As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My house is falling apart
Last night I went to get something out of the fridge and the light burned out. I have no idea how to get the lightbulb out. I must have stood there trying for about 5 minutes.
Then this morning we're getting ready to leave and the doorknob literally fell off into my hand This is one good thing of renting...I can just call them and say 'Come fix this!'
Anything broken in your house that needs repairing? And will the repair be done in the near future?

Re: My house is falling apart
Our home was built in the mid 1800's and was a fixer upper when DH bought it in 1979. It's been in a constant remodeling stage ever since. I could write a book about what still "needs" to be done and what we'd "like" to have done! Sometimes I wonder if it's ever gonna be finished.

Re: My house is falling apart
Yep - we have a squeaky floor in the upstairs bathroom that has successfully woken me up early every day for the past two weeks! DH has to get up before me for work and the floor is all of a sudden SUPER SQUEAKY!! We have no idea how to get rid of the squeak as we have linoleum flooring in the bathroom - so my guess is I will just have to get used to the squeak! Tina, any chance your property management wants to come fix my squeak?

Re: My house is falling apart
I'm married to a wonderful guy who can fix anything!
Unfortunately, lately he's spent all his free time fixing up other people's houses to make money for our Disney trips!
So it looks like I could use someone to come over and change a very high light bulb!!

Re: My house is falling apart
The first week of July the dishwasher, washing machine, lawnmower and a pipe under the kitchen sink all broke within 2 days of each other. I felt like I was cursed!! Luckily DH is very handy and was able to fix everything, although the dishwasher parts took 2 weeks to come in! We used a lot of paper plates

Re: My house is falling apart
We came home from a long weekend to the smoke detector beeping (low battery)! Not sure how long that was going, but good thing we don't have the cat anymore, he would have gone batty! If that's the worst of our troubles, we'll be all set!
We built a house 7 years ago, and it's still not done It's just one constant thing after another!

Re: My house is falling apart
I tried to replace the florescent lights in my kitchen the other day and couldn't get the cover back on. Then I dropped it and it broke...opps!
My puppy Belle also escaped from her crate last week and peed on my couch. I spent until 11:30 pm that night steam cleaning the cushion. The next day the odor was still there so I went to the pet store and purchased a bottle of Nature's Miracle and I think the odor is finally gone after two applications and leaving the cushion outside to dry for a day. Oooohhhh bad puppy

Re: My house is falling apart
DD went to take a shower yesterday, and the knob for the faucet fell off! She came out, wrapped in a towel and holding it in her hand, and said "um, Mom...." Since DH is in the Arctic until tonight or tomorrow, it's not going to be fixed 100% until he gets home. But I've got it put back on well enough that if we're very gentle we can still use it!

Re: My house is falling apart
My DH is a real creative guy. Disorganized and no plans, but he is creative. About 9 years ago I asked for new kitchen cabinets and a new floor. He started planning my new kitchen, and nine years later I have a partially finished addition but no new cabinets and floor. HOWEVER, last week we started ripping up the floor (crappy ceramic tile, installed by previous owner). We ripped, chipped, crowbarred, hoisted, and removed four (4) levels of flooring from the kitchen. One of the flooring choices was a lovely orange fake brick vinyl flooring product, to match the tangerine, avocado, and harvest gold fruit n flowers wall paper that I found behind an old cabinet. Ooooh you all say, it's retro! I bet they had a shag carpet in here somewhere! We moved the laundry room from the mud room to the upstairs addition so I didn't have to haul laundry up and down the stairs. There's no siding on the addition yet and no flooring on the upstairs part of the addition. But the floor is almost gone, we are down to the last piece to chip and hoist. I guess then we can put down new flooring and then start getting new cabinets. I guess we were on the 10 year plan. I don't think it will ever get done.

Re: My house is falling apart
Isn't it wonderful when you're renting and things like that aren't your problem? I know we need to repair our gutters, but that's going to cost, so we have to think about where the money for that's going to come from.

Re: My house is falling apart
AH, the beauty of renting! Having someone else come and fix it. We went through a spell in July where we had a couple minor problems. Lucky for us, our fix-it man lives inthe other half of the duplex. DH went to school with our landlord and the landlord's parents live in the other half of our duplex, so his dad fixes everything. Kinda nice to only have to go next door to let them know somethings wrong.
Good luck Tina!

Re: My house is falling apart
The kids pulled one of the towel racks down a couple of months ago. DH says he will fix it "soon". I think that means "2 seconds before we sell or die, whichever comes last".

Re: My house is falling apart
Oh how I know the feeling! We just bought a house in March, and it's only 10 years old, but we've definitely had our share of issues. When will it end...I've been told never
Through all of it though, I still love my house, afterall, it is my first one

Re: My house is falling apart
It's just too depressing for me to think about. I don't call it the moneypit for nothing, you know. Suffice it to say, I've got enough repairs on my list to keep a handy person busy well into their golden years. Ugh. I hate spending money on house stuff like that.
