As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Just so you know ahead of time, this is another thread about work for me. Some will want to read I know, others may not care but that's okay too.
For those who stayed to read and don't know, life as a school kitchen manager was very stressful for me from the day I set foot in the kitchen as such. The two people I worked with resented me, did as little as possible, and just set out to be as miserable as they could and bring me down in the process. Our old Food Service Director who let them get away with that behavior was fired back in June (for many reasons but I'm sure that didn't help). Now we have a new one with all sorts of new ideas and rules that didn't fly too well with the two people I worked with. For whatever reason, they both decided it was time to leave so back on the 5th, the full timer told me she had given her notice with the 19th being her last day. Two weeks ago yesterday, the part timer told me she had also given her notice but her last day was the 18th (so not even a two week notice). I say they conspired with each other but regardless of whether they did or didn't, the end result is the same - they are both gone.
I did have visions of running the kitchen again by myself but I have to say, despite the fact I didn't think it would happen, the new Food Services Director had the pedal to the metal for hiring two someones. For the past two days, instead of being the staff of me, myself and I, it's been me, a new full timer that I went to school with and a new part timer who was a sub last year (but the old FSD never called her in because either he or his secretary didn't like her).
The kitchen is so completely different it's almost indescribable. They actually help me and do things. I actually got a break today (old full timer and part timer took their breaks but I wasn't getting mine because work wasn't done). And not only do they help me, we talk and laugh together. I'm sure being roughly the same age helps too (both me and the full timer are 39, part timer turned 38 today - Happy Birthday to her). If this is what teamwork is, I'm liking it already.
The only really sad part about all of this is that my full timer was told before she started "you don't want to go to that school and work with Darlene" (she wouldn't tell me what else was said). Part timer was told "Darlene doesn't want you in the kitchen." I'm just thankful that neither one listened and came in anyway. If I didn't want them, would I write them welcome notes and buy them each a pretty potted plant? Would I set up the table and chairs in our store room so we can sit together to eat and talk? (The table is mine and I took it in last year so I could sit with old FT and PT but I refused to set it up this year until yesterday morning). Does that sound like a witch to you or someone who doesn't want people in her kitchen? Other than that info things have been going really, really well. I'm not coming home nearly so stressed out. What little I am is due to the new FSD not being here full time yet (she had to give her old district a 30 day notice which isn't up yet) and not being able to approach her on certain things i.e I needed next months menu last week and the stuff I got in todays order wasn't in the quantity that I did order (meaning I will now run out of things).
Other than that though, as I said, things are going really, really well. A glitch here and a glitch there is happening but that's to be expected. Even though we all know each other and have worked together on occasion, it hasn't been an everyday thing for us to have a routine down as soon as they set foot in the door. It's coming together though. Today wasn't as hectic as yesterday was and while tomorrow will be only because it's pizza day, it'll all get done because now I'm part of a team - and we're having fun and laughs in the process. I like it and hope it continues for quite a long while
