Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Student Ambassador Program?

We got a letter today from People to People Student Ambassador Programs in Spokane,Washington. It says our 5th grade son has been invited to travel ad study in UK and Ireland in 2004. This program was founded b Pres.Eisenhower. I was wondering if any of these wonderful Passporters had any dealings with this group. We are very excited about this but also a little sceptical. My son was all wide-eyed and open mouthed. I would really appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks, Mary

Wow! I have never heard of such a program. But it does sound very interesting. Hopefully someone around here will know more.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

5th grade?!? Wow. I have never heard of this program, either. Who will he be traveling with? How long will he be gone? That just seems so young to me. Although I don't think I would ever be able to deny my children of the pleasure of traveling overseas, even at such a young age. Is this a group of students with a chaperone? Or one on one student/adult? Sounds interesting.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

Just yesterday we received the same mailing for my son! My son is 12 years old and in grade 7. He is invited to study in England, France, Italy and Greece in 2004. It says he was recommended by a teacher or national educ. listing organization. I am very skeptical. Can't imagine sending my 12 year old to live with host families for 22 days in all of these different countries. I am very curious as well, and was just on their web site. Are you going to your local informational meeting? My son isn't all that interested. He's uneasy about travelling with "strangers". What do you think?

Whoa! You mean you didn't apply for this, and you didn't get asked permission by the teacher to submit your sons' names? Serious investigation time!!!

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

Wow! Congrats!
I have heard of the People to People program, and knew of someone who was a Student Ambassador, but can't for the life of me recall who it was! (Sorry!)

Having said that, I would find out who nominated your son, and start doing some serious research on the internet. It's a great honor, but I agree that allowing your son off by himself would have me very apprehensive!

Good Luck!!

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

My supervisor's son did this when her was in high school. It was a wonderful program for him. He went to Ireland, Scotland, and England. He was really kind of shy when he left. But it built up his confidence. He's much more outgoing now.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

thanks for the response.
Snapple--I'm glad someone has some experience with this.
Irenaroo-I hope it turns out to be legit. My DS is excited about it and I think it would be really good for him--his a "momma's boy". We signed up to go to a meeting Oct. 22 to find out more.
I went to the actual website and it looks good but I think I will ask at my son's school what they know. I will try to remember and post any further info I get. mary

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

I would seriously check a lot further into how he was nominated. Some of our students went last year after "we" nominated them - "we" the teachers never nominated the students as none of us had ever heard about the program for children who are not in high school.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

I know several of my friends have done the student ambassador program, but that was in highschool and they were largely unchaperoned while in Australia. They loved it, but it doesn't seem appropriate for middle schoolers. I'd dig a little deeper.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

I just did a search for them on the Better Business Bureau web site for you and they are members of the BBB (since 1982) and have a satisfactory rating. The organization's web site is http://www.studentambassadors.org/

I had never heard of them, but they do sound legit. I would be very curious to know who nominated your child though.

I went to their web site and it says for middle & high school students. But, I had never heard of them before your post. I too would ask questions about this "nomination".

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

Chris received a "nomination" for this a couple of times when he was in high school. I did check into it - the cost was pretty significant, and he did not express any great interest in the program, so we did not pursue it at the time.

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

I got a similar letter yesterday for my 6th grader Carmen. Her letter said that she could go to Yosemite and some other places.

It seems fluky and expensive so I pitched it. It's nice that someone thinks highly of Carmen

Re: Student Ambassador Program?

My 5th grade son received a letter about this. It said he would have the opportunity to visit Yosemite as well as various places.

I went to the website, and it seemed legit, but I can't help being wary still. The tuition seemed a bit high, and there was no mention of chaperones. With all the sickos in the world, I am leery of sending y son off with people I don't know.

I ended up just tossing it in the trash.
