As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Deciding to move
On our get a way nite this past Friday my DH and I had some time to talk w/o kids! And we discussed moving to another area of town where we wouldn't have to uproot the kids from their schools.The thing is we never really thought about moving since we only moved in our area 6 years ago.But this came up and we're both game.No pressure we'll just keep an eye out for something.I was just wondering how often anyone of you have moved the family or just moved yourselves? I'm sure it's taken much more thought than our weekend decision!

It takes me awhile to think about moving and I am single, no kids to worry about. I moved to Pa back in 92 and lived there for 10 years. Moved back to mass at the end of 2002. Though that was an abrubt move actually. That was decided in a weekend, though I was thinking I may end up doing it for a few weeks before hand.

I have moved 18 times in my life, 8 of which with children in a 7 year span and I have sworn I will never do it again! For me moving has always been a necessity, so thinking about it is a moot point. When I moved to my current home, I made good and sure that this was a house I could live with for the rest of my life (it's actually my FIL's parents house, so it's got family history).
Just make sure that you make lists, charts, whatever works for you of pros and cons and don't get caught up in the "new house" smell!  Take plenty of time to think about it and include the kids (but don't let them make your decision for you...my DDs weren't keen on moving the last time, but it was the right thing to do)

maryjane, I have lived in 4 houses in Wethersfield (including the one we bought 2 years ago when we moved back to this town), 2 in West Hartford, 1 in Massachussetts and countless apartments in Bristol and West Hartford and Manhattan. These moves included 4 seperate elementary schools!  If you can do this move without uprooting your kids from their schools, I say go for it! And good for you for thinking about it.  We moved within town as a child and had to change schools constantly. It was a nightmare! |

I've only moved twice since having kids - once when Kylor was just 2 months old, we moved back up here. Then when Jalen was 4 months old, we moved to our current residence. I've thought about moving a few times, but the thought of taking my kids out of this school breaks my heart. It's a great school. I lived in the same house from age 8 mos - 18, so I know it's a great thing to be in the same school. That's so great you're thinking about that, too. Best of luck!

Military? In June, we're making move #5 in three years. Luckily, only with cats, so far.
When I was nine, my parents moved my sisters and I (ages 11 and 7) across town. We didn't change schools - went from one side of the boundary to the other. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. I remember it being around Thanksgiving. I hated keeping my room clean while they were trying to sell the house!  Mom and Dad made the actual move quick - we packed, moved and unpacked all within five days. And it really helped that the new house gave me my own bedroom. |

Hmmmmmmmm. I've moved twice during my married life. The first time was from our townhouse after we had Sean and we had to move so it really wasn't our decision. The second was to my present house. We moved because we literally outgrew the other one and it was just time. We also had a lot of equity in our home which helped alot with our decision. I think your way of deciding sounds like much more fun! |

I've only moved three times in my life. I lived at my parents house from birth to 20 years old. Then I lived in my own apartment for a year in college before I went on the WDWCP. I moved back in with my parents and after I had Alex, they built on a seperate apartment to their house so Alex and I would have our own place. Now we're moving to Orlando next week!

Growing up we moved just about every other year until I hit second grade and then we stayed until right before my junior year in highschool when we moved to Montana. Then I went to college and moved all over the city there. Then I moved out here to Portland and have moved around the city here a several times.
I love to move and really would like to move to a different state now. I love the experiences you get when you are in a new place. I love meeting new people! Although I didn't like it at the time when I was little. I really learned alot and now I wouldn't trade that for anything!
I would give anything to move like that for my girls just for the experiences you have.
THe one thing I will say is if you do move try to stay put for at least the last two years of high school for your children. Makes it easier for them to adjust and have friends and feel apart of things when they partcipate in graduation.

IN our first 2 weeks of marraige, DH and I moved to 3 different apartments in the same complex. So, in a month, I moved 3 times (out of moms, apartment #1,#2,&#3)
Then, we moved to the house we are in now about 9 years ago. We are getting ready to build a house again, and move the last time.

I grew up in the same house my entire life, and my parents still live there. Other than different apartments at college, I've only had my one apartment on my own, and now the house that DH and I built. I'm not a fan of moving myself, and if you can do it without changing the kids school, I say definitely go for it  We've contemplated moving one town over, but not sure if we'd ever do it or not  |

I cant even begin to count the many times I have moved! Some were for the better and some turned out not be the best ideas- but we live and learn as they say!
