We all remember where we were and how we felt 2 years ago today.

None of us were alive Dec. 7, 1941 so that date doesn't mean to us what it did in the past. With that in mind how would you like to see future generations remember 9/11/01?

I am hoping that this generation will keep the significance of that date preserved for the future. [img]graemlins/usa.gif[/img] It is our duty to remember it in a way that it will impact generations to come. I am also hoping that there will always be some type of media commemorating it on the anniversary. Therefore, there will always be something to discuss with our future generation!

I would seriously like to see 9/11 designated as "Patriot's Day" - a day were we and future generations can reflect on the sacrifce of the men, women and children - the Patriots - who died on that day.

We can't forget what happened on that day, folks! I see this world now as returned to the pre-9/11 attitudes and it saddens me to no end.

Obviously, with or without an officially designated observance day, we do remember. Those who come after us...they will not feel the horror of what we experienced, but they will know about it, and will (hopefully!) learn from it!

I agree that we can never forget. I guess I am a little saddened that today around here anyway, it just seems like another day [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] I don't think it should be like that, and I'm trying to do my part to remember those who died (red/white/blue clothing on me and the kids and we hung a new flag on the house last night).

Well, ive been to the Pearl Harbor memorial twice(12 and 16) w/my grandfather, who was a WW2 veteran.

I found it to be a very VERY moving place. the fact that part of the arizona is visible under the water makes it all the more touching.

I would like to see something like that for the 3 places that were most affected on 9/11.

Ive also been to the OKC memorial and that was one of the most touching places I have ever seen. The chairs, the reflecting pool and the lone survivor tree.

I met a lady who's husband died in Afghanastan. She said that after about 6 months, she hated America because nobody remembered that there were people dying to protect their freedoms. That everyone had gone back to their normal, selfish, self absorbed lives, while she and her children were forever changed(like the families left behind on 9/11).

After a while though, she realized that was EXACTLY what her husband was willing to die for. So that we could all go about our normal business, and she said it made her feel a little better about his death and her and her children's loss and sacrafice..........

I think we all have a responsibility to keep memories alive, so that we can pass them down to our children and they can pass them down to their chidlren and someday when we are all 80, we will be able to tell a little 5 year old child what 9/11 was like in the same way, my grandfather told me at age 5 what Dec 7, 1941 was like

Actually, what Steve is referring to is in fact "Patriot Day". Which is how the President asked folks to observe the day (with flags at half mast)last year.

So sad and angering to see those pictures, and hear all those names again. Still draws a lot of emotion from me. I'm sure it always will.

I was listening to my fave morning show this morning after dropping DH off at work, and the hosts suggested doing a random act of kindness today in honor of both those who perished and those who served (firemen, police, etc.) as a result of the terrorist attacks on our nation. I can think of no better tribute to those men and women as well as the spirit of freedom we enjoy every day, so that's my private memorial.

The most important thing is that future generations are never allowed to forget the terrible events of that day and the huge personal loss which occurred. When you start talking about numbers, you just cannot comprehend it. I hope the media continue to focus on specific people (as they have done over here today), either those who survived or those who lost loved ones. Today in one paper, they had the story of the family who buried their son five times. While stories like that are harrowing and make extremely difficult reading, they ensure that we will never forget the enormity of what happened and all those thousands who were killed on that terrible day.
