Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Our trip of a Lifetime!
Oh my gosh! I can't believe that our dream trip is only 11 days away! I thought it was about time to post our trip plans so that when we return, I can see how close we came to sticking to them! Also, if any of you are going to be there at the same time (and I know there are several of you out there!), you can check out our plans and see if there is any time that we could possibly meet up. If you find that we'll be in the same place at the same time, just e-mail me and we'll arrange to meet up. Even if there are no times when your plans and ours coincide, keep your eyes open because we will be wearing our PassPorter pins and you never know when we could bump into each other!
The Dates: Friday 10/27 to Sunday 11/5
The Cast: Joanne (Cruella, 46 yo); Tim (WildForWD, 41 yo), David (Grumpy, 14 yo); Andrew (Goofy, 10 yo) and Marilynn (Tim's mother, Maleficent, age withheld)
Resort/Hotel: Four Points Lakeside; Grand Floridian
Celebration: Tim's 41st birthday (10/5), Our 17th anniversary (10/15), David's 14th birthday (10/29) and Andrew's, mine and Marilynn's unbirthdays!
WDW Experience: Joanne's 8th trip, Tim's 7th trip, David's 3rd trip, Andrew's 2nd trip and Marilynn's 2nd trip.
Thursday, October 26th
We'll be leaving late this afternoon to drive up to Albany and check into the Comfort Inn overnight so we'll be ready for our flight tomorrow!
Friday, October 27th
Our flight leaves at 7AM and we'll arrive in Orlando at 9:55 AM. After picking up our rental car, we'll be heading to check in at the Four Points Lakeside hotel for our first two nights. After check-in, we'll head to Downtown Disney for some shopping and lunch. Then we may check out the DVC in the afternoon. After dinner at the Rainforest Cafe in DD, we'll head to Belz to see if we can get some bargains and then get to bed early!
Saturday, October 28th
Today we will sleep in a little and then head to Typhoon Lagoon for the whole day! We added two days onto the front of our vacation just to do this because it closes tomorrow for rehab. For dinner, we will be going to the MurderWatch Dinner Theatre at Baskerville's at the Grosvenor Resort in DD. Another early to bed night since we check-in at the Grand Floridian tomorrow!
Sunday, October 29th
Today is David's birthday! We will get up very early today and check-in hopefully to our dormer room with MK view!) at the Grand Floridian around 7AM. We'll then head to Mass at the Poly at 8AM and then over to the Magic Kingdom to spend the morning and the early afternoon. At 5:30 we will be celebrating David's birthday at Chef Mickey's and then we'll be attending the MNSSHP, in costume, at MK until midnight.
Monday, October 30th
We'll be spending the day in Epcot today, doing FW in the morning and WS in the afternoon and evening. We're having lunch at Teppanyaki and dinner lagoon-side (we hope!) at Rose & Crown for Illuminations.
Tuesday, October 31st
We'll be doing the Animal Kingdom today, having breakfast at Donald's Breakfastosaurus at 7:30AM and lunch at Rainforest Cafe at 12N. Then Tim and I are having dinner at Victoria & Albert's chef's table at 6PM to celebrate our anniversary, while Marilynn and the boys will eat at GF's Grill & Games. If we can still move after our meal, we'll don our costumes again and attend the Halloween Party at Pleasure Island.
Wednesday, November 1st
Today is MGM Studios day, with lunch at the Sci FI Diner at 12:20PM and dinner at Brown Derby at 5:00PM and, hopefully, reserved seating for Fantasmic! After the show we plan to boat to the Boardwalk for ice cream and mini-golf.
Thursday, November 2nd
Today we plan to rent water mice first thing in the morning. Then Andrew is going on the Pirate Cruise while Marilynn and I visit the GF Spa. Tim and David will do something together while we're all gone. Then we'll head to Epcot for the afternoon, attending the Ice Cream Social at 3PM. Dinner is at the Polynesian Luau at 5:15 and then it will be E-nite for all of us for the very first time!
Friday, November 3rd
Today we are having breakfast at Crystal Palace at 8:05 AM and then Tim, the boys and I are doing the Family Magic tour while Marilynn rests at the hotel. We don't have specific plans for the afternoon, but we'll be having dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe at 7:50PM and then heading to DD to visit DisneyQuest.
Saturday, November 4th
Today is another day at AK. This evening we'll be doing the Villains Dinner at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. Then we'll be going to the MK for the parade and fireworks.
Sunday, November 5th
We are having breakfast today at the Cape May Cafe at 8:10, but other than that, we've left our plans loose to do whatever we have missed during the rest of the week. We'll be leaving for the airport about 3:30 and then flying home.
Well, that's it! If you are thinking that we've planned this trip to death, you're probably right! But, we'll have to see if we can follow this rigorous schedule. Wish us luck and stamina!

WOW! I don't want to be nosy and tell me to shut up if I am, but what is it costing to stay at GF for all that time?

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
wondcat: Actually we got a pretty good deal with the Value Season rates. It's still more expensive than the moderates, but except for the 3 days in September, we haven't been since 1995 and wanted to treat ourselves!
If you really want to know how much, go disney.com in the vacations section and plug in our dates and Grand Floridian. They'll give you a price. We also have the Discovery Magic package, so we'll be using most of our 2 flex features a day per person for meals (that's why we have so many PS!).
Cinderbrella: Thanks for the kind thoughts! With so many things planned, I doubt if everything will go smoothly, but we'll just take it in stride and concentrate on having the best time we can!

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
Cruella,
You're "trip of a lifetime" sounds absolutely wonderful, and well thought out. Not TOO exhausting! We arrive late afternoon on the 3rd, but we do plan on heading over to MK on the 4th to catch the MSEP and the fireworks! We'll look for you there, LOL!!

Hey Cruella!!
It looks like our vacation will overlap yours!! I'm going to go back over your plans to see if we are doing anything on the same day. If so, I'd love to chat with you for a bit. You've a lot packed into your vacation like we do! Have a wonderful time. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you how jealous I am--imagine, the GF for a week!! Fantastic...

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
Sounds like the perfect trip to me! I can't wait to go back when my kids are a little older, so we can do more with them. We all had such a good time, but I felt like we missed so much. Enjoy! Can't wait to hear all about it when you return.

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
Your trip sounds AMAZING! You & Marilyn will LOVE GF's Spa. Last October, DH & I treated ourselves to a bit of pampering there, ourselves. All I can say is *WOW*. You & Wild definitely deserve this get-a-way with the family. Enjoy it!

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
dsny4me - I'm so sorry that we will miss each other! I hope you have a wonderful trip too! We'll be thinking of you!
Fortissimo - Thanks so much! We can hardly contain our excitement! I'm working on my notes section of the PassPorter so I can get that trip report out fast when we return!
Disnygirl - I know what you mean. I must have read about 150 trip reports since January when I started to plan this trip. It really helps when you are waiting patiently (?) for your day to arrive! Thanks!
Evie - The plans are a little ambitious, but I think we can make most everything. Hope we see you on the 4th in the MK. Look for our PassPorter pins and e-mail if you want to arrange a meet.
disneynut - Thanks! I can hardly believe that we are staying at the GF! We have dreamed of this for so long! And we'd love to meet you. E-mail me about possible places and times and we'll make it happen! Here's hoping we both have the 'trip of a lifetime'!

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
aurora - It's very nice when the kids can take care of themselves but you still get to have fun together! Watch for the report - it's sure to be a long one!
AllEars - Thanks so much! I just know that the Spas will feel GREAT mid-way through the trip! And we are looking forward to this time all together. I only hope that it doesn't fly by!

Re: Our trip of a Lifetime!
Cruella,
Looks wonderful!! I too am extremely jealous of the GF stay and the spa treatment!! I quickly checked our plans and it looks like we are doing some of the same things but a day later or even meals apart. I am going to double check our plans and see what I can come up with...maybe I will crash in on you and Marilyn at the spa!! I have to print out your schedule and see what I can come up with.
