As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Alien encounter rumour
I've just found this on Screamscape:
As the work on Philharmagic is quickly approaching completion, it seems that work on the proposed Stitch Encounter attraction is starting to gear up. According to a few sources, work could start by the end of the year and reopen in time for Spring Break if the park is willing to close down Alien Encounter before the busy holiday season. Planning is also in full swing for a redo of Mickey’s Star Traders to allow for the second theater to dump into the gift shop in the same way that the other theater exits into the Merchant of Venus shop next door.
This sounds like great news, as it might mean the rehab is done by our next visit. I've never been on Alien Encounter, but I might do if it's got the lovable Stitch in it.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
I would like to see Alien Encounter redone with Stitch theme. As is it is very scary and quite un-Disney like compared to most other rides and attractions.

I guess it is a little un-MK but I love it the way it is!

I have never been on AE, because I don't like scary stuff But I would love to see Stich here, he's such a great character!

Re: Alien encounter rumour
That's great for WDW. What about doing one here at DL? They have been toying around with adding AE for ages and it never gets done. Tmmorowland in CA is in a pretty sorry state.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
I rode AE on my trip last week and was expecting this terrifying expirence from all the posts. My wife wouldn't even ride it cause I said it was scary. I laughed through the whole thing. I thought It's Tough to be a Bug was more scary than this attraction.
But I do agree it really doesn't have a very Disneyish theme to it.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
I agree with Ben, I think AE is not scary at all but a riotously funny satire. Kathy Nijimy, Jeffery Jones, and even Tim Curry as S.I.R. (That is, Simulated Intelligence Robotics, but you may call him Sir), all do a fantastic job portraying the characters, and the one liners are some of the best in WDW.
"Oh, shut up Skippy, you're not burned, you've just got a helathy glow!"
"Spinlock, I've been Siezed!"
"Somthing you ate, sir?"
"Profit is simply an unexpected byproduct that we've learned to live with."
"It looks like my mother-in-law!"
"My mouth was open!"
I do think the attraction is more suited to Epcot's Future World than Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, but I would much rather see the whole thing picked up and moved to Epcot and a whole new Stitch attraction built in MK than to have the original Ex-Terror-estrial Alien Encounter butchered to make way for a new cobbled-together half-n-half attraction.
Remember what happened when they 'improved' Jouney Into Imagination?

Re: Alien encounter rumour
Yeah, looks like it'll probly go down next month or early October. Other rumors confirm the Screamscape timeline too...supposedly about 10 weeks to do the whole thing.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
oh man, my brother is going to be SO mad- it's his favorite ride in all four parks. I think he's going in November so he'll miss it then, but at least we all got to go this summer.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
Both www.wdwmagic.com and www.screamscape.com are reporting a rumor that AE will close in October for the Stitch rehab, which may take as long as 10 months. Screamscape stated that the attraction may be toned down to be more kid friendly. Click here and scroll down the page to "Stitch Encounter" to read more about it.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
Thanks Michelle. This way Bob and everybody else down there this month can get it on thier list for one last show. I'm glad we did it again last year.
Not too many details around on the changes. The rumors I've seen so far say the underlying story is changing. New premise to be some kinda alien detention facility with SIR in more of alien cop role. In the pre-show, Skippy supposedly stays in the first tube, but never makes it to the second tube...Stitch appears instead. Supposedly there'll still be a very similar kind of show in the main "chamber" room (with the glass still breaking) but the intensity level (noise, storyline, etc) reduced. No details yet on the main show story line. I'd guess Stitch is in there too though.

Re: Alien encounter rumour
Well now I see screascape has almost the same details as posted by someone over at wdwmagic so that probly settles the underlying storyline (detention facility) thing. Interesting that Lance is suggesting it could turn out to be a 10 month rehab. As he suggested, I think that's probly just a typo from his source though who knows. Looking back at the wdwmagic post which predates the Screamscape info, the same 10 month "typo" was made by the original poster. The rehab length was never clarified in the discussion over there. I wonder if that was Lance's source?
As for the change, ya know, the more I think about it the more I kinda like it. I really liked AE, but this Stitch thing has potential. They'll probly have to make the dialogue even funnier to make up for loss of the scare. Which is great. The one thing it does make me realize though, is I wouldn't mind seeing something happen with the Speedway around the corner (I'm all over the place this morning).
Forget stitch, I'd like to see a real redo of the Speedway. Not a takeout cause the things so damned popular with the little guys, but just a redo with seriously enhanced theming and new (quieter) cars. It just feels so outdated and a little out of place to me these days.
That and a a truly adventurous e-ticket in adventureland. Looking at those pictures of TDS again...there's more than a few things there that'd be awfully nice over here. I'd love to see that Indy Temple in Adventureland.
