As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

So we had a managers meeting today at school. Once again, the subject of hours came up. We have three elementary schools. One manager starts at 8:00 - she sells the least amount of lunches. One Manager starts at 8:15 - she sells around the same amount that I do, sometimes just a few more. Then there is me - I start at 8:45. Back in October I believe, I sent an email to the Food Services Director and Financial Director saying that my hours should be raised to match that of the other schools because of my lunches served (the numbers were the same then as they are now). Basically I was told "no." Then in January, we had individual managers meetings with the FSD and she once again told me that my hours were not going to get changed.
So anyway, at today's meeting, I point blank said (I've said it in the past too), in front of all the other managers "I still do not understand why my numbers are pretty much the same as Memorial's (the name of one of the elemetaries) but she has 30 minutes more than me every single day. I just do not get it." The answer I received today? "I'm working with the director of Finance on that. You need to be coming in at 8:15, but we won't start it this year, it would start in September."
Yeah, right. Tell me another one. Would I love the extra two and a half hours a week that would give me? Of course I would. Do I believe it's going to happen? No, absolutely not. Why would I actually believe it? I was told 3 years ago by the new Superintendent that he was going to "equalize" all the hours for the kitchen managers. That never happened either but back then, I didn't complain. We had the old FSD and I had two completely useless coworkers so I was allowed to go in - and get paid from - 8 am every single day. Once the new FSD came in, I had to go back to working at 8:45 and since then (September of 2014) I've been trying to tell her it's not right that the other elementary managers are getting so much more time than I am.
I like my job, I like the kids, I'm getting paid well for what I do and I carry the insurance so there are good reasons for me to stay. Not to mention the coworker I have now has a good work ethic like I do and while it does annoy both of us we don't get any of our breaks, we work really well together and we get everything done in the short amount of time that we have to do it in. Most days I do go in a little bit early to get stuff done but that's my own choice and it's really only 5 or 10 minutes. There are some rare days I also end up being 5 minutes late so it all works out (we do time sheets by hand, there are no time clocks to punch in or out with). The days I HAVE to go in early are the ones that really irk me because it's never only 5 or 10 minutes, it's 30 minutes early - and I said as such as well at the meeting today.
Yeah, it would be nice but all I wanted to say to the FSD was "why in the world should I believe you? What is so different now than it was 6 months ago when I asked for more time?" I would have been wasting my breath though as the question would have either been ignored or she would have given some sort of response that wouldn't make sense (she's good at giving those).

Sounds like ypu had one crazy day bw the meeting at your mom & the car. Hope you get the hours - perhaps it's more of you are able to do more with less & the others seemingly can't. Not that it is far but probably true. Maybe u out should take your breaks & have lunches be a little late. Maybe then you will get the hours.

Going in at 8:45 to start prepping for lunch does not seem like enough time. Heck, I go into work at 8am just to prep our salad section and we have others for sandwich. It takes time to prep and get everything set up. I would have just done what the others do and go in early without saying anything.

I have two problems with that -
1) 30 to 45 minutes every single day adds up to a lot of time and even though I may not have much of a life outside of work, I do expect to get paid for that kind of time. They pay me only what I'm suppose to work unless it gets "approved."
2) If I get hurt and I'm not suppose to be there, I'd probably be SOL. I already fell once at work but because I was suppose to be there, the insurance paid for the mats I needed - and should have had - to prevent it from happening again. Luckily I didn't get hurt but any and all medical expenses would have been covered too. Early in the morning I'm getting everything ready and more often than not, that means taking 30 plus pound boxes out of the freezer. My Food Service Director was really dumb and put some on the top shelf - where they do not belong IMO - and I have had one or two slip out of my hands and crash into my shoulder so yeah, not doing that if I'm not suppose to be there.

Ummm....This could be a safety violation. When I worked in manufacturing there was a weight limit to what could be over chest level. Not sure what their rules and guidelines are but this can cause accidents and injuries. You know, like you've said. I would definitely ask someone higher up than your FS director since she obviously doesn't pay attention to that stuff.
Sorry for the rant but my mom got hurt moving stuff and ended up needing two surgeries on her back and is now looking at number three.
My guess is one of the problems may be there is no money in the budget to pay you an extra 2K a year. I hope when your FSD says it will begin in September it's because it has been included in next year's budget.
I don't know how many hours you work but if it is over a certain number (4 I think) you are entitled to a break. If you don't have time for a break (nor does your employee) you may be able to approach it that way. Your principal may also be helpful in assuring all fed regulations are abided by.
I also guess the FSD is salaried. As an adult when I have not been self employed, I have always been a salaried employee. When you are paid a salary, you work the number of hours needed to get your job done. That is seldom just 40, often more.
I thought managers were always salaried. It might make sense for someone to look into making your positions salaried, rather than hourly. That way you are all paid a similar salary and work the number of hours you need to get the job done. Maybe managers at larger schools get paid more.
In the meantime, I am sure this makes you feel unappreciated by those above you. BUt I am sure you are well appreciated by those you serve.
