As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
Hi,
I can not find a calculator to figure everything out and I have no clue where to start. This is my first trip to Disney World and I am very excited. Anyway back to the question...Could you give me a rough estimate per person
We want to fly down..We want to stay in Disney..We want to go to all the parks plus Sea World so we will have to rent a car..I ahve no idea what else to tell ya..Some of my family members that would like to go are wondering how muchit is going to be before they decide to go with or not ..So that is another reason why I would like to know
Thanks
Chrissy

Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
You might want to hook up with a Travel Agent that specializes in WDW. They have all of the info. or can find it for you.Remember, the resort rates that you see printed in guides are usually the "Rack Rates", which are the absolute highest(and no one ever pays them, anyway) There are worksheets for eveything on the PassPorter, too, and they very nicely list some actual prices at the eateries this year. Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
Get your passporter for 2002! It will be the most helpful book on Disney World. There are a few others but not as good or practical as the Passporter. I bought one and used it on my trip last November and it was awesome! Plus, on this message board you can get just about any question answered regarding WDW. There is one section for "Ask the travel agent". Click on and ask your question. 1-800-W-Disney phone line can make reservations and give you prices and send you a free video about WDW. Hope your trip is great!

Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
Well Chrissy, I'm going to try to break down our trip costs for you and see if that helps. We are also a family of 5, my children are 9, 11, and 13, so the oldest one (sometimes the oldest 2) were charged the adult rates at things.
Airfare: $660
5 x $132, this was a super cheap rate - I watched daily for specials through the internet sites and traveled on Saturdays, which is cheaper. (Traveling Mon. and/or Fri. is always more expensive).
Lodging: $985
We went in the value season, which is the cheapest time, and used a code from mousesavers.com to get about 40% off the rack rate. We stayed 5 nights at Port Orleans Riverside (a moderate) and 2 nights at the Polynesian (a deluxe).
Park Passes: $1085
We purchased 5 5-day Park Hoppers using the Disney Club rate.
Meals: $1000
$50 for the two travel days at the start and end of the trip. $150/day for the 6 days in between. This included one sit-down meal at a nice place per day and 1 counter servie meal We brought our own snacks and breakfast items. We also did some special things like the Hoop De Doo Musical Review, and the Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues. For us, this was more than enough to budget.
Transportation: $200
This included $157 which was 50% of the weekly price of a 15-passenger van which we split with the other family we traveled with. Also included $45 one-way transportation from the Airport from Tiffany Town Car. (We rented from a downtown Disney location but returned at the airport). On our day away from the parks we went to Cocoa Beach, which was fun and didn't cost us anything except for what we spent at Ron-Jon Surf Shop!
Souvenirs/Misc. Spending: $1000
This could be drastically altered up or down depending on your family. Our children earn their own money and buy most of their own souvenirs. We usually buy them some nice Disney clothing, as they don't want to spend their own money on clothes - heaven forbid! DH bought a $200 leather Mickey jacket which added a lot here. I also buy stuff I see they like for future birthdays, etc. This also included $120 for the Illuminations Crusie.
I worked hard to make the trip happen for $5000 for 5 people for 7 nights, but we did it, and felt like we did all the special and fun things we wanted. The best tips I can give you are to watch airfare like a hawk (I like Expedia and Orbitz) and watch mousesavers.com for lodging codes. Happy planning.

Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
Chrissy-
One thing you might want to do is figure out how much you can afford to spend on this vacation.
Go to www.wdwig.com The site has lots of great planning advise, prices and more. You'll need to start looking at each component and see what prices you come up with.
Our first trip we went in early October. We have 2 adults and 2 children in our family. We stayed at All Star Music for 8 nights and drove from NC. We bought 6 day park hopper plus tickets. We ate most meals at counter service but splurged on a few sitdown and character meals. Our room was about $700. Our tickets were about $1000. We spent about $100 day on food/souveniers. So our trip was less than $3000. That is just one example. -HiddenMickey

Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
Also, try the Disney site, www.disneyworld.com. Go to reservations and trip planning. On it your can plan your trip, including accomodations, tickets, airfare, rental car, etc. Then it will give you a quote. This is the MOST you can expect to pay, since you will probably be able to find discounts for all those items using discount codes, etc. and planning your trip yourself. This is the way I did it. Then I went to www.mousesavers.com and found the discounts, and ended up booking our package at a discount thru WDW Travel. I watched the internet for airfare specials, and when the right price came up, I booked it (then SW came out with friends fly free, go figure). Good luck!

Re: Wondering if you can give me a rough estimate?
You can get a discount on room rates, merchandise, and meals with the Disney club. It is $30 to join. You save about 20% off the rack rates if you travel during the value season. I think you can also use it for Disney park addmissions. Keep your eye on the internet sites like cheaptickets.com for inexpensive airfares. The cheapest way to go is to buy everything seperately. Avoid package deals at all costs!!!
