Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

We then how about this question.

Sister and I are on a flight out of JFK. Non stop to Orlando. We choose JFK because of the non stop and the time of day. 7:15 am out & 4pm back.

Well we do not want JFK if we have to leave later in the day or come back earlier. Would have taken Newark instead. Even with a stop.

1. How soon would we know of Airline changes?
2. Would the deal $$$ we got be transfered if we changed?

Thanks,

Susan

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Jean,
Thank you for this tip. We have reservations on Delta leaving at 5:00pm (out of Hartford/Springfield) on October 26. We are still planning to go to WDW but it is nice to know that if our flight time changes, we may be able to exchange our tickets for a lower fare.

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Susan: It is up to the airline per your request,to cancel and refund your money or put you on different plane altogether and not charge a penalty. Airlines are changing flights, times and fares often throughout the day. Watch very closely as the changes are now coming faster and more frequent due to layoffs and pulling flights. These are wild times in the industry right now. I wish I could be more specific but air is not my specialty, I can only give you basic info.

Airlines and Rule #240!

Many people have e-mailed me about what to do about non-refundable, non-changable airline tickets. The airlines have Rule #240 which says that if flight times change by 5 minutes, you are entitled to full refund without penalties. You can also change your flights with no penalties. Please keep this in mind and don't hesitate to tell the airlines that Rule #240 applies.

This is an option that many people will be able to take advantage of should your travel plans change. There are now so many flight changes, that many, many people will be able to benefit, if they know what their rights are.

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Thanks Jean!

You always are a big help. I called Delta last night. The rep told me that most of their cancelled flights are to Atlanta, their hub. They have so many going there it seems to be working for them.

She also told me that if they do change my flight or cancel, I can just change to another airport for no charge!

Does this apply to tickets purchased on Priceline? I'm not to happy with the time I'm getting in to Orlando. At first it was 11:55PM now it's 10 minutes later. I realize that's the chance you take when you go thru PL, but If I could request a new flight, due to this rule, that would be nice.
Thanks

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Jean - I tried calling to get our flight changed after reading this post. Our flight is now 15 minutes earlier and with all of the new security changes I thought we would take advantage of this rule and switch to the next morning to come home. I was told that I would have to pay the $50 fee to do so since the flight change was less than 1 hour and I was switching to the next morning. I'm 99% sure that there is a not a later flight that I could switch to, so why would I be penalized to come home the next morning? Can you clarify Rule 240 if I misunderstood it, or does the airline need clarification?

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Depends on the airline. Most are 5 minutes but some are 1 hour. What airline are you using?
Priceline is a little trickier. You may not get the # 240, especially if you are not flying the same day. I had Priceline tickets in Canada and they were switching me to different flights with no problem and no penalty, but I was still flying the same day and flights had been cancelled.

I just wanted you to know that Priceline just notified me that my flight has been changed, and I couldnt be happier. We now arrive at Orlando at 4:00 PM, not midnight. This is on NW Airlines, lots of flights being canceled.

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

Jean US Air changed my return flight from 9:30 pm to 9:15 pm. Does rule #240 apply here? And if it does, how do I go about getting a refund if I want one?

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

If the time changed just 15 minutes and is the same price or higher now, then don't do anything. If the price has gone down and your time has changed, then they will give you a travel voucher for the difference. This must be done through USAIR.

Re: Airlines and Rule #240!

What about a change of 50 minutes. We were scheduled on AA to leave at 8:25 am and they have changed to 9:15. I know it is only 50 minutes but we carefully chose that flight because of the time. We WOULD have gone out of LaGuardia at 6 am instead. AND I am really nervous that they will continue to change later and later...(or earlier and earlier on the flight back.) Can I ask for a flight change with no penalty cuz it doesnt seem fair that they can change their plans and we cant. (Because in actuality I would love to leave a day or two earlier but am stuck due to my own haste in grabbing a low fare!)(boo hoo)

Thanks.
