 100% right and she was due to have a meeting with my colleague later on that afternoon as she had upset another member of staff .
I went back to work a bit shaken and the client that my colleague had badmouthed me came through on my line. I have always had an excellent relationship with this particular client. We often told each other of plans we had at the weekend and the evenings and enquired about each others families. Well she was very very cold with me and she told me that I had not done my job properly and was now questioning whether everything I had done for her had been right in the past. I assured her that I had always given her the best service I could and the advice that I had given her was correct as always and I had checked with my manager and she agreed with me that the advice was correct. Unfortunately that was the end of my good relationship with that client and everytime she came through to me on the phone she was so cold and brusque. She questioned everytime I booked a flight for her that I had done it correctly and always asked me to double check my work.
I was so upset I had always prided myself on the fact that I worked very hard and all my clients liked me. I felt it was really unfair that one of my colleagues had done this to me. I lost confidence in my ability to do my job, had a lot of family problems at the time, everything piled on top of me and I started having panic attacks at work. It got to the point that I would panic everytime I had a phone call.
I am really sorry to whitter on for such a long time. I know that this woman still works there and to be honest I am scared she will do it again. She is not a young girl so I cannot put it down to immaturity. She is a grown married woman of 47 with two grown up children.
I really don't want to tell my manager that I am scared of working there because of this woman. Everything else about where I work is fine, it's fairly local, I like the hours, my other colleagues are mainly fine.
My confidence is still at rock bottom with the ability to do my job correctly and I have asked my manager when I return to work if I can do admin only. I know this will bore my eventually but I think better to be bored than have panic attacks. Because I had a few panic attacks at work before I was off I am also worried that people will think I am freaky and not normal.
Outside of work I have a good social life, I have a wonderful best friend and a lot of close friends so I don't think I have a problem with people (a bit shy at first maybe).
I'm really not sure what to do, I'm dreading Monday .
Karen

Re: I\'m really nervous
Oh, Karen, that's such an awful story! What a mean person! She was probably jealous of how well you did your job...it's usually the most insecure that feel the need to badmouth others.
Keep your chin up - you can do it! Sending you a and some for a good first day back! You can do it!!

Re: I\'m really nervous
Karen that other woman is just MEAN! It sounds like your boss believes in you, so you take that light into yourself and go in with your head up and just do the type of job you always do - YOUR BEST! And remember how much it helped Tinkerbell to have us all believe and clap - well I'm clapping for YOU right now.

Re: I\'m really nervous
Karen, this person is very jealous of you. People like her are very insecure about themselves so they feel the need to tear other people down. much like a bully, your coworker feels the need to belittle others so she can feel above you.
Document everything you hear her say to you that is unprofessional. Take this documentation to your superviser. Hopefully your superviser will deal with the situation.
Please remember this woman is doing this because she feels inferior to you. She feels the need to make you feel bad so she can feel better about herself.
You are a wonderful person and are very good at your job. I know that it is very hard to do (I have been through this myself), but ignore this lady and she will go away. Don't let her get you down (I know, much easier said then done).
